Gilbert got 14th I think, so Cavendish gained a total of 35 points over him today (including the intermediate).0

You really don't like him do you? Did he turn you down or something?0 -
It looked to me like Cavendish was a bit "out of sorts" he just didn't seem to have as much fight as usual almost like he knew he was beaten from 25mtrs out. For me Cavendish on top form would have kicked in again, but he just seemed to fade a little. I suppose it shows how important mentally it is to have the right lead out for a sprint, which he didn't today. You've no won the Big Cup since 1902!0

Good win for Greipel, I thought it enevitable that he would get one, he's been looking pretty good this tour.0
-
1. GILBERT Philippe 32 OMEGA PHARMA - LOTTO 226 pts
2. ROJAS Jose Joaquin 88 MOVISTAR TEAM 209 pts
3. CAVENDISH Mark 171 HTC - HIGHROAD 197 pts
Possibility of Cav being in green this time tomorrow.0 -
Greipel's well chuffed, Cav's only 29pts behind Gilbert now. Good ride by Cav, getting up that last climb to stay in contention and having to go from a long way out.Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0

Cavendish = nice bloke whenever I've bumped into him, very passionate about cycling and prone to the occasional unscripted outburst - good to have characters in the sport though. He's prone to the occasional idiot moment, but aren't we all?0 -
How many points did Mark lose by coming second there?0

I said hello to him quickly at the Tour presentation at Puy de Foy and he seemed nice. No arrogance or attitude.0 -

10.
However, I think OPL would have prefered to get rid of him on that last climb, so it was probably points gained today.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Well you have to remember that it took a huge effort to stay within touching distance of Gilbert over the final climb. His main two lead out men couldn't live with the pace. So it's not surprising that he didn't have quite the zip that he would have on a purely flat stage.0 -

Good to hear Gesink sounding upbeat there.0 -
Ok am Really Really Sorry - I didnt know the Manx Missile fan club was on. Not wanting to fall out with the fanboys on here. what i should have said Cavendish should take a step back and think before he puts his size 12s in it. .....He seems to not like Greipel but have never heard Greipel slag off cavendish and they were team mates.0

It was Greipel slagging off (a bit strong maybe) Cavendish that started the feud between them in the first place.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Indeed.
I note that the CN "haters" have taken salvation in this single Greipel victory.
A lot of subjective rubbish flying around cyberspace at the mo.
Overall, Cav must be fairly happy with today's return, given the effort that was made to get rid of him on the final climb.
Seeing John Gadret spat out was a real shock!"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

This.
It was good tactics by Omega, as recognised by Gripes in the post-race interview. Matt Goss is supposed to be better than Cav on the punchy hills and he was blown away - says a lot about how well Cav did just to stay there. I thought he was a goner.
No question the race organisers have gone foursquare for "classics" stages rather than genuine bunch sprint jobs this year...My cycle racing blog: http://cyclingapprentice.wordpress.com/

Surprising that Cav and Greipel could stay up there when the likes of Goss, Renshaw, Farrar etc. couldn't follow. Greipel seems to be getting quite versatile, seeing as he used to be considered a rider for pan flat fast finishes only.0 -
So pleased for his win.
