The carrots had a go at a lead out train too, not something you see every week..

Yes, he's been taken to hospital. Some spectators also injured I think
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

Race ticker, via Google translate is saying

The sad confirmation has arrived: The need in the overall standings at No. 2 Juan Mauricio Soler lying injured abandon the race. I still can not say what happened to the Colombians in his fall. The medical department will be informed in a press conference tonight. In the accident, fans will also have been involved at the roadside, and they are maintained.

Unsausti Izagirre (EUS), Angel Madrazo Ruiz (MOV) und Sylvain Chavanel (QST) have ~ 4 mins 30 with about 60km to go. No great urgency in the chase

Dutchie on the CN forum reporting it's a cranial fracture, so that will need to be confirmed.
Carrara abandons after another pile up. All in good weather.

Velonation saying the same - crash with spectators after 13km, skull fracture and airlifted to hospital.

It's easy to joke about his bike handling, but that doesn't sound good. Hope he's OK.

Always been a favourite rider of mine Soler, a true climbing talent. I really hope he and the others involved are going to be ok.

eurosport saying that he was in collision with spectators and has suspected fractured skull. Nasty.

@cyclingfans: "Spectators also injured in Soler crash; organizers will release details only after stage finish. (AFP)"

Hope I'm mistaken, but that doesn't sound promising.

Cancellara's towing the bunch along. Eurosport put a speedo on the screen.
    80kph
It didn't look too downhill either.

The race ticker has said that the spectators were not seriously injured.

Biciciclismo also mentioned 'fractura de cráneo', but that was hours ago - seems no news apart from Soler and some spectators hospitalised. Hope they're well.

In the race, big final climb now, 13 km @ 9 % average :o

Mollema/Kruijswijk/Ten Dam likely to try something, and all other climbers still need to distance Leipheimer, sitting pretty in the GC fairly close looking at the final TT

What has happened to A Schlecks climbing? I know he is peaking for the tour but this is a bit ridiculous that 3 weeks from the tour he can't stick with the group

only a dozen or so in the lead group now - losing seconds to the chasers but surely the stage winner will come from this group.

Kruijswijk is off - but it's killing Ten Dam and Mollema

Cunego, Leipheimer, Schleck just behind Kruijswijk

Good win by Kruijswijk - coming out of the Giro with a top 10 GC gives you something extra; this climb must have seemed easy after Zoncolan etc

He really doesn't look that good. I wonder if there ia a real problem there? Is he ill?

It is one thing to go to California and look horrible, but he should be able to stick with Levi, the prince, etc.

At least he didn't drop his chain -- that's a small victory.
