A few posts on twitter claiming it was a shooting. Not sure myself, but the road was still blocked around 9 when I arrived on me motorbike. Would hate to be in a car, so many side roads jammed up and lots of drivers getting irate.
Was that you I had a silly race down Jamaica Rd with on Tue (I think) morning btw?
If a shooting I suppose gawkers slightly more understandable. Yep, already irate motorists when I came through.0 -
Just created another Embankment section...
A308 to Blackfriars. The amount of time I think i'm going to get a great time, and then get stopped at teh first set of light, only to then have a clear run at the rest of Embankment!

Nothing too special on the way home last night, though surprisingly quick (unintentionally) on the new Evelyn St segment though wasn't trying.
This morning the road was clear (at the bottom) on Loampit Hill so thought I would have a crack at that. Paced myself a wee bit better and have to admit to getting out the saddle near the top, something I don't normally do. The only bummer was very near the end, at the end of the bike lane, the traffic was squeezing into the curb so had to display a certain amount of discretion over valour, so finally came in 2 secs under KOM.
So I know I can do it another time
Also had a good run Tower Bridge North for some reason. Lots of traffic and included slowing down to abuse another cyclist - 5 secs off the KOM although I have done better.1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur

I got caught at both the Northumberland Ave lights then the ped lights just after this morning - totally scuppered any chance of a challenger time on this segment"Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

Turns out i'm rubbish! Best result was somewhere in the 60s! Might stick to SCR. It's nice to see their face as you drift past exerting no effort at all.0 -

Time and Knowing the place makes a big differance which is why I'm high for Kingston/Richmound bridges ability helps, but needs to be somewhere you know and use fairly often.
I know the embankment but not well, so I'm more cautious watching buses etc.0 -

That's right. It's the traffic that makes me rubbish. To be fair with a clear run I wouldn't match your speed, but with the traffic on my rush hour commutes there is no chance. It's quicker and easier to bimble across Kingston Bridge on the cycle path dodging podestrians, skate boarders and the generally clueless.0 -

Use embankment twice a day for commute - no excuses :-(
Will have to keep an eye on where segments begin and end. Cracking a time is also not as enticing as tracking someone down ahead of you. Might focus on some targets, starting with Putney Hill i reckon.0 -

I reckon fixed is suited to SCR, gears for Strava. At least that's my excuse as I prep the new steel commuter this weekend and no doubt find my Strava times go out the window.0 -

my roadie is slower for most part, I'm sure it's faster up crocknorth etc.
But other than that my SS is faster as it's a small racer set up, even up boxhill I apear to mostly be faster on the SS with paniers! since the bike is egging me on, while the old roadie is rather more chilled bike.0 -

Had a go at puff's new Lee High Road segment but got held up by traffic, which was annoying as I'd saved a bit on the Brookmill sprint this time. Also weighed down by laptop in the rucksack and a severe case of man flu (minor cold), so nothing special this morning. Had a fairly clear run at Evelyn Street lights to Macdonalds, but just couldn't get going. An earlier crack at the Lee Road climb was sabotaged by the temporary lights again.0

Rubbish ride this morning. The police had blocked Ladywell Rd for some reason, which meant traffic was appalling from Catford on up. It didn't improve much after that, either. The one shining light was a green light for the Jamaica Rd sprint and no hold-ups - I absolutely hammered it through there, pacing a couple of Tall Roadies™ (who then proceeded to rinse me up Tooley St - ah well). It was certainly a PB, possibly KOM. Got to the office, checked my ride like an excited child on Christmas morning - only to find Strava hadn't logged it
What was that nonsense about bike commuting relieving stress?0 -
Thought I'd have a KOM/PR filled ride home last night but traffic and lights put paid to any hopes I had of a Southbound rinse out. Worst was holding a steady 28/29mph for the Balham to Bec segment before having to slow right down for lights and a bloody big bus... Ah well, have to see how tonight's sidewind works out.Ribble Audax - FCN 5

Ugh - just had a look at the map of my ride, for the whole Jamaica Rd sprint section it has me some 15-20 metres off to the left of the road. Chuffing iphone GPS! If I wanted a tour of the exciting new Bermondsey Spa development, I'd contact the Sales & Marketing suite, thank you very much.
This has really ruined my morning.0 -
Tonking along this morning, looking to slay a segment I've not had a proper go at this morning. It's about three miles long and flat, the KOM has an average speed of just north of 28 mph, conditions were good this morning, so I thought I'd give it a go.
I was going quite nicely, probably likely to slot into second place (the KOM was set in a gale force tailwind, I think), but I was at least going to trouble the leader. Rounded a corner about halfway and there's a temporary traffic light on red in front of me... Gah!!!

Why don't you recreate the segment and see what time you "would" have done if it had all been on track? I did that for Tower Bridge South (by the water) and it would have moved me up. I also found that I had done it 7 times before!1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur

Had a pf visit last night, traffic was pants in Lewisham/Loampit. Had a bit of a go at Sandford St but not enough to beat my PB or get KOM then looked to save myself for Jamaica Road. Good start, run on the lights then up ahead they changed to red - bah! Still ran a 21mph average though. Tower Bridge was once again too full of traffic and why oh why they allow Group 4 to park a security collection van ON the bridge I don't know. Still managed a 21.2. One day I will get a clear run!
I now get all sorts of strange things like Power/Cadence/Heart Rate on my traces - going to have to work out how best to use that to my advantage...1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur
