  • Lookin lovely, only the grips are botherin me a bit now. Not sure they really suit the bike properly, but I think the same grip color with maybe gold lockrings and some new gold bar end protectors, and that would be just about perfect.

I'd race with what you're used to, wouldn't fit flats just for racing. I've been using risers on my race bike for a couple of seasons.

Some Egg Beater 11s would suit the colour scheme :-)

the risers do feel great but i also miss my barends and running barends on risers is a lot like french kissing your own sister. the new generation of wide flat bars also feel nice. the fsa k-force ones i have are 620mm long yet weigh a very good 116grams. the ritchey bar im running is a very low rise so not a million miles away from a flat bar. the crank bros 11,s are a sweet pedal but i had the 4ti,s and was not impressed with their longevity, the wings got slack after not long, im running the sl body on a ti axle, only 30 grams heavier but i dont get that dull click in feeling i got with the full ti pedals. ive also got a pair of xtr clipless i may stick on for general dicking about duties. ive gotta say though, the combination of the transfil black snake cables fitted with middleburn oilers and filled with tf2 spray is giving me the smoothest lightest friction free shifting ive ever had and ive tried every cable on the market near enough. leaving the enigma for a while as im gonna tart my road bike up with a load of new shiny bits. having said that ive just ordered a titanium flat bar for the ego

after weighing myself at the gym tonight i find myself piling on weight again due to my weight lifting fetish, im approaching 18 stones so common sense has to kick in with regards to my bike. im going to swap the ti stem to my road bike and replace it with a thomson x4, the ritchey wcs risers are being swapped with a titanium flat bar. gonna stick the charge knife on my road bike and stick the charge spoon leather/ti saddle back on and swapping the ti axled egg beaters to a pair of xtr spd,s. ive already swapped my wheels back to the roval traversees and ive fitted a sram pg980 cassette so i dont ruin the xtr one in the nasty conditions. will put my bikes lightweight clothes back on when i diet down. if im honest, when i was out sunday i didnt feel confident on the bike and was scared to ride it as hard as i normally would. the changes ive made will make a big difference to the durability and i wont sh1t myself every time i head downwards.

Or... Stop lifting weights, eat better and go faster on the bike!

i eat very well indeed just large quantities, tried to stop weight training but its more addictive than pimping bikes. i enjoy both pursuits equally but i know the weight training kills my cycling especially long climbs. im rapidly heading towards 40 and know i cant keep both up at my present intensity and cycling will probably win in the end but whilst i still see improvements in the gym its hard to stop.

ok here are my latest changes to the ego. stuck the roval traversees back on with tubeless bontrager xr2 team issue tyres and a sram 980 cassette, gonna save the lightweights and xtr cassette for summer. upfront ive stuck my old nth degree cnc stem back on with a pair of sunline v-one low rise bars. ive made a pair of lock on grips out of kcnc foam grips, odi collars and the inner part of a cheap lock on grip. i basically slid the foam grips onto the plastic core using glue. they feel great and weigh a lot less than standard lock ons. changed the ti post for an easton ec70 and also stuck a fsa carbon/leather ti saddle on too. im using an exotic cycles dual seat clamp that clamps both post and frame so my fat ass wont make the post slip. made these changes so i can hammer the bike without fear of anything breaking, only went mad with the lightweight stuff to see how light i could get it, still weighs just over 22lbs so not bad but now it feels more solid
