New road bike arrived last night
Rode it to work this morning and smashed 6 out of 7 Strava segments with new personal bests.
And we're still just getting to know each other, looking forward to the next few weeks.0 -
^^ Nice work indeed!
Head full of fluff and rubbish at the moment. Got out for a ride on some new roads and all is well with the world again. Happy days...FCN 3 / 40 -
Another slightly longer ride earlier in the week. Did 20 miles before deciding to quit while I was ahead, again at a low HR. The knee is a little achey again, but most definitely improving.
I found out yesterday that the driver will be being sent on a "Driver Alertness Course", which IMO is fair enough. She was nice enough at the scene after the collision, which happened because of dimness rather than any malice. If she'd been a pain about it or tried to blame me then I'd have pushed for points instead, but "look where your going, now give us £50" will do.0 -
Absolutely pee'd down on my way home last night. Some clown in a Golf thought it was hillarious to drive through a huge puddle soaking me in the progress. Shoes still damp for this mornings ride in.
Why in anti-rants?
I stopped off on my way home to see Kat Copeland show off her gold medal. In amongst the ceremony with lots of 'suits & chains' keen on the sound of their own voices, it was great to see Kat get down with the kids in the pouring rain to pose for pictures. Makes you proud.Nobody told me we had a communication problem0 -
tailwind...all the way to freakin work!
i was hold 30mph until i had to stop at the "anti-fun" gates on the track
marvelous

This morning - 11 months, 2 weeks and 4 days after I first started commuting to the station by bike - I passed my 1000th commuting mile. And I feel fantastic about it.
I know I am a minnow in a pool of carp on this forum, but it's a massive achievement for me.
The next 12 months have a plan which has already started of selling stuff on eBay to fund something aluminium framed with carbon forks, and goes on to building up mileage gradually, including some evening and weekend rides so that by the time the clocks go forward next spring I will be able to make the full 44 mile round trip into the office on two wheels, and by June will be able to cycle from home to Shap in one go (c. 70 miles) in preparation for the London 100 ride that I have foolishly signed up for in August.
I realise that my plan may need a little fleshing out, but these are some of my milestones so far, and I am relishing the challenge.0 -

Dealyed at work so late leaving to hear the words "Oh you should be okay getting home if you hurry... you might beat the rain"
NOOOOOOOOooooooo...oooooooOOOOOO!
Cursed!
Watching the clouds getting closer and closer. Not to mention blacker and blacker.
Get home, still dry. Get in, put on shoes to grab wheelie bin from the end of the drive, walking back up the drive with the bin and it starts to to rain.
Seriously.
1 minute later... then the skies just opened and there was thunder and lightning and a right window rattler hour or so.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Was bimbling around West Bridgford after swapping my saddle for the Charge Spoon I bought. Got caught in that and got properly wet.

Black cab pulled up next to me in a long line of bikes at the lights on Embankment off Parliament Square. Leaned out of his window and pointed at the motorbikes and scotters who had encroached the ASL ahead of us and said "Something should be done about those lot in your cycle area. I much prefer you guys up front and out of the way, instead of having you alongside my cab at the lights".
All very friendly with a big grin.
Hopefully the rise in cycling mean cabbies, truck drivers etc are becoming more cycle aware??Black Specialised Sirrus Sport, red Nightvision jacket, orange Hump backpack FCN - 7

First bike commute in THREE MONTHS ( ) due to injuries sustained in a close encounter with a badly driven Clio.
I took it very easy and I've still got some niggling pain, but it's getting better.
I can't explain how much I've missed the bike. It was a pleasant commute too, dry, no wind, traffic wasn't bad and I stopped and rescued a fellow biker who was looking stuck at the roadside with a jammed/mangled chain 10 miles from home.

After a year and a half of not commuting by bike, and barely riding at all (getting used to working, living in London etc) I set myself a target of 3,000km for this year in January.
I've already met it . Pleased.0 -

After numerous attempts at curing an annoying rattle on my bike I've cured it Checked and double checked and triple checked the pannier mounting bolts, mudguards, wheelnuts, tensioners etc and the culprit turned out to be the tension on my SPDs. Since increasing it a little the noise has gone. How long for is another matter but at present I've got a silentish bike.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

This Paralympics business. Just absolutely extraordinary. The other Olympics were good but these are stunning. Absolutely stunning.0

Getting a bit more serious about my riding and testing out a few local clubs to see where the best fit is.
Did the Sunday club ride with one (a little concerned as on turning up I found that it was going to be longer and faster than I had anticipated). 53 miles at an average of a hairs breadth under seventeen mph on a hilly (or 'tumpy' as I was informed) route and I survived. Loads left in the legs, but the heart rate went a bit screamy at times (as did the lungs). Still, survived!
Got home, ate an enormous sandwich washed down with a bottle of Perlenbacher and went to bed for an hour. I think I was still panting when I woke up!FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits

To the motorcycle cop who picked of the RLJer (fixie messenger) as he passed through the lemming/sheep ped fest that is the crossing outside Charing Cross station on the Strand, I was a bit irked when he jumped the red light without the blues and twos flashing, but he took the stealth approach to stopping the messenger.
Well done that man. To you I doth my helmet.

What a beautiful day for commuting. Fitted new Conti 4 28mm Four Seasons to the soon to be retired Marin hybrid last night. What a wonderful difference to the knobbly old factory tires - on the downside the mudguards now look comically oversized! Flew down embankment (by my woeful standards). I love cycling to work and am getting quite excited about the new bike (Boardman CX)...Kinesis Racelite 4s disc
