Came back down OKR on Friday & had to stop a couple of times at lights, so although I'd been cracking along at a fair lick inbetween didn't think much of it. U/loaded to Strava and saw that I was 2 secs off my PB, which is 3rd on that segment. If I'd thought I was in with a chance, I would've riden that last few hundred meters at a more energised pace and avoided the prat in a merc who moved into the buslane and promptly stopped  Could've regained my KOM there...1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur

I've just uploaded from my Holux thingy and I've got a joint KOM. How did that happen? Unfortunately tailwind assisted. But I seem to be as fast on that as I am on the Jake, very odd.
Heres hoping Padders will leave me be for a bit.
Reckon that's safe for a while, getting a decent run either way along Cobblers is never easy, I don't lay down the power if there's anyone visible on foot and the wind is usually a mare. I'll just play the waiting game...
How are you getting on with the Holux? I've been asked to recommend a cheap GPS recording device for Strava use and at face value it looks to fit the bill nicely.Marmalade0 -
Went up Swains Lane in 2:19 on Saturday - a good 20seconds down on KOM. Maybe it will help, next time, if I eat a better breakfast and have more than half a kilometre in my legs by the time I hit the bottom.Ben

Holux is good for what it is. You have to plug it in, import into it's software then export the GPX file and upload it to Strava. Bit of a faff, but manageable. I've not tried a Garmin, but at £55 I'm happy with the Holux. Undercover Elephant got one from DealExtreme for even less.0 -
Sigh.
What's the procedure for attempting to reinstate flagged segments? do they just sit in limbo for ever more? Is it worth contacting support or is it acceptable to just recreate the segment?

I noticed one of the Bushy Park ones was flagged. As you say you have to be aware of kids, pedestrians, dogs and deer. But it's hardly like barreling down a mountainside at 50mph, it's a wide flat piece of tarmac with no cars except for te odd service vehicle.
Don't know procedure though. Email them I suppose.0 -
What are people's greatest KOM?
For me it's this one: http://app.strava.com/segments/1011718
Or for the road, good old Embankment West: http://app.strava.com/segments/1083160 but I share that, so not really sure I can claim a full KOM.0 -
The one I thought would stand for ages was Colliers Wood to Oval as I was way out in front but it's gone. My latest Merantum way having lopped off 5 seconds for only a 45 second segment is my best. Take that Mr Pedfresh and A. Dunlop!Bianchi Nirone C2C FCN40

Who is Pedfresh? He's in the SCR group but no idea if he visits the forum.0 -
I think he's on here, keeps pipping my times on strava. I seem to remember you nicking one of my KOM's by 1 second and gloating about it! I just never seem to see anyone on the road.Bianchi Nirone C2C FCN40

Just signed up to this - using my android phone. How accurate is the power calculation? I'm interested as the leader on a local small climb pushed out 310W - ave speed 11.6mph in 2m24s. My stats are 325W - ave speed 8.2mph in 3m24s.
I am an 85kg lump and reckon the leader must be a mountain goat and appreciate the power to weight ratio theory, but if reasonably accurate, I didn't realise just how significant the power to weight ratio actually is._________________________________________________

Which direction is that in? Will have a look at it a have another crack at it!

It had me down as 400w on one segment yesterday. I am 95kgs though, looked at power taps after seeing the chat on here but I am just a commuter and couldn't justify the expense/need.Bianchi Nirone C2C FCN40

I couldn't justify the expense/need of a power meter either, got other things on my wishlist which take a higher priority. It just got me thinking, half a mile climb and I get dropped by exactly a minute although pushing a slightly higher wattage. Think I need to go on a diet!
I was pleased that I beat a mate of mine although I'm sure it will be short lived. If we're cycling together he always beats me up a climb!_________________________________________________

They are not accurate at all. Pay no attention to them.
Lets say you could do 5 minutes at 325w (which if you're all out for 3 would be a big ask to do another 2), that would put you on par with a low level 4th cat rider if you go by the power charts w/kg calculation. So in this case if the bloke wasn't using a power meter either then he is indeed lighter than you.
So don't worry about the weight thing, you potentially have plenty more power to gain before you need to worry about diets.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -

Well technically everyone is, as its the entry level!
The point I make is that its not high enough for the duration to warrant a big old diet. If it was 425 for the 5 mins, then you might be onto something.
Still, the strava figures are a load of shit anyway, so not to worryBlog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -
I plugged my turbo up to the kettle the other day, filled it and had it boiling in 4 minutes 24 seconds. Can I ride the Tour now? Tea wasn't bad either, Earl Grey, splash of milk (no sugar, I'm a pro)0

Hmm..

Not that I know you, but I would imagine it is a bit high, Wouter Sybrandy who rides for Sigma and is known for being a beast with the watts did 502w for 5 mins up boxhill the other day. Which is a big number for even a pro.

More than I should. I'm toying with pulling the trigger on a powertap. Its less vain than just standing in front of a mirror going "look as those thighs, think of the power they must produce" !!0 -

Hi CJ - no idea who he is. Are you down anytime soon to have a go at it?
My effort was my first outing on a 39 inner ring, had a 28 on the back tho - I got to a stage where I ran out of gears which may have been a good thing, I'll be interested to see how I compare on my compact setup._________________________________________________

I'm happy with my 2nd place in the race for the Esher sign as we came back over the bumps on Sunday. I was no match for Jason though. I had also been on the back for the previous 80 miles and dropped totally off the back through Ockley. They slowed in traffic through Cobham which allowed me to get back on0 -
