My thoughts are that Tyler is looking for some bumper publicity for his up and coming book deal. Shame really.

Yeah, nothing to do with a jail threat for lying.

Has anyone got a link confirming that he's got a book deal? The only source seems to be LA's spokesman.

Also, what he said, he said under oath. If it's not true, he can go down for that too...

    I hope so - it'll be a cracking read!

When asked if Lance would ever 'fess up, Lemond was adamant that he would not- it's just not in his character.
And the thought of him sitting on a couch with Oprah actually makes me feel quite queasy.

I'm struggling to contain feelings of physical violence towards McQuaid and his UCI buddies. Why can't they solemnly announce that they're going to appoint a committee to investigate the matter. At least then they would be seen to be doing something, even if such committees do nothing for 5 years. At the moment, they're making themselves look even sillier, which is saying something.

With the Swiss lab letter, I reckon we're just 1 step away from the IOC launching an investigation into corruption. Now I know that makes me laugh too, but if there is one thing the IOC dislike more than not having 19 year old Russian models available to wipe their backsides, it's being embarrassed.

Is it me, or does Tyler H look like the lovechild of Bill Gates and Dustin Hoffman?

    It's probably just me.

That statement from the UCI, cut and pasted from the statement they made about Landis with only the names changed, should be enough to get the entire top brass fired.

When not one but two riders, big names at that, make an accusation of that magnitude the very least you can do is look into it, rather than dismiss it out of hand.

That's good though, because as they can't be bothered to check it out maybe someone else will investigate.

PS - anyone seen the receipt for the Sysmex machine yet?

At the end of the 60 minute interview it's mentioned that he is writing a book.

Anyway, if you have spent your whole career having to justify (to yourself) doping, living with the fear of being caught and the threat of what will happen if you tell the truth then it's no surprise to feel a certain sense of relief when you can finally come clean. I would imagine writing a book would act as a good release.

As for the programme itself, well the Lausanne clinic letter is powerful enough that the UCI response is not going to cut it (by the way how can the be "shocked" to hear the allegations when they've already heard them last year?). Clearly the bio passport will be used as an example that things have moved on even if anything untoward may have happened back then, but if the story turns out to be correct what would it mean for the UCI?

Press release - UCI rejects allegations made by Tyler Hamilton

    23.05.2011

The UCI can only confirm that Lance Armstrong has never been notified of a positive test result by any anti-doping laboratory.

    UCI Press Office

Very, very interesting choice of words.....

yes I noticed that too, much in the Hincapie way of not saying certain things.

I've never paid much attention to the minutae of the drug notifications etc so please could someone explain, would the labs notify the riders directly or would they notify the UCI and/or Team Director in the first instance and let them notify the rider?

i am not a lance lover , and do not wear tinted glasses, but my point is that i got caught for taking drugs to help with my body building . thought i could lie my way out of it , but in the end i had to come clean . i new that many others were on the same drugs but for one reason or another never failed a test. but i never named names just took it on the chin and carried on. no respect for those 2 , and will floyd be paying back the $,s taken from his fans.

You're just like those 2 initially then, lied at first but got backed into a corner & had no option but to tell the truth.

who were you asked to name names to, and what were the consequences to you of not doing so?

These sort of things are spiders webs of statements and evidence and eye witness accounts. It'll be like a Ponzi scheme, building up to Armstrong at the pinnacle. The investigation will have built up evidence from the bottom of the pile and when they've finally sat down with the bigger names like these 2 and Hincapie, there'll already be a wealth of sworn evidence implicating them & pointing to LA that they could not simply lie or deny their way out of, so have been left with no option but spilling the whole unvarnished truth or guaranteed time as Mr Big's personal bitch on B wing.

They did what everyone else did to compete and I've no sympathy seeing them squirm but they're being victimised (if you know what I mean) far more than equally guilty european riders of equivalent status by accidents of were they were born & live and by their closer association with the biggest fish on the Feds list.

Personally, I think there may be one or two names above him, or at least on the same level. (Not as famous though).

Whose bigger than Pharmstrong in the world of cycling (or are you implying some other field perhaps)?

What I can't understand is that people still think he didn't dope ! Do these people really know how much extra endurance etc EPO gives you (10-15%).

With the likes of Pantani, Ullrich, Basso and others doping there is no way on earth normal training will yield that kind of extra oomph to compete. End of.

Well, if this goes down the fraud and other financial irregularities route then you're looking at the actual team owners. Armstrong may have been a (small) part owner and part of a conspiracy, but the actual money men are the likes of Thom Wiesel .

Maybe...................I know who he is, but your average joe doen't so it'd make a ripple in the media.

Why do you think the Tour of Cal has grown so big ? Big tex was saying a while ago that it rivalled the Giro as a stage race(which is plainly ridiculous as the Giro has an illustrios history which he wants to sweep away - what a guy). See - he's even talking up his own races...............................the guy wnats castrating before he controls ALL of cycling - then it really will be in trouble.

Just out of interest Sparky why didnt you name names? And having been caught out does the silence in the peloton make sense to you.

I suppose I'm asking did the allegiance of your sport mean more to you than how it was perceived from outside and do you reckon thats how Hamilton/Landis etc seen it?

it will be interesting to see if armstrong's celebrity, donations to charity, and weekend rides with george w bush will soften the blows.

And so far, Lance's advertisers are standing by him at least from the google news search stories. I guess that means the whoosh, Nike. Others too, I saw him in a Michelob Beer commercial, on tv and on the web. Basically just him among others enjoying a backyard type of party, nothing heavy, no scripted words.

I watched Panorama last night where they were investigating FIFA. A Swiss MP they interviewed said that all sports governing bodies based in Switzerland had to comply with new laws relating to "transparency", etc., by the end of the year, or they'd be asked to leave. I'm sure the UCI will be fully compliant with all the laws of the land, so it will be interesting to see what falls out if there is any legal shaking of their books.
