Not sure I agree with the cafe finish being the proper segment. Problem is that corner is blind and there's always a chance of peds, dog walkers etc being around to mess things up. Hence I use the 2.2k seg. It ends at the summit after all.

Vermin, that's a pretty good time for a first effort, especially in March. Looking forward to the resurfacing.
I like this. Purely by moving the goalposts I have a sub-6 min time up box hill. Huzzah! Having it.

The resurfacing and removal of the speed bumps will make a huge difference.

    There's speed bumps! Can't say I noticed....

    The route will be selective.

Box Hill is almost exactly like the Poggio in Milan San Remo, albeit less twisty.

That, after 290km is pretty selective.

You can imagine 9 goes of it will be pretty selective - especially since the laps give little time to get organised.
    Box Hill
    Average: 3.8 %
    Length: 4.38 km
    Height start: 43 m
    Height top: 213 m
    Gradient: 170 m

    Poggio
    Average: 3.7 %
    Length: 4 km
    Height start: 20 m
    Height top: 169 m
    Gradient: 149 m

Had a bit of time on my hands today so decided to see what all the Box Hill fuss was about. Found it, rode up it, was unimpressed (although the view was nice) and rode home again. 6:08 any good as a first effort? Plenty more in the tank for next time.

Been thinking about making a similar trip, not worth the effort? I suspect I'd spend much time getting lost!

It's just a quiet bit of road in the countryside; nice enough, I suppose, but not quite how I imagined the big Olympic climb to be!

    Wot GT said.

I've written to the Mods asking them to re-name you "Pondlife". Or "Git".

Ohh yes first KOM and it would have been quicker but a black cab got in my way a bit at the start and stunted my acceleration.

Suffer score of 56 on tonights commute. Equal to suffer score from Thursday night chain gang.

If I wasn't sure that number was crap before, I am now, the score from my Sunday ride was 190, so how does it even work that out? Seems nonsense! Says I spent an hour at threshold on Sunday, and another hour at tempo, not sure I trust it.

My commute was FAR more difficult than the 18 suffer score given.

Assume it works on a combination of heart rate, distance and climbing. I did seem to be running a much higher heart rate than usual. Put it down to the week off.

Wearing a hrm too which shows a bit too much effort, especially when they seem to be targeting a zone for this section with a heartrate of around 157..

    Trudat.

Also, there's a tendency as you get fitter for your MHR to go down slightly. Your heart's stroke volume goes up.

When we were in our mid 20s, a buddy I used to row with would do 2k erg tests at over 210 bpm. And he wasn't a hamster.

I don't have an HRM. I judge how hard I'm going by feel. What does "I think I'm going to puke." equate to?

Max HR - totally irrelevant stat from what I've seen, I ride with two lads, one my age (24) one 27, they both have max HR of 205 but they're no faster than I, or any of the other riders with lower HR's.

VO2 is obviously the more important stat. And obviously what mental wattage you can put out for 1 minute, that sorts the men from the boys :D

+1. Perceived effort and all that, although I do have my eyes on a Garmin 500 with HRM.

I do this. I create my own, private segments where I'm constantly KOM.
