Cheers
Hopefully it'll do the job, don't get to ride it till Monday
1 big problem though, the bars are wider than the hallway from the front door, up the stairs and down the corridor to my flat... I'l going to have to widen the hallway!0 -

Cheers all!
Will be setting it up properly tonight and then off for a 1st DH run at Cwmcarn tomorrow evening.
I think the rear shock is going to be a mission to get dialled, so may different settings on the thing!0 -

I've just enlisted Kath to cut some heli-tape for me, I can't cut in a straight line lol!
Bike is covered now!0 -
lovely looking machine!0
-
Tis set up now, far too many things to adjust on the rear shock though (god knows what the higer end version is like) so I'll probably be playing for hours once on the trails!0
-
Well... she flies...
Learnt a few things...
1) bed in the brakes before hitting any DH... no matter how excited you are
2) Fox forks are stupid! turn the knob to the -ve to increase rebound? hmm.
3) DH'ers are fitter than 1st thought, pushing up is a biatch0 -
Nice ride, yup Cwm is a long way up lol, its why i do fod 15 min up lol and 35 min away0
-
Cheers mate.
Yeah I need to have a crack at FOD DH. Cwmcarn is a bit closer for me though so I might make the trip once i'm happy with the setup lol!0 -
Now that is lovely, I was really tempted to get one of these and still am, may have to wait until next year though.0

Very nice! I'd really like one of these, they're ridiculously cheap.
I thought you had given up on the hardcore riding?0 -

Me? never :P
Just didn't have the correct bike for the job, always had a bit of a compromise.
Now I have the Boardman for xc/trail duties and the Canyon for DH and trails that are a bit more fun.
The Canyon actually pedals and climbs really really well, its has less pedal bob than the Meta did if you keep your arse on the saddle! Heavier though!
I reckon an SLX double chainset would loose a good few lbs and the tyres are beasts but I like em lol.0 -
On a bike like that, you might as well go 1x9 with a chain guide, no point having a double on there if you have the boardman, IMO. My patriot pedals up fairly well for a bike of it's size on a 36t single ring anyway, if you stick a 34t ring on that and a chain guide, i doubt you'd have any issues pedalling up, not that you'd need to anyway?!
But yeah, get rid of the truvativ chainset, they're shite... An SLX double chainset should hold up to downhill abuse fairly well, the only thing that's stopping me buying one for my patriot is money...0 -
shite is a strong word, its actually doing the job very well.... very stiff. just the weight is the down side!
nah, i need the granny. makes no difference when riding down, but a massive difference when riding up!0 -
Ok, maybe not shite, but totally pointless in terms of weight, reliability and price when you can get something like SLX.
And you actually pedal that thing up?? Why?0 -

Not really though... It does the job that its supposed to do and keeps the price down.
And yes, why wouldn't I pedal it up?0 -
Well I just don't see the point in having a gravity bike and an XC bike and compromising the spec of the gravity bike so that you can pedal it up hills... But I guess that's just me.
And my mistake, i thought they were holzfeller cranks on there.0 -
2) Fox forks are stupid! turn the knob to the -ve to increase rebound? hmm.
How so? Given the dial is rebound damping, doesn't -ve mean less damping, ie more rebound?
Do you prefer a small picture of a rabbit and a tortoise? :P0 -

Yup.. hehe.
I just saw it as a rebound knob.. -ve should be less rebound, not less damping! Otherwise it should be called the damping knob not the rebound knob imo obviously. But it serves me right for not reading the manual0 -

How is it compromising the spec? all thats added is a front mech and shifter!
I really don't know what you're trying to get at tbh... there isn't always an uplift and pedalling for 40mins is much easier than pushing.
And some sections of trails will be more fun on a big rig than a short travel hardtail (final decent of Whinlatter North and South come to mind) so if i'm willing to pedal to get up there I don't see the issue!0 -
Fair enough, it's just that I wouldn't personally put a granny ring on my orange (similar sort of rig to yours) because regardless of the gearing, it's still going to be an absolute pig to ride up.
And compromising because it just makes thing unnecessarily complicated, IMO.
Sorry, I'm not slagging your bike off, I've just never seen the point in having a dual chainset on a 180mm big-hitting bike. The Northern Monkey wrote:

hehe I know its opinion fella, sorry always a bit pissy when I get back from work haha.
Might hold out for some Saint cranks just because
Are you trying to confuse me btw?0
