It's obvious, that post made me look like a right sanctimonious old git. I'm just in a grumpy mood as I've been working all weekend in a freezing cowshed in the Norff. Sorry.

S'OK, t'was a good reminder and piece of advice if I had to be honest.

    I didn't think so.

I think one segment I was KOM was removed actually for safety reasons. It doesn't appear in the list anymore.

I don't consider myself very fast, but it's amazing the times some people post. Equally I sometimes surprise myself at how quick I've gone (for me).
The obvious thing to remember is it's only a bit of fun. It's not worth riding like a twunt. On the paths through Bushy Park I still slow down as I pass peds, especially dog walkers. And it's certainly not worth getting hurt for, that bloke in the states that supposedly got killed trying to regain a KOM.
I tend to only use it if I'm doing a different route to track my mileage, or if I'm out for a bit of fun. I don't use it on my standard commute.
To be fair, I don't think any of the usual suspects here take undue risks to beat Strava times. The guy who died was trying to get a KOM for a *downhill* segment. Which encourages significantly more risky riding than flat or uphill segment.

Can't blame strava for that, as sad as it is.

I think that can make sense, downhill was mentioned as it's a test of bravery/stupidity whereas uphill is more about strength/stamina. The problem is then where do you draw the line? It could develop into a similar theme to the censorship thing and everything gets banned. I don't believe the vast majority need saving from themselves, common sense should do that for us.

I've actually flagged a segment for safety reasons: someone had set one up for the section through the park and over the bridge over the Rotherhithe/Limehouse Link tunnels on CS3 - narrow, shared use with a couple of pretty blind bends and bollards plus a change of side of road. I'm not a fan of the longer CS3 segments between the Wharf and Tower Hill either as there're lots of peds, indeterminate priorities at junctions and two big junctions that are commonly RLJed.

To be fair to be KOM I was above the speed limit of the road, by about 7 mph. But it was quite late and nothing was around. I think someone got bitter about it and reported it. But on the flipside, nobody reports the Richmond Park ones even though all of them involved breaking the speed limit!

But it makes me cross that it only seems to take 1 Perfect Peter to be able to report a segment that he/she thinks is "hazardous" for it to disappear from the list or at least not count numbers anymore. Chances of us getting it back? Probably none even though it does seem there is some appeal function.

Case in point is 3 Tower Bridge Segments - North, South and South By The Water.
The Northbound segment started after the 2nd set of lights/QE St and ended 50m short of the lights with Tower Hill. It was a straight power up over the bridge and down the other side towards Tower Hill. There are barriers for most of the bridge and possibly 2 traffic islands where people might cross though visibility good enough in both cases.
The Southbound segments started after the lights/St Katherine's Way exit and stopped just past the QE St lights. OK, so it "might" encourage people to jump those lights but then people jump them anyway

For those segments, the traffic is always quite heavy and it is rare to get a clear run (only on those days you have no legs!) so why some PP thinks its any more hazardous than any other segment in Central London I really don't know

Stick by my post but then in your case, I don't think you were a PP, that sounds legitmate.

I believe you can report 'abuse' of the safety flagging to return segments to public use but yeah, who monitors/determines this is anyone's guess. Perhaps it should take more than one user to flag a segment as dangerous, and 2x or 3x the number to report 'abuse' to return it to use?

Well, I reported the flags last week and as yet, nothing has happened. Might email Elle and see what occurs...

If someone has flagged a segment unsafe you can simply recreate it.

I created this one from Friday night / sat morning night ride, quite shocked how many people have ridden it. Not sure it a very safe segment to be honest so I may delete it. Was fun though....

indeed, one of my early ones got flagged, sent a email not a response, but about a week later someone had recreated it.

Maybe, depends on the wind. When does it get dark at the moment and when do the gate shut? Off to google closing times....

    Are they not still shooting?

I will possibly be out for a few lap to bed in the Cervelo, but not if it rains.

Gates shut? Only when the deer cull is on and I thought I read that finished Thursday. May do a lap but thinking 3x Dark Hill and 3x Broomfield just for a bit of fun.

I'll be there a bit before you lot. Leaving work now. Will see about getting a few laps in though as I cried off in the rain yesterday. If you see someone on a Boardman with a blue jersey and Deuter pack on, say hello.

Went for a loop on Friday and failed on Dark Hill but it was Friday legs [/excuses] and the cull signs were gone.

Well twas quite tailwind-y tonight on the OKR. No idea how PuffTMW has an extra 4mph going over the flyover :(. And I got the not a KOM but a KOM issue over Westminster Bridge. Not too bad though.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?
