But the ones who want to stay in the UK, have no reason to come here because we can't *really* offer anything you can't already find in england.
That's without taking into account the fact you can actually get a holiday for the cost of the ferry to get here (upwards of £300 for a family of 4 + car).
It's a great place to live, but I'd not want to visit.
The TT is a good draw and great world wide advertising.0 -
It's 1 week a year though, 2 at best if you include practice week.
Plus the people that come for TT don't really spend much. They travel over on the bikes, camp while they're here, eat cheaply, and drink mainly in 2-3 places. When you take into account the additional cost of plod (we have to import them from the UK) and medical staff, lost revenue from road closures, cost of maintaining the course, grandstand etc all year round, plus a good number of local businesses shut down during TT fortnight, the actual profit from TT is minimal. Even though it raises awareness of the Island, it's not necessarily the right sort of awareness. The motorsport image will put off as many people as it attracts.
Anyway, I digress.
Strikers, I love them, and they should all be taken outside and shot in front of their families.0 -
