Its so good to be back on the bike Dont get me wrong I love being at home with Little Toe and it breaks my heart when I have to leave him in the morning.

but after last weeks false start (thanks Mr Mondeo), its nice to put a few back to back commutes together.

Heck, I might even see if I can get out for a club run this weekend.

Evans replaced the tyre that split around the beading (see rants page) last night. Took a little bit of persuasion, but it was dealt with nicely so I'm happy. Thought that they were were good good feedback

Last night I was riding along Cavendish Road in Dirty SLondon going towards Clapham Common and I could smell petrochemicals quite strongly. I could make out that beautiful rainbow sheen on the road of spilt/dripping/leaking oil for about half a mile going towards Clapham Common and was being extra careful. Despite this there were a couple of times where I lost traction on the back wheel.

I filtered up the outside of the traffic as I approached the red traffic lights and what would be a 90º turn to the left and then a 90º turn to the right. When the lights changed to green I moved off tentatively (not a time for applying the awesome) and started to turn left and felt the front wheel washing away from under me.

Somehow I managed the stay upright through my Danny MacAskilesque bike handling skillz and balance.

I rode the rest of the way home feeling awesome, but being very careful.

Good news Roger, pleased to hear it.
My anti rant is that for the first time this year it wasn't completely dark riding home through Bushy Park. Slightly linger days with thinner cloud cover meant it wasn't completely black in there.
    Spring will soon be here.

Left work early today - 15:30 first commute home in the sunshine and without the aid of lights. even had dark tinted lenses. Shame the rest of the week is meant to be back to rain.

Yes my wife was saying it wasn't quite totally dark which is nice!

Bagged 8 hours overtime for Tuesday which not only means 8 hours pay for a rest day but means more miles for the week, usual for a rest day is to do just that.

Woke up this morning to the sound of rain ...

Wife said it wasn't a nice day to be riding ...

Checked rain alarm and could see a little window of opportunity ...

Got up and got ready for riding ... still raining ...

Had breakfast ... still raining ...

Brushed my teeth ... still raining ...

Put my waterproof trousers on ... still raining ...

Put my shoes on ... oo ... stopped raining ... :)

Rode to work and not a single drop of rain ...

fast time too due to the tailwind ... :D

Still got wet - boil in a bag trousers are not nice ... :(

    Good ride :)

Forgot to mention this earlier. I had a very strange voicemail message this morning some bloke was asking for me by name saying they weren't sure if I was the right person to talk to but he would like some help in tracing the parents of his brother's daughter and could I call him back. I couldn't call him back to tell him he should ask his brother as he didn't leave a number.
Very odd, but it made me chuckle.

Nice run in as there seemed to be a gap in the weather. Enjoyable in almost every way!

Was the call to your mobile or a landline? If it was to your mobile, the call log should have the number. Ask your son to help, old man!

BTW, I know the fork I gave you was no use, but did you find a suitable replacement?

No, it was on my work landline.
Yes, thank you. After much more faffing. Got some off Ebay that had a long enough steerer, but when I fitted them the brake drop was huge so I would have had to buy new brakes and it would have looked really odd with the tight clearance at the back. Then found another set that fitted and had the right sort of drop. So it's been back together for about a month now and he is a very happy chappy. Well happy by the standards of a monosyllabic 15 year old.

Counting down the minutes to lunch and I find James May is on Sarah Walker's show on R3 and they are playing Beathoven's 9th in full. That should see me through.

  • Nice weather for a bike ride, so went into bushy park on the older mtb that has panniers and all sorts of sensible stuff now. Glorious skyes and did almost 5 miles in around a hr with my wife who isn't quite able to let me out of sight yet!

Worked out a route to go to work by bike though that's probably a month or so off yet, at least.

Bought a PAYG Oyster thing for 2 days I was in London, started with £10 balance and topped up at a ExCel machine but the person in front hadn't tapped their card to add the balance so the transaction timed out and £5 cash payment returned into my grateful hands.

Did you use your Oyster to get the cable car from the end of the dock by the Excel centre? Then use it again to get the boat back to civilisation.
  • Mail from the Olympic Velodrome: "We can offer your club a a session on X from Y until Z". Fun!

2 day working week for me. Wife's birthday on Wednesday so that could prove an expensive day out. Our daughter wants to go to the Science Museum as some point, not sure what else we'll do. Might take the boy to Swinley.

There was an announcement on the DLR as we approached the north end of the cable car that the service had been 'suspended'. We thought the pun was unintentional.

I would have preferred it to be quite a bit lower. Being a bit of an idiot I like cable cars, but I'm not keen on heights so tend to be somewhat conflicted. As you go up on the cable car from one end of the Victoria Dock you look back along it's length and realise that you are in the flightpath for London City Airport as you are perfectly in line with the runway at the other end of the dock.

Yes first time I went was with work supporting someone who was fine, but we where sharing with a couple the BF really didn't like heights much to his gf amusement.
