It’s quite satisfying working out who the CS7 KOMs are on Strava as I know we are v likely to have crossed paths before.

Using my Inspector Clouseau detective skills, I figured out two people this afternoon. One chap because he rides a Titanium single-speed and is a Norwood Paragon (easy to work out) and another because he rides without any fear pretty much regardless of the traffic conditions (and he mentioned his name was Steve!).
Oi, I have a few on CS7 too, but you already schooled me when I moved to Balham

You certainly have a goodly amount on CS7.

I'm glad our paths rarely cross, particularly as we are now running the same ratio (44/15) and I'd have no excuse for trailing in your wake.
  • I'm liking my Holux, but then I haven't used a Garmin to compare. Still, picked up a KoM this morning:

    http://app.strava.com/rides/8777941#161108459

Would have been even better if I had come along the main road, rather than turning onto it just before the segment start. At one point I was 12s down on the previous KoM.

Nice one. See, I'm fine with the iPhone app, it seems to work well. But I was concerned about a longer route tomorrow, and the battery going dead. I'd like a speedometer though as there's a certain hill I have my eye on where I need to hit the high speeds in order to reclaim SCR victory.

Wait until the iPhone app does what my Android one did; stopped recording after about 1-2 miles of my commute. Missed out on some of the best tailwinds, absolutely killed the KoMs on several sections, got to the end of my commute and the bloody thing had recorded my warm-up and nothing more.

Once was bad enough, but I spent nearly a two weeks repeatedly ripping the pedals off my bike for nothing.

I fell on my phone off my bike the other week (distracted + new to SPDs = ), it lost my ride, and wrecked my phone. I'm sure I got QOMs all the way in that morning, and the rest of the week I definitely (100% without fail) kicked ass *Cough*... Then I got a new iPhone and it just weighed me right back down again.

I've only been using Strava a few weeks really, but it's pretty cool.
Why? Because I'm guaranteed a seat all the way in.

Other Strava users keep handing me KOMs on a plate i.e. going well on a stretch of road and thinking "I'm gonna create a segment for that", creating the segment only for me to be a Timmy Topper.

Timmy Topper - I like it. I'm limited in my cycling ability, but have managed a KOM (but descending) on my local, Leckwith Hill - I think I may have a little more in the tank to improve.

My current stats show me taking 3m24 on the way up and 39 seconds on the decent

Had a good ride today, legs felt good and the weather was great!

Set a new PR and bagged KOM of Swains Lane :D Quite happy with that if i'm honest!

    Good work, Will.

I'm still really disappointed with my current performance on Swains Lane. I need to get over there when I'm feeling strong and give it some beans!

Cheers Ben! Swains is funny, sometimes you hit it and fly, but sometimes it seems alot harder than it is!

I think Strava and tail winds don't mix fairly.
Today was perfect, sunny, no wind, freshly washed bike, new tyres.
On my first segment, I'm 2 seconds off KOM on the leaderboard, so I worked harder than ever before, 1.5km on the drops, only to find that I was 11 seconds slower than my best ever.
I've only been on Strava for a couple of months, but already on many segments, if there's no tailwind it feels like there is no point trying.

I know what you mean. I alter my targets depending on how many people ride the segment and whether it is used on club rides with riders in a group (I only really ride solo or socially). Some segments I'm happy to be in the top 20%. Some I still have a chance of winning. It all depends.

It's just a bit of fun in the end though.

Like the new feature when you get told when you loose a KOM, well it's annoying as well

I just managed to get 100 miles on my iPhone battery, so bought an external battery case for £7, now I should be able to ride for around 10/12 hours on one battery :D

Strava sucks, nice idea but the segments are a mess 'round these them there parts

I, otoh, think Strava's brilliant again.

This may be because I've just this moment discovered that I'm KOM for a segment in the Park. :D

Just lost my E&C to Colliers Wood KOM by over a minute :(
I set it at 7pm on a weekday and it was beaten by someone starting on the Pearson 150 at 7am on a Sunday. Will struggle to get that back without going out at a similarly quiet time.

    I've lost my suit jacket.
I've had to use Strava to work out which nights I've been out over the last couple of weeks.
Not sure if that makes me a proper cyclist or an alcoholic.

    Sadly, no.

Maybe Strava should have an option when you receive those messages along the lines of "Would you like to send [INSERT NAME OF THE GIT WHO STOLE YOUR KOM] a message?"

I just received another batch of Uh Oh e-mails (7 of the buggers) saying that I had lost or got my KOM's tied!

Turns out Damian Sell must have used his car or motorbike and gone along my commuting route! As im pretty sure averaging 34mph over 0.3 miles @ an average of 4.2% is pretty tricky considering the person below me with a power meter had to do 501 watts to do 19.4mph!

Massive oversleep resulted in the quickest run I've had in a while. Still have to find 5 minutes to make a PB though :(

Or "Would you like to flag [INSERT NAME OF THE GIT WHO STOLE YOUR KOM]'s ride now or later?"

Fortunately I haven't received any of those messages yet but its just a matter of time. I wish I had a few KOM's on roads less travelled, but they are nearly all on commuter frenzy roads...

There was a chap on some of the SW segments who looked as though he rode a scooter. I could never figure out what the sense was in getting a garmin, riding a scooter to work, and then seeing how you did on Strava. Fecked up logic of some folks. I think somebody off here got cheesed off with the same bloke and put some comments on his segments telling him to feck off.

There are a couple I'm sure. Their speed graphs tend to look very smooth in comparison to cyclists. Cockish behaviour.

Would you use a Garmin 800 on a motorbike? I wonder if he does, and then when uploading a couple of bicycle rides to Strava it just uploaded his history without him realising? He's taken a couple of mine but the rides are back in August / September. Now flagged anyway. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the Strava thing but piling along through central London at 58mph confirms that he is a massive pr1ck.

    Quick google brought up this...

Sounds like he's suffering from a severe bout of "midlife crisis" - we should pity the poor sod! :D:D:D

I doubt that Strava would act as sufficient evidence to get him to lose his licence, shame.

Oooh Strava is finally hotting up in the Highlands - I actually caught and followed a guy up the bridge last night who uploaded to Strava yesterday evening (I thought he seemed a bit unusually keen to stay ahead - a couple of times I outmanoeuvred him but let him stay ahead - he thanked me by knocking a cardboard box in my path up the bridge  (we play tough up here  )). Mind you, it's all a bit random - I discovered I'm KoM on a segment I didn't create and there's no other times for (unless, I suppose, they are hidden). At least I have some target times to go for now with the biggest gap being only 12 seconds over about 5 minutes.

Bagged a KOM on my second day using Strava: http://www.strava.com/segments/col-d-a38-1019374

    Pretty pleased about that.

How does this thing get power outputs? Do you need a power meter or does it calculate them or what? I'm curious because the guy in second was apparently pumping out 424W and it would be interesting to know how accurate that is.
