Contemplating a new car...

That's it though, I've driven an X, nice as it was, it's just not what I need, far too much car for me. A non-evo, hatchback model sounds much more up my street. The ralliart ones come with the 4wd system so that's the ones I'd be looking at.0

My total parent contribution through my 3 years at Uni? £60.
I was a spoilt rich kid in Surrey - posh school, ski holidays, all the toys, etc despite my parents best efforts to keep us grounded. Then we moved to Cornwall, the recession hit, dad lost a stack of cash and we became pretty skint - that lasted many many years. So although it was tough, we had the "privilege" of seeing both sides of life - rich and poor.
I think that kids that only ever see the rich side of life are unbalanced. They are over opinionated. They are patronising. They are selfish. I know because I've seen both sides and know exactly what we are dealing with here with Miss Marple.
Unless you see both sides of life you cannot possibly judge anything.
Anyway enough of this. We pitched for a three year contract this morning and just found out we have won it - WOOO HOOO!!!0 -

Personally, I'd prefer the EVO to come out in the hatch-back version. I think it's a much nicer shape than the saloon.0 -

What about surfing? Plus, you seem to get more and more irrate with each passing thread! Not to mention you're a 30+ man with a family, and you're arguing with a relatively immature 18 year old boy.....
I really don't understand this. I can't see anyone getting irate tbh. But I don't see why you're so proud of the fact that you're 'only' 18. :?
Not that there's anything wrong with it, I just don't see why it's even worth mentioning that someone is having a conversation with you. the flip side of it is that matt's having a conversation, and you're arguing.
mrfmilo is only 13 isn't he. Doesn't mean we all ignore him!0 -
bigchazrocks wrote:missmarple wrote:See, looks as if you've backfired here. You're missing the point mate and nor did you answer my question re private schools. I chose to get a flying licence instead of go to a private school, because I had the choice. Call me what you will, and call all the other teenagers spoilt too. Your post 'reeks' of old-manism, move on lav.
I'm only 21, so I'm certainly not an old man. I don't often get riled, but spoilt kids are one thing that does rub me the wrong way.
See, as I see it (and probably a few others here) you are jaded, and think that you aren't spoilt, as you know of super super rich folks, who have literally acres of land, and tens of exotic and expensive cars. So when Mummy and Daddy 'only' have a 5 bed house on a new estate, drive all kinds of Merc's, Jag's and Alfa's - opposed to living in a mansion and driving Ferrari's and Lambo's - you think you come from a 'normal' family. Wrong!!!
FFS, in your helmet cam video footage, there's a Bentley (I think) about 20 secs into the vid.... You live in a very expensive area.
So when you say you chose flying over a private school (as about 99.999% of kids would if they had a choice) and say you HAVEN'T been spoilt, it sounds ridiculous. And 'all the other teenagers' who live by you, on ''Millionares row'' are probably spoilt little rich kids too. Move out of your super posh estate and go take a look at some real working class familes. Chances are they aren't spoilt.
And just because you can't financially support yourself through university, and need Mummy and Daddy's cash, does not mean everyone relies on family. Three of my best friends are at uni, and work to pay bills, tutition fees and food. And of course beer
Those that couldn't afford it, haven't gone. They plan to work a few years, save some cash, then go as an older student. Or whatever it's called.
And ''Move on lav'' - what does this even mean....?????
Chaz, I can fully appreciate where you're coming from and understand all of those who have a different perspective on life to me; and believe me I know how lucky I am - I am better off thanks to my parents, they had the oppurtunities so they've given me the oppurtunities - is that a crime? I think not.
I know what the real world is like, nearly every one of my old school friends lives in a council house, so its not as if I'm living in my own little bubble and can't fatham the ability to understand other's plights with 'rich kids'. I've revealed that information to prove a point, nothing more, nothing less - I do not like to boast as this is what it brings about and rightly so.
And for the record, I work in a shop on Saturdays and run a web development business in the meantime, I try to support myself as much as financially possible - but wouldn't you take whats given to you if it's there?
Please don't get the impression that I don't wholey appreciate how lucky I am to be in this situation! People like SurfMatt (no offence) really get on my tits, have you never had ambition? My half-brother had an ambition from an early age, my parents couldn't afford private school, let alone a semi-detached house back then yet he still made it to where he wanted to be. I'm sure those of you who have had an ambition from an early age understand exactly what I mean, and will have made sacrifices for that.0 -

