For some reason (left over trout & boiled spud for lunch maybe?) I was "in the zone" last night on the way home and absolutely caned it down OKR, resulting in a sub 6 min run including at least 25 secs lost at traffic lights! 2nd Overall on that segment now. Then Amersham Way beckoned but a slow moped at the start getting in the way and having to overtake cars meant only taking 1 sec off my time. There's more to come but I won't catch James Free/Big Mat I don't think.
  • Decided to mix it up a bit this morning and pootle around some of the track in RP, low and behold, Strava delivers more segments to get my teeth into!

No doubt my commute in is going to become increasingly strategic :D

unlocked a stack of achievements today, the best of which was finally cracking into the top half of the leaderboards for a few segments. yes, i'm that slow.

also got over 16mph+ average for the first time as well, over an 18 mile trip. think it was the tailwind angel and the lack of lights in RP rather than any significant physical improvement. oh well, onwards and upwards, right?

This helps big time. You'll notice an improvement in fitness as the evenings get lighter and you go faster in the Park.

Starting to give some of the segments in RP a shot with reasonable (for me) efforts on Ballet School Hill and Col du Ham over the last few days which should improve and the year goes on, but still need to give Broomfield a proper balls-out attempt in the dry.

Also, as a new initiate to SCR and the joy/pains of Strava it’s only right and proper than I calculate my FCN accurately. I’m a hairy legged bloke on a hub geared (Alfine 11), cx frame with egg-beaters. To my mind this puts me squarely between 4 (hairy legged roadie) and 5 (faux-single, egg-beater) on the starting points scale, is there an accepted etiquette for such a dilemma?

The short hills are hard to get, Ballet School I think is nearly out of my league with its current leader. I'll try again one day, but I don't see me getting that one.

Try some of the longer ones in the park, they're a lot more fun and less contested, hence I'm KOM for a couple of them. The one up Broomfield is safe too, there's no way I can get anywhere near that speed!

The ones on the main route round will presumably have been taken by Dynamo riders riding in a group? Little realistic prospect of beating those, unless we got an SCR posse together!

in the same way my way in to kingston is the same way KW and Dynamo's training runs go, our speeds differ somewhat! appart from the bridge but thats just grunt on my part.

They will be training rides yeh, so Dynamo, Wheelers, and probably a good handful of people that did the Richmond Park TT. But you'd be surprised actually that a majority of the park KOM are people solo I *think*

As for your route Roger, yes, its amazing how much quicker you can be as part of a group! BUT a lot of those KOM's on that route are solo too.

yeah in a car! Hampton Green segment leader is 37mph average....

looks like they went to a race then left the GPS running down the M3 max of 86mph....

  • Anyone with an HRM pay any attention to the Suffer Scores? Do you think it relates to how hard a ride was? Anyone top 275 (with 194 points in the red) that the missus did yesterday? :)

Are you using an HTC phone? There are issues with the app on certain phones apparently, and you won't see it on the available apps list if you're using one of these phones. You have to make sure you're on a later version of Android and email Strava directly for an installation file.

Seems based on TrImp, which has quite a bit of scientific basis to it, at least for rides over an hour.

Been less focused on Strava as of late. However, there's nothing stopping anyone else from quoting one of my posts, checking out the link to the segment and pulling out the weekly SCR times....

  • okgo, no, just me, the gf and another pretty rapid Pearson girl, ex-international level lightweight rower. Was quite amusing sitting just behind them on the hills and seeing the looks on some blokes' faces as they were scalped by a couple of girls :) Kate seems to save a particular dislike for Cervelos being ridden slowly and I think she racked up a record number of those yesterday.

TrImp/Suffer score is heart-rate based and is a product of how long you spent in each zone and a zone multiplier. A long ride all in Z4/Z5 will get a high score. Depends on your max HR being correct in Strava and isn't necessarily a sign of performance and seems biased to long rides. I'm sure people would find an hour of intervals harder work than a three or four hour long spin.

apparently he's a Pearson rider, but the Pearson training ride overlapped with the KW one, hence said they were on the same ride. He's quick though!
