Weight: 21.8 official

Other info: made quite a few changes . bike is very light yet very smooth over the bumps. the roval wheels are very strong but very light too. changing the wheels and tyres has saver over a pound in weight. the moto v2 front brake caliper may seem a strange choice but it works perfectly with the mono lever and the complete brake including lever, caliper and hose weighs the same as the mono mini rear set up, the weight of the hose makes up for the difference. i also made a completely sealed gear cable system like avid flak jackets using some old avid ferrules i had knocking around and some black heat shrink tubing. sounds daft but looks and performs brilliantly
will update pics later on :? :?

not sold the ragley yet still wondering if i should split it up or sell it whole. andy if you think the gold hoses look hideous you want to see what it looked like on my first attempt, i fitted a set of red alligator i-links gear cables that looked more pink than red and a set of red hoses that looked orangey pinkish, the hoses look alot better in the flesh , but as always i will tinker until i make a classy looking bike look like gypsies caravan

Really nice, I do however agree on the cabling ;) nice and plain black hose, and a plain black bashguard.... apart from that superb!!! :)

if i wanted it to look classy id listen to you guys
but the cables/hoses look a lot more subtle in the flesh, the camera flash reflected badly and made it look almost bright yellow.

    nice!

i went down the xc route with mine (although the cranks are quite heavy..) only got it a couple of weeeks ago

just put some sids on it, they are great, just trying to decide wether to go 1x9 and how to...

mine weighs 22.4 with the sids, and 20.6 with some rc31 ctypes on (which is 600g more than the weights of all the bits.......weird)

how do you rate the ride?

shes not had a proper thrashing yet, im off to wales on sun. first impressions are good though, i could go alot lighter but im quite a big guy so i need a bit of strength in there. got mine set up edging towards a trail bias although with a swap of tyres, saddle, post and pedals it would be a fully fledged xc bike. just stuck a pair of crank bros 4ti pedals and a titanium rail fizik gobi saddle on that i forgot i had, think i might stick a k-edge chain guard on aswell. yours looks very light indeed ,how do you find it ?

just bought a pair of roval traversee wheels and a set of lightweight alligator ti nitrided disc rotors. should knock a fair bit of weight off the bike plus they are wider and stronger and a safer bet as im quite heavy. will udate pics when new bits are fitted

ha ha ha yep thats me guilty as charged although maybe i was riding so fast that my hoses appeared yellow instead of the deep and lustrous gold they actually are. the fact that xt brakes are such arse to bleed means the gold is staying. i think in time people will learn to love them

rides really nice. climbs as good as any bike ive owned and handled ok on the black bits. been a while since ive had an xc type bike and im glad ive got another one. ive just swapped the dropper post for a very light titanium one. when my new wheels turn up its gonna be seriously light yet solid. thinking of swapping the xt brakes for something lighter and also might treat myself to a nice light chainset

ok ok i give in ha ha ive got rid of the offending gold/yellow hoses and cables and also got rid of the bash guard and added an outer ring to take advantage of the speed i should get up to. new wheels and tyres are on along with a different chainset and brakes. thats it finished now im not gonna change anything for a good while now unless i break something.

i did some soul searching and realised it was criminal to bling up such a classy frame so i de-blinged to a safe yet tasteful level. just seen some fox f32,s in titanium grey 120mm travel 15mm thru axle. my front wheel can be converted to take them but im wary of ruining the handling although i may just get away with an extra 20mm at the front. what do you think ?

dunno about that, its perfect with 100mm forks on, anymore might make it twitchy

    i somtimes run 80mm rigids

    a75e74ad.jpg
    83fea046.jpg

thats abit low at the front, i reckon 100mms perfect

ive decided to keep it 100mm , ive just come from using 160mm lyriks so i need to adapt a bit. ive kinda gone full circle, i started out with a titanium hardtail then went through many different bikes, some good some bad but now im back to where i started and loving it. the ego feels great, i can fly up climbs and the handlings great on the downs. ive got it under 23lbs without going for any silly light components, it feels solid beneath me yet very comfy even with 2.0 tyres.

Think you made the right choice when you modified the kit, it looks brilliant now. Think my next bike, when i can afford it, will be a titanium hardtail and i love the look of the egos.

interestingly i,ve just measured the axle to crown measurement on the rebas fitted and a pair of fox f32 120mm forks and the difference is about 3mm so i reckon i can fit a pair of the fox 120,s without messing with the handling one bit plus i will have a more capable bike. anyone want to purchase a pair of reba teams with pushloc 100m immaculate used twice ha ha ha

ok i took the plunge and got a pair of fox f32 remote rl,s in black with 15mm thru axle. they are 120mm travel but as ive mentioned the axle to crown distance is only 3 or 4 mm longer than the reba team 100mm forks fitted so i should be able to hammer a bit more with confidence without losing the lightweigh xc feel. got to wait for the 15mm coverters for my roval hubs to turn up. looking forward to trying them out. the main reason for getting rid of the rebas is the fact i have to pump them up to silly levels for them to work with my body weight but the foxes only need 125 psi in one valve as opposed to the 175psi ive had to put in the positive and negative valves on the rebas. dont get me wrong the reba is a fantastic fork, very adjustable, light and stiff as hell but i fear long term longevity with such high pressures. big thanks to the staff at je james,s in sheffield for sorting me out after a bit of a mix up
