I've got a nerve 8.0x on order in the "raw" finish - hoping it'll be here within a week. would've liked to get a strive, but couldn't wait as I had my Norco nicked a fortnight ago and I'm sick of being bikeless! the nerve range has great spec and is mega VFM, and I seem to only read good things so looking forward to getting acquainted with it!

I bust my Nerve hanger after a month put on the spare I had bought when I ordered the bike and bust that a week later when I got bad chain suck. Got a BETD one on now been on for 9 months had to lever it back straight after I dumped the bike in the weeds. Seems like it should last, just looks quality where the Canyon one looks like it was made by a school metalwork class.
Just looking for a spare hanger for my Strive, BETD don't list Canyon on their site? Did you get it direct?

Put Pilo into Google, not sure if they have one for a Strive though.

  • I have also broken my hanger by failing to unclip when stationary! I bought a spare when I bought the bike, but £9 shipping for a new one seems a bit steep. I found one of the pilo ones on http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk for £19.99 delivered. http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/262/d250/d250---canyon-19-hanger.html

    Has anyone used them before?
  • Grand Canyon CF 9.0 arrived this afternoon!

it's sooooo light compared to my old Trek. Handles bars are a little on the wide side for me, i'll trim half and inch off each side once i've got the tools.

i'l upload a pic once i've finished the build, but for now does anyone know what these bits are?!!

    bits2.jpg

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

rings are plastic about the diameter of a shockpost the tube is 2-3mm plastic pipe, i have no idea why they are in the box! ;)

Tubing is to help when you replace the internally routed cables. You slide it up inside over the inner cable, take the old cable out, insert new, take plastic pipe out.

At least that's what I think it's for...

No idea on the rings - look headset sized? Or BB spacers?

I had something similar except mine was clear! No idea what it is unless it's something like an internal cable routing tool?!
  • Heres a few pictures of my Grand canyon CF 9.0:

    wheels1z.jpg
Unpacking the box, the wheels alone cost more than my last bike! I'm sure the Rocket Ron's will do the business, but it's my first time using Presta valves, time will tell if i get on with those :|

    cf4b.jpg
Part way done, using the box it came in as a make shift workstand! You get tons of paperwork with the bike, the manual is epic!

    bars1.jpg
Hacking the handle bars to shorten them a bit, took about 20mm off each end. Mainly because i prefer them a bit narrower and the Ergon GP2 grips where a little bit shorter than the vanilla ones it came with.

    pedal1x.jpg
My first time using proper grown-ups pedals! Thought i'd give SPD's a go rather than fitting my old flats. After the first ride today I'd say they were a fine investment. and i didn't fall off! Please excuse the naff chain protector, it's all i had kicking around in the spares box, got some lizard skins on their way from CRC.

    cf2h.jpg
I'm 6ft 4in and was undecided about large or X-large, went with the Large in the end, which feels good, but as you can see in the pic i have the seatpost out to the max. No regrets as i made the mistake of buying XXL on my last bike, which was hard to control at higher speeds. Very happy with the Canyon, i can just chuck it around with ease. Maybe i should have cut the grass before posting pictures online

As you might be about to see, i have bought last years model at a vastly reduce price from the Canyon outlet store. the build certificate that comes with it says it was made in November 2011, so barely 6 months old  . The newer one have 2X10 rather than 3X10 also the new one have Magura MT 6 brakes rather than the Formula R1's on this one. Personally I'd rather have the 3X10 as i like to ride to and from the trails, it's 2 or 3 miles on road to where i like to have a muddy blast. On a shake down ride today up and down the local cycle path, i was mostly on the 3rd ring, so i think I'll put it to good use. I've put a crud catcher on, but to be honest it's fairly redundant as the down tube is so big, but I'll try it for now, if nothing else it's protecting the frame from stonechips.

overall I'd say the bike is fantastic, light, fast and comfortable, I did nearly 20 miles today on a cycleway and could have easily done more. brakes will stop you on a penny and the gears are slick and quick, Although it will take me a little while to get used to the hollow thud from the frame when you change, but I'm guessing a lot of carbon fiber frames are like that. well happy :D

    Hi all,

I purchased a Canyon Nerve AM 6.0 three weeks ago after I saw a guy riding one at Woburn Sands Trails. On checking the t'internet site for Canyon I couldn't believe the cost of the bike for the spec that you get!!! "Buy Now" simply clicked itself spookily!!

I recieved mine within 8 days and have loved riding it. As for the sizing, I'm 6"2' and I used their full sizing guide and got some one to measure me properly. They recommended a Large. When I put it together i did think it was massive and was going to be too big, but nope, perfect fit!

