I am genuinely impressed by that! :)
You've not done badly at all, and it looks pretty neat aswell..
one question though; you got any idea what the weight on it is?...

I don't have a clue what the weight is but I think it's definitely lighter even though it's now more DH biased with a few choice sturdy components. At a guess it's probably rocking around 27lb from the 28lb it was from new.

Thanks for your kind words, guys. I'm over the moon with it now. I'm going to have to enter a DH race on it, I think 8)

After losing the chain quite often at the DH track which has resulted in 2 chain links literally twisted I'm looking into a chain retention device for it. I'm either going to go for a double up front with medium cage rear mech and a chain device like the e Thirteen Heim 2 or keep the triple and get an e Thirteen Heim 3RS.

I think I'm leaning towards the double as I've been thinking about it for a while but I completely forgot about it before. I could have actually implemented it when the whole new drivetrain went on.
  • That looks mint!

I think I've decided what I'm going to be going with..

    I'm sticking on:
    TA Specialites Chainrings 24/38
Straitline Bash Ring 12 Sided Blue 38-40T
SRAM X9 Medium Cage Rear Mech
    KMC X9SL Silver
    Blackspire Stinger BB Mount Blue

It's got to be running perfectly as I'm entering Round 4 of the 661 Gravity Enduro at Eastridge Forest on it. :D I might cut my bars down so they fit through the trees too  They're currently at 745mm wide but i might chop them to 720mm

I cut the bars down to 720mm today so I'll test it tomorrow. I've also ordered my X9 rear mech so I'll have an XT and X9 drivetrain with an SLX chainset so the spec is just getting better and better.
  • you going to enter DH race then?

What's funny about me entering a DH race on it? :?

I'm entering Round 4 of the 661 Gravity Enduro which is the red route at Eastridge Forest but you're only timed on certain stages, mainly downhill. I also want to enter a full on DH race too.
  • Hey mate from a fellow Carrera rider that bike of yours is mint! lot of money spent on it by the looks of it? can i ask something? Do you fit everything yourself?? or do you take it to your LBS?

Keep up the good work

yep, everything fitted myself except taking the old BB out as it was seized. If I got my LBS to fit it all then I'd have spent another couple hundred quid at least and not had my bike for a couple of weeks.

My 2X9 stuff has been ordered, bashring, new chainrings, new chain, chain device etc and I've already got an X9 Medium Cage Rear Mech. So is gonna be goooood. :D

In terms of personal preference, which would you say you prefer; the Gobi or the Bel Air. And what do you think are the strong points of each saddle :P
I ask this as I am on the verge of buying either one just now :)

    Cheers

This is all for my specific ass shape
Stock carrera Saddle: Instrument of torture
Charge Spoon: Still painful but better, tough build
Fizik Gobi: Comfier still, not perfect. Really fragile, cover rips/tears easily
SDG Bel Air RL Ti Rails: Really sturdy build with big kevlar scuff guard and the rest of the material is also very good. Comfiest so far and it's got Ti rails which because it's Ti=win

I've got everything go 2X9 except for the blackspire stinger. I'm just waiting for that. I've also ordered a Maxxis Minion DHF Single Ply 2.35 60A MaxxPro Folding (that was a bit of a mouthful) for my DH riding and the Gravity Enduro coming up. I've been having some DH coaching off of frequent Gravity Enduro podium visitor, James Green and it's going well. I've also been advised to slam the saddle for the stages. I'm going to chop some of the post off so it can go lower.

Evidently you guessed Halfords next move as the 2011 Fury will be 2x10 setup.

But it's still more of a XC/trail setup without a bashring or chain deivce. The longer I own it, the more it turns into an AM bike.

I've actually kinda scared myself now. I had to work out how much it's worth for the contents insurance and it's standing at around £1700 which is quite shocking. I only paid £370 for it orignally, look what it is now. That figure is paying full price for everything though.

Same here, payed just over £300 for my gt aggressor xc2 last year(reduced from £550). Ive ended up spending well over 3x the original cost just on upgrades!

    Naturally, just amused me.
I've managed to crack chunks off the guide between the pistons and pads on my rear brake after the pads fell out before the Manc-Blackpool

Insurance will only pay out for a like for like replacement, probably meaning if you paid £500 for the fury you will get £500 or less as a replacement unless you insure it as a separate item in its own right. as long as you have the receipts to back up what you have paid for it.

hmmm... I'm going to have a full list of everything on it and pics with it all too. That isn't enough then? I'll have to have a proper look through the policy.

Have you got the seatpost the wrong way round on purpose? Suppose it would be a lean-forward, not a lean-back!

Nice bike, though. Like the bars and stem.

Just given myself a massive facepalm, how was I such a twat that I didn't spot that. Thanks for pointing that out.

It's half past midnight but I can't stand a stupid mistake like that so I'm going straight out to sort it. (there's no facepalm emoticon so I'll do this instead)

Just have a chat with your insurance company and see what they say.
  • Fixed! I'm ashamed at myself for that.

can i ask how you got the bar ends of the superstars on?

The grub screw did not have anything to grip onto when i tried fitting mine,

i ended up supergluing the ends on in the end! they were a pain to fit!

Hehe, I had a very similar predicament and in the end I got bored of being patient with it and got a towel folded four times and whacked a hammer on it continuously until they were in properly.
The RH grip won't budge now but that should be fine until it's worn down :D.

Funnily enough this was only a problem on one side of the handlebars the other fitted like a dream :P

They fitted fine. Undo all the bolts, push it all on together and tighten up. simples
