Thanks martj, I've just read through your thread - they weren't very gentle with you were they? Think there is a lesson there in communicating on forums, some people will always rough you up if your post looks a bit slap-dash or is difficult to read because of grammar or spelling.
Hope you got sorted in the end, I'd be interested to know what you bought and your thoughts after riding it though - especially if it was a Strive.
I've had the first email today - "Your bike will be passed to UPS within 48hrs etc" so fingers crossed for early next week. Time to plan a début ride, it cant be a mundane usual one!0 -

I think Canyon are bewildered at the amount of poor English they receive from the UK.

*sad face*
Grand Canyon AL was supposed to delivered this week, thought I'd send an email as they hadnt taken any money yet, got a reply back with 24hrs to say theres a suppy delay on some parts. New estimated delivery date is first week of December ... that'll teach me for getting all amped up, having a bit of a buzz crash lol0 -
Hi,
I am looking to buy a Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 7.0 Di2.
Their on-line measuring puts me at a small, having spoken to the UK office, the guy told me I should 'go for medium without a doubt'.
Does anyone with similar measurements to me (see below) have the bike? If so, what size did you go for and how is the fit?
height - 173cm
inseam - 81 cm
torso - 61 cm
shoulder - width - 43 cm
arm length - 62 cm
'Ape Index' - 178cm i.e. - 5cm longer than height
Thanks

Few questions if anyone could help:
- Is the SLX worth the extra £'s - both bikes are near identical build wise with the exception of the 6.9 having RS Reba RL and the SLX 7.9 having Fox 32 Float CTD.
- If the SLX is worth the ... what colour?! I quite like Radar on the 6.9 ... I'm not sure on Black Ano or Acid Storm :?
- The two frames are slightly different - I've no idea how different geometries would affect the ride?0 -
ddraver wrote:Carbon vs Alloy is it (basically?)
Forks is a question of which brand you prefer, both very good.
Sadly no such luxurious choice of carbon or al ... both the bikes I'm looking at are aluminium frames. Looking at the frames again the AL uses the same frame as last years Yellowstone series bikes, the AL SLX has a completely different design (internaly routed cables, neater looking frame joints, etc) not just different dimensions. Still though, is the extra £300 well spent?
I'm going to be going crazy in another 4 weeks of waiting, 8 has bene bad enough, taking it up to 3 months + and I might have an excitmental breakdown lol0 -
I think I would've bought something else that I could've enjoyed the summer riding.0

Summer was over pretty much when I put the order in0

Weather was still lovely 8 weeks ago.0

True, and its not that bad out now ... but in another 4 weeks we'll be fast heading in to winter.0

Cool out but blue skys here although plenty of overnight rain means its nice and muddy out. I dont mind mud, I really want to get plenty of riding in before its cold and/or hammering down with rain every weekend.
So, GC AL 6.9 cancelled, Grand Canyon AL SLX 7.9 ordered in black ano & is shown as in stock - fingers crossed it'll be here in about a week.0 -

Unfortunately it had a massive dent in the down tube when I got it out of the box, it looks like the box had been squeezed inwards and the rear cassette has been crushed into the down tube. Gutted is an understatement! Has anyone else had any issues with damage in transit?
Canyon have been very good about it, the bike was collected for return by UPS within 48 hrs and a new one is on its way out to me. Great service but still frustrating having to wait twice as long to get out and ride it.
Just an update to this post to ensure a bit of balance. I received a second Canyon Strive last Friday, this one in perfect, unblemished condition. I had a little tootle on the road over the weekend to check everything worked and get the front and rear shock pressures something like before taking it up to Rivington last night.
It blew me away, plain and simple. The thing is amazing, feels very light, 13.8kg claimed and I can believe it. Really good on the ups, better than my Cotic Bfe and absolutely awesome coming back down. This is my first full floater so I was amazed at the difference it made. I carried so much speed over rocks, drops and really rough ground and it was very sure footed. To say I'm pleased with it is a massive understatement.
To anyone unsure if the strive really is a do everything bike - don't worry - 5 miles or 55 miles you will be fine. It climbs like a mountain goat and comes back down like a meteor. No issues with the linear-ness of the shock either, maybe I'll notice it more as my experience increases.
The whole buying experience was OK, not wonderful but really good customer service made up, almost, for receiving a bent bike. A freebie mech hanger and screw was a nice gesture on Canyons part. Would i buy another? Yep, I would.0 -
So regarding the linear feel of the rear shock (or the lack of it as you mentioned) how did you test it? Did you do any jumps or drops? Did you ride through any rockgardens? Also what about the standover clearance? Is it enough for you? I am asking because I seriously consider buying it.0