See my previous post Matt, I don't want this to turn into a Hay Bail argument of sorts - I'm just trying to explain myself! You'll see I have experienced both 'wealthy' and 'not so wealthy' and I appreciate I'll be arrogant to the fact of the latter.0 -

Theres a thought El Cap, why not go for one of the Newer shape Imprezza hatchbacks. 4wd, smaller than the Forrester. You can go all WRX if you want to too.0 -

Ambition?!
Do you think we bought a BMW (yes that BMW) 335d outright for cash without any AMBITION?
Man we have MADE IT - the car speaks for itself...
Barking up the wrong tree there MissM - once again. We have realised every ambition we ever had and many we didn't even know we had. Now run along - Dad said he wanted his Merc washed by 4pm - he needs it clean to take you to the golf club...

What he's saying is that he owns his own succesfull business, and with his foresight, created a company that did so well, he was able to have the 'spare' CASH in order to buy outright a new / nearly new top-flight Beemer.
You can't build such a success without ambitions...Boo-yah mofo
Sick to the power of rad

If that is the 'point', then why did he mock me regarding the choice of flying lessons instead of a private school? Eh? It's just so pathetic that he discounts someone elses opinion completely, isn't that right Matt?
I mean, I may well be wrong - you may well be a bluddy nice bloke out on the street, but on here you act like a right arrogant c*nt - just like myself I may add.0 -
And you are more middle aged than I thought.
Chaz - I hope you spotted the arrogant BMW owner pi55 taking too (just in case you didn't)...?!0 -
There are no winners here. Not climber, not sprinter, not rouleur0

my question is..........
how many pages do i need to go back to determine who funded the flying lessons?
MM or his parents?
on the point of ambition i guess he is showing some by investing in his future by learning to be a pilot whether it be commercial or not.
There are no real winners here.
Anyway El Capitano..........back on topic......where the fark have you been hiding and what car gives you goose pimples?

It is indeed towards a commercial pilot's licence. The parents have paid for the PPL, which at some point I'll have to pay them back for once I'm out of debt and have a solid job. Which I think is completely fair in all honesty, 'wealthy' or not.0 -

Sorry to hear that mate, who is it? Milkman? Your best mate? HER best mate :shock:0 -
fair shout, as musc as it is a blessing to have parents help out, i am pretty sure they have raised you in the right manor and expect once you pass with distinction and start earning the £ you will repay them in full.
Well thats what i'd do to you and i am sure your upstanding enough to repay your parents in full.
job done

so, MM had the chance to choose between private school or flying lessons?
who the hell find themselves with these opportunities?? as a 17 year old i was in the army and got to choose between being punched in the head or punched in the gut every time i made a mistake.
i always chose gut and learned quickly to stop doing things wrong.
as for cars, hmmmm i would have to recommend something like this:
suzuki sx4 perhaps

Me? Uber busy at work and having physio at lunchtimes. Daughter's had a major operation, so we're looking after the grandkids - so not much spare time ATM.
What car gives me goose pimples? There's a couple - 1935 Bugatti T59 or a Ford Falcon V8 (see Mad Max film for details...) Both nice, neither of the practical, but both make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck...0 -
El Cap, would you like to post another thread, so I can then rename this one to what it has turned into?!0

I echo Bail's sentiments about your daughter El Cap.
Let us know your thoughts on the car - be keen to hear what you test and decide on.0 -
