Just signed up (yes, yes, late to the party). Managed a 4th place along Great Suffolk Street, but way off the pace everywhere else. Not too disappointed given I haven't actually ridden a bike since the end of September.

I see Big Matt has the record for a particular section of the Old Kent Road. I'm guessing that speed was achieved coming down from the flyover, though, yeah?

Yeah, probably - think it only made a second or two difference though, was a collateral benefit to going for the flyover KOM - never really focused on that segment!

There's a flyover KOM? Awesome. I need to investigate these things further. And continue my rehabilitation. :D

I'm finding Strava runs my iPhone battery flat in a couple of hours, so I miss the later stages of longer rides. Has anyone experimented with using an add-on juice pack (like the Veho Pebble range) to extend range? How has it worked out if so - how much range do you get?

I turn off the 3G signal to eek out more battery life.

When I used my iPhone I could get around 6 hours tops out of it. I bought a battery case which meant I then had around 10/12 hours. In the end I just bought a Garmin though.

    This was the case I used: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1900mAh-PORTA ... 697&_uhb=1

    Thanks for the tip.

Yesterday I did a 60 mile ride and since I took a backpack along to hold enough supplies, I took my iPad too and used this to record the ride in Strava. The ride took 3hr40m and despite the fact I was running a Bluetooth heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor, the battery level dropped just 2% during the ride. Obviously the additional weight isn't ideal, but perhaps the iPad mini might rival a garmin for recording longer rides?

    NICE!
  • I've pretty much given up on ever claiming a KOM, unless I make a segment down my road where only the kids ride.

Got a nice trophy haul yesterday though...

Good pace that Pete. I really need to get down there again and have a real go at a good time!

Completed the Feb 15 challenge and now moving onto the Train like Taylor challenge, hope to complete that too...

Just uploaded the mornings ride from my Garmin and Strava made a duplicate of the ride. So says I rode 3 hours this morning. No big issue as I just deleted one of the rides. However now it's not recognised in the Train Like Taylor challenge, so i'm 1hr 45min down. Dam it

Can you not delete both of the rides on the computer and strava but upload it from your Garmin?

Didn't think of that, thanks. I emailed Strava and they sorted the problem out :)

Strava is still uploaded every ride twice though, quite odd.

Strava won't grab rides automatically from my garmin anymore, regardless of which machine I try on. :(
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

It takes longer the more rides are stored on your garmin. I suppose you have tried deleting some of the older ride data.

Yep, doesn't ever complete the "finding activities" screen, even if the device is empty.

  • yeah i have the same problem, after awhile i just cut and paste the activities onto a folder on my computer, so it frees up space and allows stat sites to upload quicker
Sorry its not me it's the bike ;o)

I just use the 'Upload a file on your computer' option and navigate to the Activities folder in the Garmin. Much quicker than the 'Upload from Garmin device' option.

Strava only notified me of 2, but looking at my KOMs list I noticed that there was a third from the same ride. I guess Strava couldn't believe quite how awesome I was. Probably.

Sometimes you don't get a KOM if you only match the current/first KOM's time.

Ah, yes, it's a hidden segment. But what is a hidden segment?
