I think I'll be in the same office as Wrath Rob and that is only going to hurt on the commutes.
    Where's that?

    Still coming from Charlton-ish way?

I'm a bit further SE than I used to be but broadly the same direction. Heading to the city.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Rant: I think I'll be in the same office as Wrath Rob and that is only going to hurt on the commutes.

It's going to hurt him, having some competition from the moment he leaves work.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Oh no. Not with my conspirator belly which has massively reduced my power per kilo having not really ridden for the last year. Note to self, when you get off in JOG for the second time it doesn't mean you can not get back on for a year....

  • I cycled to work for the first time in about a year this morning. A glorious 18 miles.

It used to be 10 miles, but then I moved in with my girlfriend (now fiance) who lives further away and I didn't fancy the extra mileage. I was wrong, very very wrong. The 18 miles is a good ride from south west Notts to Mansfield, although not as scenic as it used to be.

I was at the Hospital last week and had a student nurse sitting in on my appointment and we got talking about cycling to work, I said I ride 10 miles each way which she thought was good but work colleagues still think is too far, then the DSN, I had the appointment with, said a few weeks back we all rode 15 miles, that was herself and husband and 4 year old son.

Being able to ride 30 miles relatively pain-free after the poxiest of knee problems in the past two months is very, very pleasing. Being able to do it through the leafy Surrey countryside, watching it get less leafy on a brisk autumn morning is even more pleasing. Having a commute without a single numpty try to kill me... Unheard of!

  • For the past 3 years, I've given up cycling by the end of September and ended up back sitting in traffic.

This year i've managed (so far) to keep going and have done more miles in October than in most other months this year. :D Bring on November!

Cycling home yesterday in the dark and rain, and few cars on the road - Half term bliss.
And because of less cars, less dangerous driving in general - in fact, nearly all drivers gave me a huge amount of room - so much so, I really enjoyed the ride - the light rain keeping my temp "just right".
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

Successfully disassembled and swapped out the rear wheel bearings for the first time yesterday! 8)

I'd done the front wheel previously, but the rear was a bit more daunting (plus I didn't have the rights tools), but got it done yesterday, and was easier than I expected.

Rode in today and the bike didn't fall to pieces under me either - bonus!

    Love it!

Can't wait for my little rider to get one .... well - actually I don't want the time to fly by, but still - you know what I mean!

Yeah that's what I thought - I've been slowly building my collection. The bike's stuff even has it's own tool box now as well! :)

Anti rant - black cab that moved slightly left to let me filter right this morning
Anti rant - Porsche Cayenne who delayed his V8 charge from the lights by Buck Pal to let me merge this morning
Anti rant - driver who flashed me across busy Wood Lane junction this morning
Anti rant - Suzuki 750cc rider on Bayswater Road who popped a 200yd wheelie - dumb but have to say pretty impressive

Despite the traffic lights being horrendous, to quote Ice Cube, 'today was a good day'

...and I have a 3 day weekend to look forward to...

  • Keys to new house picked up last night. Extra 20mins added to my commute.

  • Thanks to Saddleback who helped source a Bont Vaypor buckle to repair the pair my wife bust up in her accident a while back. Vaypors now back in business. Contrast with the utter uselessness of the FSA importers Windwave who've been singly unhelpful with my FSA crank issues. Will be buying Bont again and avoiding FSA.

My anti-rant is that i'm actually getting fit enough to perversely enjoy the headwind journey home! (although didn't much like nearly being blown into passing traffic in the dark once i got out into the Cambridgeshire countryside!)

Got an email from the LBS who were replacing a spoke and truing my wheel on Wednesday so I walked up there this morning to collect it and as soon as I picked it up I spotted an almighty bulls up straight away. A silver spoke in a wheel where the other 31 spokes are black.
Their excuse was it was all we had in stock and wanted to get you back on the road asap.

Email from them again this morning, collected 10 minutes later with a black spoke and no charge.

oo .. nice round number ...

Only on 4700 ish - so 5k will be achievable - not worried as effectively stopped riding so much in June with the arrival of Slowbike Junior .. although, he's already done a fair few miles in his trailer .... I really must set him up on Strava .... ;)

  • Cycled into work again. 18 miles each way from South west Nottingham to Mansfield.
I will get back to my old fitness levels one day!

It's quite warm at the moment, until the weekend if the weather forecast is to be believed
