I felt reasonably quick today considering a horrible 2 day hangover and legs that burnt the whole way a couple of KOM's but nothing strong enough to last but can easily better them myself on a fresher day by quite a bit!

Sketchley, good effort, was a headwind down the Highway home tonight. Never managed a clear run on the way home on that stretch :( A pootling Land Rover cost me a KoM on the Queens Ride section this morning too - you'd have thought such a serious off-road vehicle could manage some speed bumps at more than 5mph

Last night was my first ride in over a week whilst I got rid of my cough. It's still there a bit but I'm fed up of driving and getting unfit. So... A gentle ride home to ease myself back in? Nah! Some good speed down OKR (too many lights to stop at :( ) then hit the lights perfect for Amersham Way resulting in 6th overall, overtaking cars @ 30mph down Loampit Hill (much to their surprise) and a 3rd best on Lee High Road - which was equal to my best.

Felt good for it and to be back in the game :)

This morning and though I thought I would take it easy, equalled my best time up the OKR but there was too much traffic for the rest. Perhaps laying off for a week has done me some good!

On the scrounge here - any current premium codes that work? I've tried most of the codes on this thread to no avail...

You're systematically stealing my few remaining KOMs. This will not do.

    I only have four.

2 are downhills, one is very quiet so I'm the only rider! the other is boxhill track, thats just becuase MTBers don't tend to use strava, a fast decender (which i'm not) would be a lot faster.

then we have a steep hill in wales, again quiet so I'm the only person to have ridden it with strava, mind you not terribly surprising considering it's location and steepness.

and some one has put in a segment for climbing out of the Punchbowl on the side of the Blorange, very slippy slidely climb which I walked! so I have a KOM for pushing my bike up the hill....

Worth setting up a BRCommuter Club group on Strava? I don't want to join clubs round here as they are < Mid Devon CC.

  • Downloaded strava on my iphone after using endomondo for a month or two and it's great, had to create some new segments as my commute only had one segment. Really good idea and motivational tool although the the stats are somewhat dubious - theres always a big descrepancy between endomondo and strava when I have ran them both at the same time. Not complaining though, for free apps they are superb!

I feel for you. Only reason I went out in the sleet yesterday was to top the 500 mile mark for January. I did it for me, not for a badge ;)

Motivated to get out last night by desire to do 500+ miles in January. Ended up being just me and a 2nd cat on the club run, 28 rolling miles through the cold and occasional snow at 20mph average - the legs are feeling it a bit today!

I was seriously out of form this morning, my normal 1hr 5 mins took 1 hr 20 - I was chinstrapped the whole way in . . .

I have decided that my calorie debt is too high so have eaten:

    Boost Bar
    Cheese and Pickle Sandwich
    Chicken Chausseur
    New Spuds
    Spinach
    Jam Roly Poly
    Custard

And I'm strongly thinking about some pre-ride cake to get me home, honestly - I was proper stacking in . . . .

have I mentioned my fury at my lack of 600 mile badge - fecking FECKERS . . . .

I cycled 18 miles home, ready to attack one segment!

Get home, finish ride, KOM baby!! this could get addictive..

A small segment, thankfully well out of the way of all you fast people

I think I can have a crack at getting above 25-26mph avg with a clear run when the legs return from hibernation..

Oooh, I could pop out at lunchtime and have a crack at that. Shame I hardly ever get out for lunch.
  • How does this work then? Just download the app on Iphone and your away? Can you plot routes and things.
Sorry about the questions but I`m not reading 59 pages to find out.Thanks.

I was the same last week, like "erm ok so what now?"

You literally just turn it on, put it in your pocket, finish your ride and it'll work out your stats and what segments you crossed etc. When you sign in on the site you can have an explore and if you want add a segment to a ride you've done.
  • New bike arrived yesterday, few issues with getting pedals off old bike but hoping to be ready to roll tonight. Added new bike to strava (on website on my iPhone) and looked on the app itself - how do you set default bike so it knows which bike to log miles against? Or does it prompt you when you finish ride? Hoping to have a go at a few segments on new bike to see if it's noticeably quicker!

Nice, particularly with it being so cold. I predict there's going to be some stonking times on the segments along Millbank when it warms up a bit and the wind's in the right direction. Must defend my KoM on the one and get the KoM on the other two, particularly now Garmin 800 is ready to be installed on bike so hopefully no more missed segments

After doing the City 250m thingy was a bit energised somehow & took advantage of going over London Bridge to have a go - PRs on both segments but only 18th overall although 7th fastest time in reality - there's just too many people on that segment!

Further down the road, Amersham Way beckoned again and I just equalled my previous PR, so close... Knackered when I got home :)
