Yes, but the skirting boards should really sit on top of the floor. That would look much better than having the quadrant there. Very shiny though ....

Also, I think it looks better when the quadrant matches the colour of the skirting board, rather than the colour of the floor. So it that case a white quadrant would look better.

Much like I've done in my living room -

(Please don't take the p1ss out of the fact my bars are higher than my saddle, I just find it comfortable that way). ;)

How can you claim this is a comfortable riding position!?!? Not exactly aero . . . You must look ridiculous riding this monstrosity. We want pics of you riding this thing!

Oh and you want to loose the reflector and line the valves and crank arms up when taking pictures.

I was at the Geoff Thomas Sportive today, didn't see either of those bikes there or anyone curled up in pain at the side of the road having ridden such a bike.

I saw the rider pushing the Jamis today. Didn't see it being ridden though.
Rider (pusher) looked short and stocky.

I wish cyclesportphotos.com would hurry up and post the photos!

Its says the photos will be available Monday afternoon, by my calculations it is Monday afternoon. I can't stand the suspense.

I'm left handed, if that matters.

  • I've been watching this thread for ages now. Waiting as many others have for a pic of someone, anyone riding the bike. Now, at last I have a seen a picture of Crimmey riding it.

I'm going to be honest. I've worked in a bike shop, sold bikes to people, fixed bikes. I would never recommend this set-up to anyone, BUT, it doesn't look as bad as I thought. And if Crimmey is happy with it, fair do's. He looks happy on it, I'll give him that. Shows that it takes all sorts to go riding....

p.s. I have seen someone put a second stem hand handlebars on their bike, so they had drop bars to get down low, and flat bars on the second stem for round town. It looked worse than you think it would.
    p.p.s. Cracking thread. Thanks Crimmey!

Why aren't you in the drop postion on this downhill section? It seems a bit pointless having low bars if you're not going to use them.

Admittedly he looks like any normal person on their bike, the bike frame must be a weird size then surely?

And judging by position on the seat, I do not understand, that would be PAINFUL for any man at the saddle angle, just OUCH.

OMG the photos of the bikes in your tag line are amazing - a lot better than stuff on manufacturers' websites. How the heck do you do that? Filters? What kind of camera is it? I have your run of the mill Panasonic Tz7 and can't come near this.

I'm scared to ask b/c I bet it'll cost a lot of money?

To Crimmey - you look pretty good on your bike, your arms are quite straight but note your hand position is not much lower than the guy behind you and he's probably on a more "normal" set up. You probably have very short legs for your height.

I would say your bars are too wide for you, your arms are splayed out. The guy behind you looks pretty good - nice bend in the elbows. Don't forget that bend in the elbows is good for absorbing shock.

I don't believe what you say about no weight on your arms - the fact you have them stuck out in front like superman means your shoulders'd ache unless you rested them somewhere. The true test is thus: lift your hands off the bars while pedalling and see if you can maintain your back angle constant without using your torso muscles. You'll know in 15 seconds whether this is doable or if your back or stomach muscles are screaming. When you can do this, then you don't have any weight on your arms.
    When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.

without wanting to turn the thread from its main purpose ;-) you are right, those are great shots - i am guessing a DSLR in raw mode with some tweaking afterwards. I have a TZ10, used to have a TZ3, plus own a couple of DSLRs with decent lenses. For picture quality the TZs don't come within a million miles of the DSLRs, but, and it's a big BUT, the TZs are pocketable so i take far more pictures with them, so which is the 'better' camera? And now it will turn out these shots were taken on a compact anyway ;-)

And to the OP - good for you, turns out the bike doesn't look nearly as extreme when you are on it, to these novice cycling eyes anyway!

DSLR and a macro lens with tweaks in Lightroom - contrast, saturation and vignetting.

The saddle tilt, whilst very comfy, also lets me use multiple positions on the bike whilst retaining the same/similar/'optimum' saddle to crank length. Sit back for hills ( further away from crank so tilt lowers position to compensate) and on flat where/if I need to pull on bars, in middle for general riding and on the end for extra power, which isn't as uncomfortable as you may think. Who needs Basso's adjustable post? I can get in drops in any position. The saddle in any other position feels like Im sitting on concrete even with tyres at 60psi. I run my tyres at 120-130psi, no probs, whether I need to is another debate entirely. If anything the saddle at the mo is a bit too far forward or not tilted enough.

The bars are 40cm c-c. Frame size for Jamis is 51cm, Scott 52cm. Bib longs because I always freeze my arse off and I have a waterproof/wind stopper if upperbody gets too cold. I was coldish during this ride. Head is probably tilted too far up, can't help it at least I can see whats in front of me :)

When I went solo after 40 odd miles I was in the drops about 40% of the time - lots of hills. On Scott I tend to climb in the drops whilst standing. There were a few piccys of me on the Pendle Witches VV gallery, cyclesport photos but I think they've all gone. I think that piccy posted above is deceiving because I don't remember such a big looking descent before the camera man on the hill or coming up to a hill. If anything I am focused on keeping up my momentum for the hill.

Could have done with a compact on some of those climbs though. Didn't realise there were some 20%ers.

    Pendlewitches3.jpg

Dug this out, think Im on the adjustable stem, 12cm and a silly angle or it might be my Cinelli track stem which is 13cm and 25 degrees.

Trying to perfect my TT bike position now.....

ironically, the lad in the foreground looks almost as low as you do - and he's on the hoods - and his setup is normal - and he's not grinning like a loon.....
