Uh, in fact lots of people do! I do. But even for those not on fixed term, you still have a contract.sheepsteeth wrote:(and no, by not having my wages indexed against the cost of living or whatever doesnt essentially mean im getting a paycut like most ***** in the public sector like to think)

Aye, teaching isn't a profession that should be filled by well qualified and motivated individuals, it should be reduced to below minimum wage and filled by immigrants who can barely speak a word of English. The economy doens't need a decent education system, it just needs the crudcatcher.0 -
But its been said before, most private sector industry have had to make sacrifices, they have had to face pension deficits and reduction in hours...did they make a huge fuss no...the reaslised the ecomomic situation and just got on with in the keep the economy going....why can't the private sector think the same way ? so you may have to work the equivilent of 1 day a month to fund the pension...at the end of the day the tax payer has to fork the bill anyway..the country is on it's ass accept it and fecking move on as other people have to...no sympathy from me I am afraid..0

Pudseyp wrote:why can't the private sector think the same way ?
For dozens of reasons, half of us work in deplapidated buildings because the new gov cancelled the fund for new schools. We've been teaching out of the same buildings since the 60s and they can't cope much longer. The schools that got theirs are in really amazing environments now, we didn't complain then. we didn't complain when we had the pay freeze, we didn't complain when the Gov started abandoning us and made us become acadamies, I didn't complain when budget cuts forced me out of my last job (and the one before that; last in, first out for me) - and hundreds of others around the country... This isn't the first thing, it's the last straw before we turn around and say 'I'm sorry, but the education system is too important for this to keep hapening. This was the situation a few decades ago and education standards were terrible - grades have been going up despite everything but if you turn our profession into a dreg then the thing we value most in our society will be worthless'.
And I don't come here for sympathy, I like the banter But it's becoming all very serious in here. We've been working on that in recent posts :!:0 -

Money doesn't have a fixed value! Companies take it for granted that their prices will rise with inflation, same should go for wages. Tell me, you don't have one of those savings accounts that pays less interest than baserate too?
If you can afford one less hooker at the end of the week, you're being paid less. Though, to be fair there are ways round that.Uncompromising extremist0 -

I didn't know they were being paid less than British doctors (Two of the three docs I saw for a broken wrist I could barely understand a word of. The third however rode a Nomad  )0 -

If a company is struggling to make money it doesn't give a payrise, Why to try and remain open so people are employed. And we accept that in the private sector.
You are lucky to have a garenteed rise with how the public sectors money is. In fact i think the goverment is very very generous to make sure you do get something when the chances are that others will get nothing.0 -
