Yes it is and I have no idea (plenty of articles about it available on the web). If someone is offering you a 520 frame then it would have to be pretty damn cheap to compete with the cost of a new 725.
Would £250 for frame and fork in great condition be a good price? For a 2010 frame/fork/seatpost/handlebar?0 -

I am thinking of selling my 520 frame and buying the new 725 frame since they now come in Grey/pewter. Obviously I'll have to buy a new bike and swap out the parts.
Ah, a man after my own heart with his dislike of the cherry red! I can't imagine it will make a huge difference weight wise, but when you consider that the Claud Butler Holdsworth bike we were lusting over in the Handsomest Bike thread is a 725 frame and costs silly money, the super cheap Equilibrium seems like particularly good value.
I'm still waiting for my frame to come back from its respray at Colour Tech. They have been ludicrously slow, but all-in-all it is still way better value than buying the full bike and then selling on the parts.0 -

Then I'll put the frame only on flee bay with a reserve. If it sells for a half decent price I can then by the 725 frame of the same grey colour to go with my fork.
You can only buy the frame set in red I think. The different colours are for complete bikes only.--

Evening all,
Just thought I would post a pic of my new build
Obligatory kitchen shot of course.

cost saving measure originally. I re-used as many bits and pieces as I could from my other bikes. The only post I had of the correct diameter was from my Dads old bike that I inherited when he had a brain haemorrhage. It's being swapped out for a Thomson Elite soon.
Despite this being in the commuting section, I don't commute on the bike (I work from home). I've built it for riding longer distances more comfortably.
I'm doing a charity ride in memory of the 96 LFC fans who died at Hillsborough: http://www.rideforthe96.co.uk/?page_id=72 and wanted a bike more comfortable for multiple longer days in the saddle, light touring, audaxes etc0 -

Nice bikes you two.
Still annoyed they didn't offer the frameset in black.0 -
Yep, I don't really understand why they don't to be honest.
Question for you Equilibrium owners.
Was just cleaning the bike after todays club ride, and noticed at the bottom of the drive side seat stay my frame - on the inside - is detented.
It's certainly not had any knocks, and there's no paint damage, which makes me think that perhaps its designed like that.
I've attached a few pics - is this the way the frames are, or should I be contacting Genesis?!

mine has a dent in the same place, not as big as yours though.0

That dent is normal. I spotted mine while cleaning so went back to shop, they checked other models in shop and they all had them. Apparently you often find them on steel frames something about protecting the frame if the chain jumps off or when you are changing the wheel iirc.--

Hi guys, I've recently started using my bike for commuting two or three times a week and am really enjoying it. I've not looked after my old Iron Horse hybrid very well and have been looking at investing in a decent bike and have fallen in love with the Equilibrium!
I've had a quick google search and this seems to be the cheapest, was wondering if it's best to wait until Jan 2012 - is it likely they will discount the 2011 bikes?

The only change I can work out on the 2012 model is the rear cassette, changing from a 12-25 105 to an 11-28 Tiagra. My thought is that as the bike is so close to identical it's not worth waiting too long as I wouldn't see the prices drop that much. I could be wrong. Also sooner you get the bike sooner you can ride it. If you have a good LBS consider going there, I paid a little more than you but got 6 week, 6 months and 12 month services included which is worth £200 plus peace of mind if something goes wrong. Just a thought.--

H all I ride a 52cm Equilibrium and adore her, my first steel bike and won't be going back to alloy/carbon any time soon.... however as she is such a small frame (I'm an odd shape 5'9" with little legs and long body) I need the seatpost quiet high and want to bring the bars up a bit higher to match, the reach for me is spot on with standard 100mm stem but I get neck ache over distance due to the race style angle I'm at and want to raise the bars.
My question is this, to upgrade my stem to a steeper angle (I think the oe stem is 6 degree rise) to bring my bars up a cm or two would I need to go longer to keep the reach the same???
I have seen a very nice Thompson stem at a 17degree rise but would I have to buy a 110/120 to keep the reach or am I just being thick??? :roll:0 -
Marvellous. A trigonometry question.
Current: 100mm * cos (7 degrees) == 99.25mm
Possible 100mm: 100mm * cos(17 degrees) = 95.63 mm
Possible 110mm: 110mm * cos (17 degrees) == 105.19 mm
Answer: Your current reach is pretty much bang in the middle of the reach of the 100mm and the 110mm stem with a 17 degree rise -- this is assuming that you're only interested in the horizontal distance... But you aren't really; you're probably more interested in the shoulder->bar reach. It's possible to work out the difference in distance between shoulder and bar if you want to go nuts, but the difference in horizontal reach is, unsurprisingly, just under a centimetre. I'd give up worrying, and go for the 100mm stem, playing with the saddle position a bit if necessary or sticking it on eBay if it really can't work for you.
Edit: What I'm saying is: it doesn't make much difference. Pick one, and try it.
Edit 2: And I forgot to account for the steerer angle, and I got your OE stem rise wrong (I am a little tipsy). The previous edit is the correct advice.Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -

I was getting neck ache on mine (56" 6ft, 30" inside leg) at first and was contemplating a new shorter stem. However, I didn't end up getting one and instead made two dirt cheap changes. The first was simple which was to remove the visor from my helmet so I didn't have to raise my head as far, the second was a small twist on the bars to raise the hoods up a bit, which is much cheaper alternative to a new stem and worth trying first.--

Dear all, with much heartbreak I just think she is too small so I have her up for sale.....
She is the black and white frame and can be found here on bikeradar

I see Genesis has shown a few more prototypes this week, including a Ti Equilibrium....

Planning a best bike towards the end of the year. A Ti Equilibirum just jumped into the short list. That being said I think preference at the moment is something in Ti with disk brakes and maybe Di2 Ultegra. Might have to be custom built I think....--

Whoa! Someone's looking forward to a banker's bonus! Sounds like a very sexy bike, though.
I was actually planning to hunt out this old thread again as finally... I have my Equilibrium build in my possession. It needs some tweaking as the indexing is way out (a little disappointing that a pro shop should send me off with the gears in such a state) and I'm not convinced I have made the right choice where bars are concerned, but so far I'm loving it (pics soon).
I just wanted to ask you Equilibrium guys how high you have the stem in relation to the top of the head tube. I know it's for me to decide what's best, but I'm just interested. As I had my frame built with the Black Rain forks from my Fratello there's a lot of steerer on there and the bike shop fitted spacers galore prior to me deciding how much I want cutting down. I chose the Equilibrium over another Fratello because I fancied a slightly more aggressive position. Interested to know what you lot do.0 -
I have about 30mm of spacers before the stock stem and the steerer is also stock. I like it where it is. However, if I lose the belly I'll probably go lower. Thighs slapping gut is not good for speed....--
