For all everybody seems to discount DM they (Rabo) got a bit to go yet to fill his boots after all he nailed them 3 Grand Tours and a TDF podium.

    Just caught up.
The only really winner today was the climb. Along with a headwind, it killed of much of any ambition that might have been lurking.

Hero of the day: BMC's Matthias Frank, by a country mile. A truly fantastic effort.
    Big, big chapeau.
Villain of the day: Team One rule for us Trek.

Levi is his own worst enemy. When it comes to work, he just won't do a tap.
All that sucking for just 8 seconds. Hard to tolerate, never mind like.

Kruijswijk is a true man of orange.

Oh and Eskimo Tom has learnt a new way to fail from Schlekette.

According to this site he also has a broken ankle and had fluid drained from his lungs and the spectator was not seriously hurt.Fingers crossed as you say.

Leopard Trek are tactically inept. All well and good Canc towing the bunch at 80kph on the flat but what was the point? They then have 3 or 4 in the front group setting the pace that allowed Matthias Frank to get back and also for the Euskatel rider to sit in for a couple of ks after getting caught. Levi wasted the chance of a stage win by refusing to work until it was too late although I was glad he did!

I agree about DM, but perhaps they knew that he'd had his best years with them. With young guys like Mollema, Gesink and Kruiswijk they have a great future.

What has happened to A Schlecks climbing? I know he is peaking for the tour but this is a bit ridiculous that 3 weeks from the tour he can't stick with the group

He really doesn't look that good. I wonder if there ia a real problem there? Is he ill?

It is one thing to go to California and look horrible, but he should be able to stick with Levi, the prince, etc.

At least he didn't drop his chain -- that's a small victory.

He was awful in California and if he is sandbagging in this tour he is taking a risk as this won't do his confidence any good with such poor results.
He needs to be showing some form so he knows he will be competative with gc contenders over whole tdf.
Confidence is not to be understimated, wonder if he is really sandbagging or just going like a bag of pants as there is not much time left for him to peak.

Hope Soler makes full recovery, reading reports does not look good prognosis :(

Soler's been placed in an induced coma. Doctors don't know if his life is in danger or not.

Here's hoping he makes it through OK.

    Fingers crossed for Soler.

For all those passing judgement on Andy Schleck, can you point me towards the outstanding performances in the mountains in the warm up races prior to the last 3 Tours please? Thanks.

    Mauricio Soler's health progressing well
    Junio 17, 2011 | Madrid

Mauricio Soler is still at the intensive care unit of the Hospital Sankt Gallen after the important crash suffered yesterday during the opening phase of the sixth stage in the Tour de Suisse. The Colombian rider's status is stable though serious, and has undergone a slight improvement.

“The news today are good," commented Alfredo Zuñiga, Movistar Team's doctor at the Helvetic tour. "Mauricio is still at the ICU and his progress is being favourable. The cerebral edema, which is the most worrying thing, has gone through a slight improvement and that's why we have to stay optimistic, even though we have to keep reservations because recovery in such processes is unpredictable. The 48-72 hours following the accident are crucial, but the first hours, which are even more critical, have been got over by him. The progress of his neumotorax has been good, too. He also has multiple injuries and fractures, but the thing the doctors are more focused on now is the edema. He's being cared by the best of hands and the attention by all people working at the Hospital St. Gallen is being phenomenal."

What's the consensus on whether the Little Prince can hang on to top spot in the TT?

1 Damiano Cunego (Ita) Lampre - ISD 21:26:28
2 Bauke Mollema (Ned) Rabobank Cycling Team 0:01:23
3 Steven Kruijswijk (Ned) Rabobank Cycling Team 0:01:36
4 Frank Schleck (Lux) Leopard Trek 0:01:41
5 Levi Leipheimer (USA) Team RadioShack 0:01:59
6 Laurens Ten Dam (Ned) Rabobank Cycling Team 0:02:24
7 Jakob Fuglsang (Den) Leopard Trek 0:02:45
8 Mathias Frank (Swi) BMC Racing Team 0:03:10
9 Giampaolo Caruso (Ita) Katusha Team 0:03:11
    10 Tejay Van Garderen (USA) HTC-Highroad 0:03:22

His biggest challenger looks to be Levi The Limpet - Cunego lost 3'47 to him in the very hilly and technical 60km TT in the '09 Giro. But who knows if the Prince was giving it full beans that day?

Kruijswijk may also be in with a shout. He beat Cunego by 1'25" over a hilly 20km TT at this year's Romandie.

But contrary to what I initially thought, Cunego can do a decent TT when it suits him..........4th on St.6 of Basque Tour in 2008 over a hilly 20km, 49" behind winner Contador..........and 1'08" ahead of Frank Schleck.

    Hmmmmm

This is the profile of the final stage:

    stage_9_profile_600.jpg

It looks fairly lumpy so Cunego may have a chance to hold off some of his challengers. I still think he'll be looking to get more time on them today though.

Cunego's team havent looked good in this race. Maybe Rabobank/Leopard/Radioshack will push hard on the early climb to leave Cunego isolated and then attack him.

    Not the point.

We all know that this is the way he prepares -- the issue is that he looks worst than usual.

The useless Slacker Schleck is in the big break today. Kim took his tabs off him last night and told him he had to knock back on the smoking before the Tour (I may have made some of this up)

Maybe someone has pointed out to him that the easiest way to meet podium girls is by getting on the podium.

I have a funny feeling if the podium girls, were actually podium boys, he might try and do a bit better...

AS is 20 mins down on GC. Best placed man in the break is Bakelants at a whisker under 10 mins, so the break needs to find another 3 mins to take over the yellow
