It's not that I'm over over biked, my bike is under personed...

  • :D glad I got it on camera though hehe.

Completely wrong line round the corner, bard to wide to turn in so tight!
  • Easy done I'm surprised I've never stacked it there myself, I fancy trying that line past the last two switch backs, can't remember how steep it is. that'll cut some time off the run though (not like I'm worth timing of course)

Nice vids you got there, looks amazing. Hopefully taking the 456 on an uplift day there with the cousin some time just before christmas when we're back from uni properly. Can't wait.

At least I know which way to go next time... I've never done that run before and should have walked it 1st really!!

Yeah its top notch, took the bike to Sunset Bikes to get the brakes bled today... had all the staff stood around it having a ponder and giving it some nice comments :D

Seen some Renthal Fat Bars in there too and they look spot on. I need a bit more rise and the 38mm rise ones should be perfect.

Ahhh riding downhill tracks blind is fine, adds to the fun

Yeah I guess you don't see too many of them around at the moment.
I've just got my patriot at a point where i'm fairly happy with it now (aside from the shock), I just like buying new things!

  • The Patriot looks like a beast!

Got the bike back from Sunset.. brakes are sorted!

Got hold of some Renthal bars when I was there too to line them up and see how they feel.
1cm more rise but didn't seem it... wider though.

what you reckon... do they go together?

    Cheers fella :)

Tis holding up fine, even after the lame crash that was lame lol.

Not really impressed by the Fox fork though.. it can sometimes ramp through the travel so fast that it nearly chucks you over the top!

Need something to go in its place. I may end up going single ring and Boxxers, but I'm not sure yet.

does it have high/low speed damping? you may wanna play with that if it does. If not, go for totems, the mission control is badass, and they'd suit the bike more than boxxers :)

hmmm i like the renthals but i also like the havocs. i would just see which one feels better and go from there

i'm not sure about boxxers but single ring defenintly. i have a 1x9 set up on my hardtail and i haven't looked back so i'd imagine on a bike like this it just makes even more sense. leave all the climbing for your boardman
  • Yeah the reason behind the renthals is because I want a bit more rise. I do like the havocs, but they're a bit low when it gets steep (not fast enough to be floating flat over steep stuff yet lol).

Boxxers because i'm not really liking the fox forks too much. Like I said, they really ramp through the travel too fast... a few searches and it seems to be common.

Only problem with 1x9 is I'm not always going to be on an uplift on the Canyon and it does pedal up pretty bloody well to be honest!

    Decisions decisions!

How often are you going to be sessioning a downhill track though that you can pedal up? Most don't even have a fire road, and those that do are quite often too steep to even pedal in granny, and if you're sessioning it with mates, how many of them will be pedalling up? Very few me thinks!

  • Lots... I can't always afford an uplift, and ride parts of the Twrch trail on the way to the top of the DH!

Ah i suppose you have cwmcarn.

I've only ever been on two uplifts, i just push up! Can't really pedal up if you're with mates that are on a full on DH bike, and none of our local DH trails have fire roads to the top

 i never knew that, would of thought the whole point of having a downhill track is that you have a decent fireroad so that you can pedal up...

then again the harder it is to get up back to the start the more money they make

maybe get a quad bike and tow rope and charge your own lift service, make a few quid while your at it too :D

It takes 20 mins in the van to get to the top on the DH at Cwmcarn!

Well, I don't drive, so the tracks I ride round here are unofficial rider-dug trails with no official owners (that's not to say they're not good), meaning no fire road and no uplift! I don't know any riders that bother pedalling back up on those where it's actually possible to do so anyway, it's just too much effort!

  • out of interest though have you serviced the canyon yet? or you going to send it to their london based centre?

interested to hear how the canyons holding up.

Not serviced as such, had the brakes bled recently though.

Not sending it to London to be serviced... sod that!
It'll go to Sunset bikes/be done at home!

Its holding up really well though.

Couple of uplifts now and trips down the DH and there is hardly a mark on it, still super tight.

Been checking the bearings etc and found no play at all.

Only thing I'm not sure of is the fork, it ramps through travel fairly fast occasionally :(
