Local trails just to try my new ratios (24/36 instead of 24/32 up front). I spent a lot of time just getting off for minor issues:

    1. Shifting up front was crap from small to big, so had to fanny about with that about 25 metres from the house.
    2. Lost a brake cable clip but had a spare, about 2km from the house (start of the trails).
    3. Branch stuck in rear mech, about 15km into ride after riding through a really boggy forest section.
    4. Rear mech cable just catching spokes (about 20 metres after the branch incident).
    5. Branch in front rotor, picked up in a massive puddle.

My faff/riding ratio was out today, but I still had a great time, and saw an old school mate who has just come back safely from Afghanistan walking his dog, so all good. 30km done all in.

local trail. the FC are improving* it just now so its a big swampy mess in parts, exposed rock in others, with off camber ruts and hidden holes almost everywhere. quite a lot of fun in other words but not really worth the effort it took to push up.

  • In my garage, with my trial bike because I have to studying and I don't have any time to go on natural zone :(

    Easter Island.

Actually just a local small lake near me in Leipzig, Germany, not many mountains round here.

New to MTB and got myself a Canyon Yellowstone, loving it all so far.

Lee Quarry. I normally do Lee and Cragg but it was a bit grim so I just put into practice around Lee some of the tips from my skills course a few weeks back. A heavy squat session in the gym last night and the Christmas excess meant the climbing was a lot harder than normal, but I got nearly a couple of hours of riding (and pushing) in.

A couple of the berms were a bit the worse for wear, and there were a couple of big rocks right on the line on one section (one of which looked like it had been put there, as it was standing on it's end in an unnatural position). I gave up when the rain got too much - I couldn't see through my clear glasses at one point, but had a good time.

Luckily the wind was blowing into the hillside on the last downhill at Lee. It would have been scary otherwise.

I did Lee and Cragg this morning. Started well but the wind made it almost impossible to get any kind of flow going.

The fog was insane. Had to ride sans googles at times.

Then across to Billinge for a quick blast. Good fun but short. Was very boggy as well. Will be a good track to session when its dryer.

TBH I'm done with natural trails until the rain f*cks off. I don't mind a bit of mud, but today was kind of ridiculous.

Today i went a ride at ordiquish, near fochabers. Ideal weather, dry trails and the roots were also dry. All in all a great time!

I reckon it has been stupidly foggy at Cragg 60% of the times I have been. I can see the wind farm from my house sometimes, but it tends to just disappear regularly.

I've never seen Billinge before (I've just googled it); it looks a bit short to be worth me driving over from Oldham for, but looks fun.

Chicsands! It was actually yesterday... but hey ho. Was a little moist under the tyres but actually very nice riding conditions. I washed out quite a bit in some of the very fast berms but that only added to the excitement. Got out on the Socom for the first time and I damn well loved it! There's a video in my sig of hitting the Pyramid Drops on her.
  • Early morning blast down the more easier going trails at Poldice, Cornwall. Been a long time since i've been on a full susser but my new Cube Hanzz was a total delight. Very rusty on the first couple of runs but hit everything i used to a few years ago so i was pretty pleased with myself for an out of shape old duffer. Decided to call it a day before i tempted fate too much.

Went up to the transmission mast near Rothes, Moray, Scotland. Started of dry and then got to a muddy section and my tyres were all over the place, a little further on a tree fell across the track but was able to go around it. The best part was getting to the mast and realizing that from now on its all downhill. 5 minutes later i was at the bottom covered in mud. Perfect!

    Sorry for the picture quality.

I had an embarrassing slow crash yesterday when letting some horse riders pass on my local trails. Over the bars at about 2km/h. My thigh is swollen but not bruised, but is hurting.

No rising then this morning, so today was spent dismantling my Trek 4500 which is soon to be on On One Scandal.

A local 11 mile blast up Tandle Hills and around some locals to scrub the new rear in, bit draggy compared to the old rear.
