Tbh his mmmbop looked a hell of a lot nicer than your £3k titanium thing. It won bike of the year!

  • Is this where I'm meant to say o sorry mr moderator, or is it where I call you a complete cunt for even bothering to point that simple spelling mistake out.

i feel i have matured in recent years and the enigma is an extension of that maturity. i feel i have reached a point in my life where my bicycle should reflect the inner me.

i managed to build my wheels over the weekend and here they are. not as light as predicted but still under 1500grams just. not bad for £131. i ended up using longer brass nipples so i could build them nice and tight, they still feel hideously light to pick up. not going to bother running these tubeless, instead im going to run some supersonic tubes and i fancy trying some 450gram 1.95 kenda small block 8,s as i have heard a lot of good things about them and the 1.95 come up pretty wide. in total with just the wheel and tyre swap plus new rotors and light ti rear skewer i will save 415grams so nearly a full pound off my bike for less the £200

ok the weight bug has bitten and i have ordered some new bits. 2x foss polyurethane innertubes, 2x kenda small block 8,s 1.95, 2x ashima air rotors 180mm. a set of 620mm fsa k-force carbon flat bars, a pair of kcnc barends and some carbon plug for both the bars and barends and finally a pair of kcnc eva grips. all these bits along with the wheels will knock a chunk of weight off the bike. i fancied trying some wide flat bars and bar ends as i used to love using them back in the day and i think they will suit the bike. if i dont like them i can always stick the risers back on.
    old rotors new rotors
    127g x2 96x2
    old grips new grips
    130g 12g
    old bar plugs new plugs
    43g 8g
    old bar new bar
    170g 126g
    old tyres new tyres
    615x2 450x2
    old wheels new wheels
    1640g 1485g
    old sealant new tubes and
    valves and tape rimtape
    80g x2 120g x2
    kcnc bar ends
    46g a pair
    old total new total
    3627g 3009g
    total saved 618grams 1.36lbs
    new bike weight should be
    20.34lbs
depending on my wheel building skills this could be a very rideable bike for its given weight, the rim strength is the only part that worries me the rest of the spec is solid imo. a few years back i rode similar wheels pretty hard with no aggro but i was a couple of stone lighter. if all my bits turn up during the week i will take the bike out and give it a good thrashing with all the new bits on to see if im worrying for nothing. by changing the headset and the saddle i could touch the 20lbs mark but as mentioned previous i love the charge spoon, a compromise could be a charge knife which is 40 grams lighter. in fact sod it im just going to order a charge knife and a kcnc radiant r3 headset this very moment byeeeeeeeeee

ok ive just ordered the knife saddle £39.99 from evans and a kcnc radiant r3 headset from readytoride cycles for a very low £59.99, over £100 everywhere else. the 80 grams i save with these two changes leave my bike just a few grams over 20lbs although ive just remembered ive not taken off the 30 grams i will save swapping my rear skewer, once i have it all together i will slap it on the scales to see how close i am. on a lighter note i have just re-read alot of what ive written here and being honest i need to get a life and possibly a violent kicking would do me no harm either. i really am a sad individual. :?

got the tyres and tubes today and mounted them on the wheels and they look fantastic and feel lighter than a light thing. the foss tubes look interesting, they are clear blue thermoplastic with anodised blue valve stems. very light at 115grams each and they supposedly form a seal around anything that punctures them. time will tell if they are any good but they do look cool and seem more substantial than supersonic tubes. just waiting for the headset, saddle, and new cockpit gear also the ashima rotors.

all the bits have turned up this morning apart from the head set so im going to be a busy boy. will stick some pics up when done, will even get a pic of the digital scales with my bike hanging from them for njee,s benefit and so he does not doubt me a will get a local priest to stand next to my bike as it is weighed. if thats not enough for him i will ask jesus to verify although i will have to shave his beard off to make him appear more trust worthy.

Very nice, why the plug in the axle on the drive side? Bar ends should be at the same angle as the stem too.

the plug looks cool and adds a bit of colour to quite a sweet but dreary chainset. my bar ends are set up to the specification of my body shape. you keep telling me to have my controls and contact points to your standards but at the end of the day we are all very different shapes and sizes. i get on my bike and it feels perfectly tailored to me, ive been riding and building bikes since the late 80,s and tried every set up i can think of, sometimes getting it very wrong but now im happy with my current set up.

the postal fairy paid me a visit this morning with a nice bit of headset porn. after cleaning myself up i took some pics. she lay there wide open whilst i snapped away. more impressive than the headset itself is the fact it came in an anodised alloy gold box. stunning piece of kit for the money.

My bar end comment was very tongue in cheek, and perhaps would've benefitted from a smiley. Calm yourself. Nice weight too, I swear my scales must over-weigh stuff!

i wasnt having a go just stating facts with words
just got the headset on and very nice it looks and feels too, only weighs 69grams inc topcap and bolt. also stuck a gold kcnc seat clamp on which i had tying around to complement the headset. taken the flats off and put the risers back on. will but the flat bars back on if i decide to do a race or two later this year. also stuck a pair of blue grips on which actually look nice. to be honest its starting to look like elton johns crimbo tree again so i better calm down before i ruin it.
