And if its true, what do you suggest we do with these 'thick lower classes'?

As much as I'm going ot get flamed for this, the situation is now extreme, it's now time to bring in the army to bolster the numbers of the police.

Millions of £££ of danage is being caused, people are being indiscriminantly attacked and lives are now at risk.

Treat fire with fire. Anyone in the area of the riots should expect to be subject to the same treatment. If you're in the area to spectate, then tough, you're becoming an obstruction.

When the chief of Poliice says "right boys, I'm putting my job on the line here, but it's time to take the gloves off" he'll gain a great deal of respect.

And to make things worse, I've got to drive to Ipswich now !!!

You've changed your tune and done a U turn. Next you'll be calling for rioters and looters to be shot  .
    A bit

I'm not advcating putting the army on the streets and giving them control to sort the mess out. I'm syaing thay they should be there in numbers to reinforce the police. A lot of the army are trained in riot control (so I heard from a soldier on the radio this morning). So put them in their riot gear and put them on the streets. I'd like to think that the scumbags causing trouble would think twice when confronted by few couple of hundred soldiers charging in full riot gear.

Of course, the problem here is, do we have sufficient soldiers in the UK at the moment ? Again, I heard on the radio that there are a couple of battalions of soldiers, (so between 600 and 2400 I guess ?) who are essentially on call for such events, but the rest are on rotation in the various combat zones around the world.

This sort of thing just winds me up! Attack the rich people because they have worked and bothered to do something and improve their own lives. We all live by the same rules and laws!

They are mad at the government.....yet they have no idea who the government actually is. The reporter should have kicked these 2 girls in the head!

They won't call the army in, Cameron and the Police Commissioner guy (mr. no-name) don't want to lose face. They don't want to admit they can't keep control of the city.

Guess what, they can't keep control of the city.

If this was Syria, it'd be different. People like to scoff at places like Syria and say how "advanced" our society is. Well, this is the downside to that. No rule of law. No cops.

Cops here have outsourced policing to CCTV cameras. I wish I could outsource my income tax to someone else.

It is actually possible to be appalled by the idiots doing this sort of thing and to actually try and understand why so many are preparded to be involved. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Look at Hitlers Germany to understand that society can have a big influence on how people behave. Good people can (and do) do very bad things.

Many of these rioters are simply thieves who realise they have the perfect opportunity to feather their nests.
What is a bigger worry is why so many are prepared to go on a destructive rampage. If it was just the extreme end of society who don't give two hoots it wouldn't gain momentum, those nutters are complete loose cannons. The fact it has gained such momentum shows there is a much larger group of disaffected people who feel they have nothing to lose.
That is a problem for our society as we are losing these people. What is actually on offer for them? Like it or not, society is failing a large group of people that goes beyond just those who would never achieve anything under any circumstances.

Having said that, right now, we need to restore order and that does warrant a heavy handed approach.

"...scumbags who just need a bullet in the head."

"...most of the problems are caused by members of lowest classes of the society, not because of their "poverty" but mental thickness."

Just a small sample from the last two pages. Real nice people, eh?

Whilst there's no excuse for looting, there's no excuse for those kinds of comments. "Do you feel proud?" is just as relevant a question for these people making these comments here on a cycling forum.
  • The guy who had his rucksack looted was probably another looter going by the fresh wrapper that was thrown off whatever it was that was taken
  • Numerous independent record labels (Domino, FatCat, Big Dada, Warp, Soul Jazz, Beggars) and smaller film distributors (BFI, Artificial Eye and Dogwoof) fear they have lost a catastrophic amount of stock in the Sony warehouse blaze.

  • Here's the sort of apologist for their behaviour.
    leejasper-300x286.jpg
Lee Jasper. He was once advisor to former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, and for this role as the Mayor’s social sage and professional victim was paid well over a hundred thousand pounds of taxpayers’ money. Perhaps he should use some of this – and the other cash raised through other less honourable means – to fund these projects rather than bleating about problems that don’t exist and justifying his own self-appointed role and existence.
He spouted a load of shite in the Daily Mail.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ds-newsxml
even suggested that businesses were attacked for not helping to create projects for under-privileged youths, even asking “when did Currys [the electrical store] build a school?”
Erm, no. The branch of Currys in Tottenham was attacked and subsequently ransacked because it happened to contain electronic items: stereos, televisions, DVD players, mobile phones. One has to wonder if the B&Q around the corner – which wasn’t targeted by the looters – was left alone on account of its local youth project record? As if these people even give a shit about school anyway, save it being a gathering point where you can conveniently recruit for gangs, deal drugs and stab overworked teachers.

 Wow, I've never been accused of that before.
  • Lets face it there is bound to be a racist element underlying most of the Daily Reich hang em high comments.
Another stereotype we could use is that road cycling is primarily a middle class white sport/pastime, with under representation from ethnic minorities? You don't see many top black cyclists on Le Tour now do you?
I saw plenty of white people in the crowds too, just as angry as the rest.
The working class young of this country have got nothing whatsoever to look forward to- unemployment, or a lifetimes debt through a useless college/uni degree that will not improve their chances in life-the UK is no meritocracy, the best jobs always go to the middle class and above due to "connections", poor housing(if they can even get one)
I , like most of you will never understand the mindset of these folk trapped in inner city estate ghettos, but I can empathise at why they are so angry.
And has anyone considered that maybe they're not thick- hence the attacks on business and retail outlets while distracting the police? They cause the same havoc but without the baton to the head and get some stuff for free. The businesses will just add the damage costs to their future prices, then the government can bludgeon us all with some new laws restricting our liberties in the name of protecting us.
Could well be the desired end game the government really wants.....

Seconed! They have absolutly no idea! They don't know who the gouvernment is, they try to justify their actions by saying that they're "showing the police that they can do what they like".....why? They have no say anymore. And then when asked why they are targeting locals, they reason by saying it's the people with busnisses who are rich that they are targeting. 1. People who own busnisses can very often not be rich, unless the business is thriving, which in the current climate, is very difficult to achieve. 2. Local residents who don't own busnisses have also been caught up in the mess, causing people to have to jump out of burning buildings to save them selfs, and 3. the reason you may not be rich yourself is the fact you aren't at work and you're fucking drinking wine at 9:30am!! What a couple of dense, thoughtless, idiotic woman. The BBC should have issued that reporter with a tazer.

  • We have just signed a new player, one of 'arry's deals probably as I've never heard of him. Anyone know what Grabatelli is like?

    Ahem
  • The reporter on the beeb went to a court hearing of the first rioters to appear before the law. One was a graphic designer, one a student and one had just joined the army. Hardly disadvantaged youth.

The maximum sentence the court can apply is six weeks so their cases have been deferred to appear at a crown court where sentences can reach a maximum of 10 years.
