  • Definitely found half term = much faster commute today. Had a great ride, took a lot of good scalps, which is unusual as not many seem to do my route.

Hoping for a few PBs this week.

Just got me brookmill reverse KOM this morning had a slow start after getting stuck behind a bus but once it pulled in after a 1/3 of the way managed to have a decent ol sprint to early 30's and then I started to flagged and ended up dropping down to 23/24 so still a little more time to come. Its nice to have a segment I can take in without a massive detour though have to choose between that and Loampit Vale
  • No luck this morning with lights, a few segments started off well only to be scuppered by lights or traffic. My Brookmill attempt this morning was ruined by an old boy in a Peugeot 406 v e r y s l o w l y turning right down Elverston Rd and holding up the van in front of me - I took the sensible option and just waited rather than rinsing up the inside, so looks like Strava hasn't got me risking my neck for a fast time just yet.

Cassette nut thingy came loose twice this morning, one right at the start of the ride, and one halfway over London bridge (on what would definitely have been a PB for me). Only seems to happen when I'm putting AWESOME™ power down in the bottom cog so I think I should probably refrain from doing that until I've sorted out the issue - got a bit of time off either side of the weekend so should be able to do some fettling then. It'd be nice not to have to ride around with spanner and cassette tool in my bag.

Lovely ride home last night, relatively clear roads for the time of day and a nice tailwind. Managed 2nd overall on Chelsea Dragstrip. Though as I'm not convinced JZed is actually human, I'm secretly taking KOM for this segment.

Extremely disrupted journey in this morning, 8 minutes waiting time - 8 minutes!

Anyway, managed a KOM on Sunray Avenue which didn't even feel that fast, clearly scope to shave a few more seconds off there. Felt I had done enough to take the London Bridge northbound honours but again, GPS went mad and had me practically in the river so didn't register (I think it doesn't like starting from under the railway bridge).

    Nice to be a target!

Bike is back in the office, all shiney & clean, serviced, lighter, so back in the game this evening. Obviously got people gunning for some of my KOMs, maybe time to concentrate on Segment bashing not overall ride...

Absolutely spot on, downhill segments are asking for trouble, I don't even like segments passing through traffic lights. Ultimately though, its the individual's responsibility to ride safely - for themselves and for others.* Stick to that rule and we shouldn't go too far wrong.

    * I thought of that one whilst hurtling along the A40 flyover last night - not a good place to be on a bike, not good at all....

Worth noting having read these articles that if you go to a segment home page then hit flag, you get option for Hazardous Segment. Perhaps we should be responsible and flag downhill or other segments that are too silly to race on.

I agree with this. But we also have to take responsibility for our own safety. I'm sure the vast majority of us do this already. We can't blame a website for forcing us to ride dangerously. I'm never going to break any records on the Broomfield descent, I'm allergic to falling off.

Hmm - thought I could get close to puff's time (6 secs ahead of me), but you've gone and beaten that by another 9!

Had a go at the normal Brookmill sprint this morning, but got held up by traffic. Don't normally go that way, will try and put a segment together for Lee Green Junction to somewhere on Blackheath.

Brilliant, for reasons I can't fathom I don't appear on todays official Millbank Sprint (N-bound) segment!?? :(

I have however been picked up on a secondary segment named "Millbank: VB Lights to LB" which has been ridden 83 times by 24 people as opposed to the "official" segments1629 times by 106 people.

    GGRRRRRRR! B*gger!

Going to give the normal Brookmill sprint a go on the way home but on the SS and not very aero so doubt I will beat my best time

KevEss, I had that the other night, missed out on posting a tasty time on the southbound route. Think if your GPS is slightly out it misses either the start or the end. Was crossing my fingers hoping my northbound run had been recorded today, although I did have to put on the anchors at the end of the run due to peds crossing at the zebra which probably cost me the two seconds I needed.

Got joint second with puff on the Brookmill reverse, but jamesfree is a massive 9 seconds ahead! Don't think I can catch that, will have to come up with some sneaky segments that jamesfree doesn't find out about...

I finally got picked up on reverse Brookmill and picked up a surprising 6th - I was giving it reasonable effort but not going very quickly because of the wind. The speed sensor halfway through had me going 21mph, Strava reckons my average was around 20.25 mph so seems reasonably accurate as I usually hit the start of Brookmill at a reasonable lick to try and get through the rubbish potholey section ahead of the traffic.

Anyhoo, I reckon I can shave a fair few seconds off, especially with a tailwind, but I'm reasonable sure 1:30 is way out of reach, unless I invest in a decent road bike and lose about 3 stone perhaps... (both of which I would like to do  )

Be warned fellas: the missus has just signed up for this, and on her very first evening despite taking the commute easy not to knacker herself out for her first outing with Pearson has collected a few QoMs, including a rather tasty 1:09 for Millbank South (despite the fierce headwind down there tonight), placing her ahead of a few of the men on here (cough, Ron, cough) :)

That Millbank South segment is getting on my wick. Take Monday's run through it. Strava has me down for a 1 min 30 second time. Looking back at the trace, I actually get to VB between 1 min and 1:10 then wait for the lights at 1:30, at which point the segment ends :?: Average is screwed.

Anyhoo, back on the bike tomorrow so will put a bit of effort in to keep Andre honest. Next SCRIT session is tomorrow so should be good for some nice bursts.

Few beers and a pasty then a nice 18.6 ave ride from Look Mum No Hands to Balham. Set an early sighter for this week's Blackfriars > Westminster Bridge but nothing too spectacular. Still, it'll do following the dinner.

Faster than my millbank south, but then I don't get along the embankment often & when I have the wind has been going the other way. Saw the weather forecast this evening was contrary to normal & was tempted.

I had suspicions on this point as if there is traffic at the VB end it can really screw up a time, along with the fact that you often get blocked heading towards the front. At least heading in the opposite direction traffic is generally moving and bike can nip up the LHS.

I know this could be a PITA but it is worth creating a new segment so it finishes 5-10m back from the stop line? Not sure about anyone else but my s-bound PB is about 15 seconds off my n-bound and I don't think I can put that all down to the Wall of Wind!

CS7, you may need to up your game, I'm expecting some top spots this morning (well, within the SCR group at least)

Left 5mins late so took the short route in. Couldn't really be arsed. That changed the moment I got going :D

Weather lovely. Cold but not too cold. Traffic light.
Scooter duly drafted at 28 and then passed at 30. Twice. Reached Blackfriars and a gent in a truck pulled up along side and told me I'd kept up with him all the way from Clapham and was entertained by the scooter scalpage 8) 8)
Gotta be a 20+ moving ave. Will find out when I get home. Still grinning.

The Millbank South sprint is a funny section, its only really worth having a proper go at if you can hit the lights. And at that junction its a pretty narrow window to aim for. I managed to get a fairly good time on that section without actually hitting a particularly high top speed just because I was lucky to hit a green at the end. No point in hitting the back at the queue at 28mph...

The original Millbank Sprint (Southbound) is rubbish. I've had good times disappear as theres a bus sat over the finish line at the lights.

Someone has created a Millbank south which stops 10-20 metres back. Much better.

Back up to 2nd on Brookmill Road this morning but still a few seconds off young Jimmy Free. Grabbed 4th on the Evelyn St/Maccas as well but didn't realise it started so far back before the pedestrian crossing, will take that into account next time.
Flying start on the Jamaica Road sprint spoiled by iights going red & Tower Bridge too full of traffic :(

In other news, KOM'd the Col du Molesworth last night but that is a tricky bit of road with the amount of traffic & I had to back off at the end when a bus moved out and blocked the gap...
