I was sort of half watching it, that guy at the end must have been pished when he got over took meters from the finish lol.

Yeah, he was lying second most of the way round and Absolon stayed at third till the last lap, the guy who came third (Standor) kept riding up the steep uphill to prove a point but it knackered him before the end............it was a good race with them three thrashing it round ahead of everyone else.

I bet Absolon was well ficked off at losing in the last few metres....

i missed the end of the mens
i must admit though watching xc on tv is so entertaining i fell asleep

but i did notice some similarities between that course and the stuff clixbys made at cannock namely wierwolf drop is a smaller version of gill drop, you get a 90 degree turn into the drop then a chute then another 90 degree turn straight after

Was riding with my eyes closed because that drop just appeared infront of me when I wasn't expecting it lol. Had to get off!

I know which drop you mean, the cameraman was at a good vantage point for that and it looked pretty good, i saw your vid Roo on the weirwolf drop and yes as you say its much the same.
There was some good techy's on the track at dalby that i liked the look of.

I noticed the shock in your voice when you seen it, you should have gone back a few yards and nailed it there and then Si.

i think clixbys (the people who built dalby and parts of cannock) did all the last section of the dog

there lots of rock gardens on the monkey and if you dare some really nasty stuff on the black sections

Having only been there once and for my first mountain biking experience, the trails were most excellent. A few rock gardens that might pose a challenge to some people and I would deffinatly recommend pads. The climbs were pretty much all fire road and there's a small cafe half way round one of the trails(can't remember which), the old lady know how to make door step sarnys.

I think the trails are mostly red and black, but if I managed come out the other end in one piece having never done any mountain biking before, I would say anyone can.

Parking was £4 all day when I went in Feb and the visitor centre has showers at £1 for three minutes, cafe, bike shop/rental and bike wash.

(edit) I did The Beast and Dragons Back, which apparently are quite strenuous and I would agree. The people I went with do triathlons for fun and I just about kept up with them. If anyone's been there before and has been on the other trails what were they like?

Rode there many times and actually prefer the old CYB trails but they've changed and that's that.Personally i find the Beast OK but a LOT of fireroad trudging. There is a short cut that misses out a boring fireroad slog but you need someone who knows it.The dragons back is better than the beast IMO,a lot of the same stuff but less fireroad. The Tarw is short but good also.Haven't done the MBR but it's shorter than it used to be.
If you do the dragons back/beast the start catches some people out as soon as you go through the start(giant forks) there's a mini rock garden.

Probably the best thing about CYB is the variety of trails and the facilities.Trail wise i'd pick Penmachno over CYB.Pity the trailhead is not well signed and parking is limited.

I've done Tawr before ( well 3/4 of it coz Richie got heat stroke) and I've done Cyflm Coch which is a very whort one for Coed Y Brenin but it's a good one to do to get your eye in and practise on as it takes in most of the best bits like Dreamtime and Pink Heifer :D

June is still up for discussion on the Facebook page. A route around Long Mynd in Shropshire has been suggested my a couple of members which looks pretty good on the YouTube vids I've seen.
If I have car space I'm sure we could sort something out for Coed Y Brenin if you wanna go.

not to bad thank you, trying to figure out when and where to next go riding, i might be able to go tommorow afternoon or wait till tomorow night and go with my bike club

if i go in the afternoon i can go at my own pace and go to cannock
if i go in the evening i ride with the club that even phoebian would find a fast pace, but it might be good for the old fitness but there again its at hanchurch which is not that nice a place to ride

To be honest.... and seeing as i'm now a grumpy old bugger most of the time I like riding on my own, you can pick the pace and change the route if ya fancy a change.

Nice to ride occaisionaly in a group though.

And before Cheshley mentions it the group may have a spare speedlink when required

Thanks for the offer Chesley :D ,it was the thought of 3 hour drive there 3 -4 hours up hill and down dale on the bike then the 3 hour drive home :( .....but i suppose the only way to experience these exotic places 8) is to travel, can't have everything on your door step

Everything? SOMETHING would be nice!!!!! This is going to be about the limit that I will travel to anywhere but I suppose a 3 hour drive can get you pretty much anywhere unless you wanna go to Scotland. Anyoo, having a full car is always good to split the fuel costs.

Just been on Google Maps. 174 miles, 3hrs 25 mins.

Ouch!
