We should run a Richmond Park handicap, where everyone has to strap on weights until we all weigh the same as the heaviest person then do a lap. My guess is that JZed would win and I wouldn't come last.... Would be interesting to see if I could beat Jon Ginge up dark will if he has 7 stone strapped to his back....

Great minds. I think ours will be an interesting contest, Sketchley!

    How heavy are you jzed?

And there is a lot of technical data out there as to how much difference weight makes to speed, its a lot less than you think in terms of a few kg (so buying an expensive bike ;) ) but obviously 2+ stone is a lot of KG.

Anyone got a free promo code for it?

I remember being in the top 10 of most of the stuff around surrey hill wise for my weight, which was pleasing, but obviously makes no difference in the real world as races are not done no weight category.

Not sure if it's still valid..

Ridiculous idea. Would be slightly better if you talk combined bike and rider. But still not sufficiently in my favour to make it work.
Unless you added a puny thigh size corrector.

Happy for it to be total weight including the bike.....

Would be interesting to see how many carbon rider still trust the bike going down bloomfiled hill once they are up to 18stone....

Fine, I'll strap another 5 stone to my back but we need to amputate your legs from the knee to match our heights in the name of fairness.

Should be the other way around. The bike weight should be proportional to your body weight.
  • First time using Strava this year, the wind wasn't as helpful as the headline figures made it look. Not in as bad form as I thought I was, it seems. Still, much work to do.

And even when you think you're one of the quickest, you quickly get reminded about all the fast riders that don't use it and are much faster haha!

That would be me then. Top speed this year on carbon = 46mph. So far.

Wow - that is fast. I hit 37mph down Broomfield in the dark last night and that was quite quick enough.

Without trning it into a pissing contest, I did 49.9 (annoying I know) down Leith Hill and when I got to the bottom I thought how mental I was, the surface is terrible!!!

I don't trust the top speeds on my iPhone, quite often its random glitches.

Did manage to hit 50mph descending the Alps though, on a roadie, with two panniers and a tent on the back. Unstable isn't the word.

In hindsight I should have packed the tent.

I wimp out badly in Surrey, so many descents there have terrible surface. Mind you I'm a bit of pu$$y descending Alpine roads as well, even with lovely smooth French tarmac.

Yeah all time top was 49.9 on the way down Ditchling into Brighton a couple of years ago ... when I realised how much grit was on the surface it was all I could do to remember not to jam the anchors on at that speed.

    And annoying doesn't cover it!

I struggle think of any decent in Surrey that doesn't have a blind courner or something that makes taking it fairly easy wise. Lovely riding but no swooping decents really.

    There are a couple.

The safe decsent from Ranmore is quite nice, you DO have to slow if you are turning left at the bottom though. Or Boar Hill.

Newlands Corner is great too. That's a 50 mph one if you want it.

Yup Newlands corner is fine, Ranmore I like but it does have a farm with a fairly blind entrance and after that point the courners are blind, at least for fast riding.

95kg. It makes a big difference when there's an incline. Also At 6'4" I have a lot of air to shift. Really need to work on getting aero.

Yep I used to be that weight and it's sodding hard work. We ride with a tall guy on Tuesday's and sometimes thurs too. Has a storck. He's maybe taller than that and weighs similar. Aero must be hard haha!

Might be out tomorrow night, you game?

You'd likely be slower due to loss of power, assuming you're fairly well