If you're looking at 2014 models, Canyon said the Strive was going to have a more progressive suspension tune for 2014.0 -
I will wait for some reviews on this just to be sure. For example this one http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/categ ... -13-47507/ is rather disappointing. What about the standover clearance?0

Medium I reckon. My mrs is 171 and rides the equivalent geometry to a small and I m 178 and ride a medium - and all my measurements are the same as yours except I have 4cm longer legs and 1 cm longer torso so reach to bars similar
I reckon if you have long arms the medium would be best but with a slightly shorter stem than stock if nec and also removing spacers or flipping stem if racing and stack height too much.
Otherwise maybe go and and get a proper fitting down your local bike shop taking the geometry details- I paid 25 quid for one as wasnt buying a bike from their shop - was worth itleelondon117 wrote:Hi,

the slx is more " racy" - ie position etc - Ive seen both in their showroom and i would only ever go for the slx as it really is optimised for xc/trail riding at speed.
A couple of swedes I know did very well on theirs in a recent race I was in. Beat me. Id personally fork out the difference for that frame. You can up the components over time if necessary and as along as you buy the right size it will last for ever. Buy quality: buy once0 -
Do canyon let you know if a bike you've ordered is going to be delayed or come ahead of schedule?0

Its my first full susser so I'm no expert but it feels ok. I do a fair few jumps and drops. As for rock gardens, did Cavedale and the Beast on Sunday and it ate them up.
I use most of the travel most rides is the best I can say - it doesn't feel like I'm bottoming out. I'm 16st int nak so a fair bit heavier in full kit 245psi in the shock seems good.
I'm aware of this "too linear" thing and Fox 2013 rear shocks - if it bothers you a volume reducer kit is £19 and DIY in half an hour. Thats what I decided in the end - its not the bike, its the shock and they are all the same apparently. As i get more attuned to the feel of the bike I may or may not decide one is needed.
As for standover clearance - not much. I have a large, I'm just over 6ft, have a regular leg and my nut sack brushes the top tube stood over. Dont really see that as an issue though, never really understood the point of that measurement. One thing to note is that the Top tube is quite short, not ridiculously so but noticeable compared to some other bikes. This is more of a personal thing but I like it and don't want to be bent forward to far and in fact I'm going to put a 50mm riser stem on to replace the 70mm it came with. Very comfy all day bike, I'm going to change the bars and stem as I want a bit more height at the front to take the weight off my hands but thats it and really thats me being fussy and wanting it the same as my Beefy.0 -

Only knew my order was delayed 4 weeks when I contacted Canyon around the time of the original shipping date as I hadnt heard anything (excitement/impatience was starting to set in lol). Thats not to say they wouldnt have contacted me ... but I'd have expected them to have known in advance of a parts delay and to have sent an email out or courtesy - and thats my only gripe with the whole process. Otherwise they have always been really helpful, always responded with in 24hrs to emails.
My 2nd order was on time, Canyon sent a "ready to ship" email on Thursday lunch time shortly followed by the UPS details and then a shipping confirmation. Bike delivered yesterday afternoon.
I tell you, going from a 15/16 year old rigid 26" to a 29er with front susp is something! Will take some getting used to. And going to 620mm handlebar will take a bit of getting used to, not to mention using cleats!
I know its psychological, but it feels like huge bike to ride even though it weights about the same as my GT and feels a lot nicer. Dressed it up yest with mud guards ... cant help but think it looks really tame, like a commuter bike, thinking I should have chosen the Acid Storm colour now :?0 -
Oh, one thing, well two;
Fox CTD - I read in another thread someone had an issue with the lockout not working properly and there was loads of movement. That was one of the first things I checked ... and sure enough the lockout wasnt working properly.
Simple fix, move the remote! Canyon locate it on the outside of the brake leaver next to the grip, this puts tension on the cable which lifts the cable guide on the top of the fork and stops the cable from moving freely. I swapped the remote to the inside of the shifter - this released the tension and let guide sit back down on the fork and also gets the remote out the way a bit.
The other thing was the transport blocks/wedges in the brake calipers had both fallen out! Glad I was careful not the grab the levers when building it all up
Oh, and anyone know where my light could be?! Moved the garage around the other week and tidied up - BIG mistake, now I can only find the battery pack0 -
It's under the plantpots.0