I did have a slight off on a trail though last week and somehow managed to split a tiny piece of plastic inside the Shimano SLX front gear shifter which rendered it inoperable!! Fortunately ChainReaction Cycles sold a single SLX shifter for £25 so didnt grumble as recieved it within 24 hours. And the it took me a further 24 to swap the shifter and route the cabling through the tube to the derailieur (but not complaining as i know what to do next time!)

Otherwise, these bikes are amazing in spec, cost, weight and downright filthy grin factor fun! Ill be posting pics on "your rides" soon!

    Sorry, another sizing question..

I am looking at Canyon Nerve AM 9.0x, I am 6ft and 80kg.
Wondering weather to get a medium or a large?

I ride a large cube at the moment and find it ok, but would prefer something a little smaller. But then I've tried other bikes that are medium and found them to be a little bit too small.
Guess I could always fit a shorter stem on the large bike..

    cheers for any advice..

Hi Guys, Got my Canyon Nerve AM 7.0 a few months back pretty chuffed with it so far.

However, the website states MT4 levers come as standard. Mine actually came with MT2's fitted? Anyone else had this?

Actually having double checked they are MT4's....but they look very much like MT2's as they don't have the on-the-fly adjuster knob that i've seen

Got my Canyon Nerve AM 9.0X last week. Being 6ft 2, 85kg the large fits me perfectly. It is a big bike and if I were a little smaller I'd definitely prefer the medium. Mind you I prefer a bike to be a little on the small side so I can chuck it about a lot. My old bike being a 19" Cannondale Rush.

    Hope that helps.

By the way, it's a brilliant bike. Just make sure if the Reverb isn't working when it comes out of the box that it's actually got some air in it, mine didn't and the stupid manual says do not ever muck about with the air pressure.

    Cheers

Thanks for the info. How does the bike cope on downhills! I've heard it's possibly not as stable as some of its rivals?
And how is it for pedalling around on bridleways?
I'm trying out a mates medium canyon soon so that should help too.

    Cheers

Just ordered an AM 9.0. Canyon have just reduced this by £161 (200 Euro) so with the good exchange rate I got this for £2177! The spec for this price is even more incredible than usual.

I've only ridden it a couple of times but so far I'm very impressed. To be honest, the only reason some people may say it's not as stable at speed would be because of a steep-ish head angle compared to current fashion of say 67 degrees or less on an "all mountain" bike. Some may say this makes it twitchy, I personally say it makes it responsive and I like it that way.

I'm not a fan of a very long, low slung bike as I find it compromises slow speed manoeuvrability a touch. And as for stable at speed anyway, rode mine off road on the South Downs last Monday at 52mph and it felt very stable indeed :D

Had an email from Canyon, seems like they've reduced the price of a few models, plus they went down a bit a few weeks ago because of the exchange rate.

When I queried this with Canyon, Cullen said that they were an OEM setup and that only the after market items have the bite adjuster.

After a couple rides though, i've ended up changing mine for a set of the new XT's from actionsports.de as the Maugra's seemed soft all the time even after a few full bleeds, plus I wanted the everything to match :D

steveplymouth i hope you plan on racing with that bike as just using it for trails is a sin against the mighty bike god and punishment for not doing races is having pinch puntures for the rest of your life

sweeet bike though, was about to buy a Canyon nerve xc8/9 then relized due to work id never have enough time to use it so now currently saving up for a.......cof cof road bike,(though probably will be canyon)

I have just got my Nerve xc7 and love it, climbs well, smooths out the downhills and has given me loads more confidence speed wise-first bike with disc brakes so that prob explains alot.

Only gripe so far is the paintwork, I bungeed the bike in the back of my van and now have a bungee scar on the crossbar! tried everthing even t-cut I know its only a mark but would rather it was there through a better story than a bungee!

Be interested to see what your other half thinks of the Nerve, there are very few female perspectives of the Canyon range on here.

I'll be sure to post up some pictures and her opinion of the bike once it's here and built up. She's upgrading from a Kona Lisa hardtail so i'm sure she will be happy. The Kona wasn't too far off the price of the Canon when new and the difference in component specification between the two is very impressive to say the least. I think i might be more excited for her to get it than her!

Lol, i will be, but not this year. had major lung surgery a while back which put me out of action for a while, so getting my fitness back up this year. trying to clock up the miles and get my stamina up.

did a 30 miler last weekend, which probably doesnt sound much to some of you, but considering post surgery i couldnt even do a 5 minute walk to the shops without getting out of breath, i thought it was good!

bike now has some DMR vaults on it, gone back to flat pedals after a couple of silly topple overs with the SPD's! worst one was suddenly having to stop out side a packed pub and not being able to unclip in time , well at least they all found it funny!
