  • Only thing I'm not sure of is the fork, it ramps through travel fairly fast occasionally

have you ajusted the fork correctly? i know fox forks have issues here and there but havnt heard of that one myself, very strange, does it bottom out quite a lot???

im in london so if i did get canyon it just down the road :)

Atm im torn between the XC7 and the AL 8 hardtail, just cant decide whether a FS is overkill, compared to the insane spec of the AL 8 with SID forks and X1700 DT wheels+RX formula brakes...decisions decisions......

Yeah fork is set properly with the correct spring... A few people have had the same issue.

lol, the thing is the more i look into it the more i feel i must stay true to the hardtail, it just seems like a good hardtail with good wheels+forks can handle pretty much most of what a FS can do, and im young and my back isnt broken just yet so why not :P

question is though if i go hardtail which one....still looking at canyon AL8 but so many to choose it crazy.

On topic though have you thought about Boxer forks? or even revelation as they got a good review in MTB recently from what i recall.

gl with that, cant you try to fix it yourself if it isnt too major?

If not i guess you could ask a LBS to fix it for you then charge canyon the price of doing the work :D

They'll probably offer a sum of money to pay for the LBS to sort them out.

Its literally every spoke nipple has come loose, I think some have popped back into the rim!

I can't build wheels and think the rear is a bit taco'd so will be 2 wheel builds :(

Sent Cullen and email with a vid showing the loose nipples and a pic of how bad the taco is!!!
  • hope it gets fixed,
just hope he doesnt see your crash on the net,he soon relise why they broke

Regardless ofany extenuating circumstances I'd expect wheels to stay true for longer than a few months of 'standard' use for a FR bike. My rims are still going strong and true (unlucky Ben  ) and have had the same use.

May be the difference between pre-stressed and not from factory but I'd be going straight back to the 'shop' and expecting a resolution. My rear axle started coming loose continuously a few weeks ago. Went back to the shop (not a shop in Bens case of course) and with no questions asked it was fixed/replaced/sorted under warrenty. Same scenario here as I see.

Shall I stop waffling now

Nice bike, big travel AM bikes are awesome around S.Wales, plenty of Dh tracks around that you can pedal up and around to the top of, i ride my Reign X on weekends around Machen, Risca etc DH tracks-Brilliant, best money i ever spent

Just wanted to say on your forks, don't give up on them, tuning them is tricky but they are damn good forks. they cant ramp through the travel too quickly with the right spring, the compression rate of any spring is linear, although you can change the pre-load to harden the initial fork reaction and change the compression damping to alter their characteristics somewhat.
next time you do an uplift try and find some-one who knows how to set em up to have a quick look, trust me you may think you have them set right, but its a black art, one i have not figured out. my friend took my forks off me for a while into mojo, they came back way better even though i thought i had them perfect

Your wheels, sounds to me like they (bike shop) didn't bother bedding them in fully, although to be honest it is very normal for new wheels spokes to come a bit loose when you hammer it DH, i think there is only so much a shop can do to bed in the wheels without riding the bike. When i build a wheel i find it comes loose on first few rides, then once tightened it stays pretty good.

Looks like a nice do it all bike, sure you will custom it a bit more over time, i hate people dissing my bike when it is new, its hard to swallow lol
Dont look at it-ride it! they are tools not f*cking ornaments

    Cheers Bud!

I have got used to the fork and got it feeling better on the trail, however I'm used to air forks that have a less linear feel to them... they never feel like they're going through the travel.

Wheels wise, i'm just not used to factory wheels... my Merlin set didn't need adjusting for 2 years! And they got a hammering!
  • Good news :D

Canyon are willing to take the bike back, check the wheels, rebuild and redish them :D:D

Can't say fairer than that now can you!

Just gotta find a bloody box now

Take the whole bike back? How long will you be without it for?

Good news could have been worse. I guess the bike is useless with the wheels anyway and the only extra inconvinience is as you say finding a box big enough. Good result though.

You trying to say i'm not a pro downhill biker?!

Just explained the issue, kind, polite and all that.... wasn't expecting anything to be honest, but you don't get if you don't ask... absolutely brilliant service!

The chap at the UK office for Canyon, Cullen, has been superb so far!
  • Bike is with Canyon now... hopefully going to have a few presents for it when its back lol!

Did have my eyes on a set of DC forks, but they sold out :(

Tis going single ring up front for now instead, turning it into a more dedicated DH machine (I know I said I wanted dual ring, but to be honest I just want it for DH now).

So thinking one of these with gold back and orange guides.... but I'm not sure. Black might be best.

I want a new crankset too... but its wether I can afford what I want haha!

as much as i love saints, slx are lighter and i doubt you would notice any difference tbh
  • Hmm thats true... I've never been a fan of the look of SLX though :(
