Me neither. I don't think I've ever seen a Garmin on a pro riders bike except the Cervelo ones.Little boy to Obama: "My Dad says that you read all our emails"

Lots of riders use the 500.
But the SRM computer they use tells them everything they need know and given they don't need navigation of any kind it makes sense.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -

7 J Zed on Tank 5.8 mph 263 w 9:07
8 Chris Sketchley 5.4 mph 289 w 9:49
Can I go 3 minutes and 13 seconds quicker and beat JZed? Maybe with 50ccs....
FTFY you Sketchley
Good recovery ride down to Brighton - heart rate of 135bpm for most of it, only going higher for hills. 17.5mph average and 15 Strave achievements. May do it again in a few weeks and go flat out.0 -

I really enjoy the ride down to Brighton seems to be downhill all the way (apart from a few bumps and Ditchling) you come across much traffic on that route as may try it soon, also do you have the .gpx file ?0 -

I await JonGinge, CJCP or IP coming along and doing 4 1/2 min times (fortunately its a bit of a way to go to do)
Where's this hill you speak of? If it's more than five miles from home, it's beyond my radar.FCN 2-4.

Here's the strava link - not sure if you can get the gpx from it.

Getting faster. Although don't think I'm going to ever get anywhere near Me Irwin on the 3 hills ride from Surbiton. But it was the first ride of distance I've done averaging over 20 mph. That guy is crazy fast! Well done on 40 mile average over 20mph though!
I saw the 3 hills loop on Strava when you uploaded it, I'd definatly like to give it a go. Will take me all summer to memorise the route though!0 -

And remember that we hit quite a bit of traffic on the ride back in, given it was a Saturday. I'm glad I turned up and passed on the 2/3/4 at Spillingdon and they say there was a crash and knowing my luck I would have probably been on the deck. Even though I had a day off, the legs felt rough but luckily Gareth was feeling the same so I had him for company at the back.

Was a good ride indeed. Found it a good work out. Think I'll be using that route as my professes indicator after I've done it solo a few times. Gunna have a crack at it later I think. Good work on mileage, think I'm on 2250.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Is that riding solo, small group or large group ?
Don't suppose you have the .gpx file from your germin connect so I can use that as a course ?0 -
It was part of a group for the main part, as Ribble said if it had been early Sunday morning I think we would have been a mph or so quicker. Think there were 5 or 6 of us, and we waited at top of hills too, so potentially if we hadn't done that and had no traffic it would have been near 21/22 I think.
Route wise, I don't use connect, but if you google Kingston wheelers club routes its on our website as a bike route toaster. Think it's called 3 hills.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -

I was looking at Strava over the weekend and spotted someone with a 22mph average going up Dark Hill. How is that even possible?0

I managed 22mph up Sawyers with that tailwind, not a chance on Dark hill though. Was it definitely done on the weekend?0 -
With the right wind or in a group it would be easy enough.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

In a car, on a moped, straddling a horse or perhaps even riding a donkey
Naturally, as its over the 20mph speed limit so he is breaking the law and should be jailed for many years. I always soft peddle up it to ensure I'm below 20.0 -
22mph - not JG was it, on one of his marathon 9 lap endurance rides with a cold and after 3 months off the bike?okgo wrote:With the right wind or in a group it would be easy enough.
Not sure you'd find a group capable of riding it at that speed. There are only 10 people on Strava out of 990 who have gone 21.9mph or quicker.0 -
I think the Tuesday group would be capable, Steve obviously has done, I've no doubts Jim could do as long as you're on the right wheel. And if it was a tailwind it would make it more feasible. Very quick though, although I can't help but think it would leave you gasping only a few hundred meters into a lap!Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Doesn't make a blind bit of difference on a climb like dark hill.
Take a look at the guys who are best in the Tour of Flanders on the pro-scene, with all those short, sharp, steep hills.
They're all the big heffers.
It's about how much power you can put out over a short distance. My (lack of) weight is only really useful when it's much longer and higher.
Robert Millar made a similar (though better worded) argument on this very forum about half a year or so ago.0
