"He's on his feet now, Contador on the front telling everyone to calm down and wait.

Sanchez is on his bike, getting a little push.

    Sastre has attacked."

Hmm, Contador stopping the peleton for Sanchez, but Sastre isn't interested. I guess he wants to catch the break? Hmm, unwritten rules once more - should he wait when he's not going to threaten GC? I reckon it's OK.

can't see his socks for his overshoes, it's cold over there. He's getting paced back to the peloton now.

contador plays ref: but Sastre carries on whilst all the peloton waits - heres an additional minute lead handed to the front group!

Yes OK that is the best one yet and no one is going to better it.

You win the prize of the biggest Wind Up Merchant anywhere. Well done.
someone has to try and de-throne you
Yes I must admit to being awarded the wooden spoon a couple of times in the past .

I almost put that "if" Lancy had won Paris-Nice you could be right but he has never finished that one because it gets too cold for him.
    So you win.

Contador's probably just trying to generate a bit of positive PR after Monday.

That is a situation where you would wait. No one was really racing, so you wait.

I read it in the unwritten rule book.

Harmon was pretty scathing of Sastre, but if his plan for the day is to get in the break I don't see why he shouldn't take advantage of Sanchez's fall. After all, Sanchez won't be at a disadvantage because of it.

It's in the addendum "New and Wimpier rules for racing"
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Is that before the "Top 15 is worth something" appendix?

There's been an amendment to that appendix, it's now top 18.

.........and still Dennis hasn't come down in this race..........

Some talk about them grounding the helis.

Will be a bummer, if this stage goes the same way as the Gavia Giro stage.............

........Surely, the amendment to that appendix, should read top 25?

with the breakaway over 8 minutes clear, one thing seems certain now - Charteau wins this year's polka dot jersey

Sastre on his own now, around 4 minutes behind the break... a lot of energy expended if he doesn't make it but then he'll be on the climb soon

Re rule re waiting was, I thought, specifically targetted at the yellow jersey, not wait for anyone because they've hit a problem, that is takign it to extremes.
Earned yellow jersey = earned extra respect ?
Sastre isn't a threat to the overall at all anyway which is what Sanchez is aiming at, I guess Sastre is hoping to get up to the break for the stage win, not hoping to take tons of time from Sanchez.
Re Contador : good PR plus he's fellow Spaniard (I know, so is Sastre but he has 'other fish to fry' as Duffers would say).

Sastre not making much progress towards the break
