Picked up the KOM for Sherwood Pines Red Route (MTB) at 35:56 which I was happy with! Then went out today to regain a local MTB climb, set what I thought was a good pace, only to find Strava says I didn't ride it! Not happy!

Even more annoying that I then created a copy of the climb, made it private and I had taken a minute out of my time!

Anybody else having issues with being picked up on segments?

If you're off road tree cover can cause problems.

I did a slow club run yesterday and accidentally stopped the track (tw@t I know) at the cafe stop any easy way to combine the two tracks that will work on a mac, I know one program but it's windows and therefore useless to me

Nice blast along Molesworth Sprint / Dual Drag this morning. Not sure how fast, but felt good topping out somewhere north of 61kph. Funny segment(s) though, have often felt good only to be disappointed, a lot depends on how clean the entry is and which way the wind blowing - headwind this morning (getting my excuses in place early!)

So I missed it by a second, had another crack this morning though - managed to hold a higher speed into the left / right chicane at the start, legs felt heavy and had to slow for traffic before the roundabout, but maybe...

In other news, KOM on Yorks Hill at the weekend was a very nice surprise. Turns out the official hill climb is a lot shorter than I thought, my KOM was for the full length from the turning. A fair bit down on the hill climb segment but to be expected as I was pacing myself for a longer effort.

If anyone is out in Surrey and fancies testing themselves, then this segment that we had a TT on yesterday is a real lung buster - the catch was that the last 900 yards were up a fairly steep little hill, and the time was taken for just that bit to create a hill-climb within the TT, was blowing hard at the end!!

Back on the old commute so thought I'd take a look at the segments on the way...
Who the feck is Mark Moorhouse? http://app.strava.com/athletes/144586
2 rides in July and he claimed 14 KOMs all around SE. I am suspicious but actually the rides look legit.

Only >40mph bit is on a downhill. Reaches the top of a climb and stops for a few minutes.
Dammit, he might just be rapid

I've combined 2 before by just copying and pasting in Notepad (or whatever your equivalent is). You have to look carefully at the text to work out what needs deleting (the 'end of ride' stuff from track one and 'beginning of ride' stuff from track 2) and exactly where to paste, but it worked.

StravaViewer has changed to VeloViewer, looks promising.

Good way to keep tabs on all your segments (any you have ridden) if you haven't heard of it.

Nope don't like the new avatar

  • Pah, had a crack at a new segment last night. Thought it went on longer than it did so could have gone faster to the line. Came second, by a second.

    Pah!

Had quite a few uh-oh Emails recently, leaving the KOM cupboard bare, so it was nice to reclaim one yesterday morning. It's downhill, I had a tailwind and there was no traffic, but hey still a KOM!

Pootling home along the gravel path in Bushy Park there's a slight curve with a fence along the side so visibility is limited. I move out a little to go round a pot hole and there is some bloke on an MTB coming towards me in the middle of the path, stood up giving it everything, obviously trying way too hard. I move to my left to leave him plenty of room, he moves the same direction, locks up and narrowly avoids me as I swerve back towards the middle of the path.
Anyway, look at this segment on Strava just now and see someone set a time and managed to get into 14th spot yesterday. I'm still 3rd, so if that was you you're rubbish and still slower than me.

Top 10 now on quite a few local Hill segments now. Myself and a faster friend attack them often. Competition between myself, friend and Landlord. Landlord has a bad hammy and has been ill so we have been putting time into him which he is none too pleased about.

The other half is getting chewy as she holds pretty much all the QOM round our area. Not many women ride them but still they are hers.

One got taken from her by the Wife of the person who is Top by some margin around our area and an exceptional rider. His wife however is miles behind on every segment by some margin yet her time is 10 seconds off her Husbands and faster than the local very fit Triathletes... Hmmmm doesnt sound right. As a result it is all I hear about

Lot of people getting into it at work including some big mouths who are miles down the leaderboard.

Took another 3 seconds off my Sherwood Pines Kitchner trail on Monday, with this weather it'll be drying out well, so certainly hitting it hard at the weekend for some early blasts! 8)

Never been to Sherwood Pines, might give it a try soon as it's not too far.
Love the imaginative segment name "Muddy when wet" :?

It's good fun! Fast and flowing trails, nothing technical, but good fun all the same!
  • I would like to apologise to anyone who lives near the coast road between Musselburgh Racecourse and Prestonpans. I realise that hearing a sonic boom around tea-time may cause some distress and loss of appetite.

I know we all want to be top of the pile when it comes to segments but if I'm in the top ten or on the first page if there are a lot of riders then I'm happy. Bearing in mind that most of my riding is done on a SS whereas I'm assuming the others are on geared bikes so have a slight advantage with the bits that go up.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Also KOM for the blue route around the forest. :)

You do realise what a fool that made Oscar look when he complained about the Brazilians blade length giving him an unfair advantage?

    Same thing.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Typical, I nearly ripped my tripes out today trying to beat a PR :!:

    Edit, Apparently....
"Web hosting company GoDaddy experienced a period of company-wide outages on Monday morning, taking down a slew of Web sites that rely on the company for hosting services. GoDaddy acknowledged its problems from its Twitter account, stating that employees were working to fix the problem, but did not offer any insight as to the source of the crash. At the same time, a person claiming to be a member of the sprawling hacker collective Anonymous is claiming responsibility for the takedown."
  • I know - second fastest ride in of all time today - wanted to see my segment times. My uphill ride home wasn't too shabby either. PITA - amazing how it's completely disappeared - more like a DNS fault than a server fault.

ETA - I'm amazed that a hacker can so effectively wipe out sites

  • At least it's back up and running - New KOM, a new 4th fastest, and 1s off my own PB/KOM on another segment

gah, wish it had stayed off line! Set a few PRs, did quite well yesterday I thought. Then someone comes along on the same day and rubs my face in the dirt (see "Up Higham Lane" & "hermit Lane").

  • New PR in Richmond Park this morning - 16:46 for an ACW lap. Chuffed with that given it was pretty chilly and traffic slowed me badly on the dark hill roundabout.
