  • I'm done swapping forks over and am ready to roll, just got to sort drink / grub out, fuel car and sorted.

The snake is open according to the derby traffic report, but will check again in morn and go to a57 glossop to determine which way.......it's either a57 or a628.

    Be there or be square....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so I have everything pretty much ready apart from working out how to get there and looking at the route however, do you think it is wise for me to go given the weather and that the only mountain biking I've done so far is a couple of 2 hour rides along river banks (River Mersey)? Also, I sorted my SPD shoes out today (meant to do them last week but had no time) and though I am not at all used to them they do have multi cleats fitted so come away easily (it's getting them clipped that's the hard part) and the pedals have one side SPD the other side plastic flats - I'm guessing I should be ok with these?

    Thanks

    Dan

As far as your experience goes, I think you'll be fine. There are very few rocky/technical sections and if you don't fancy anything you can hike those sections. If you're not used to SDP's I'd consider going back to Flats. If you get bogged down or lose traction of uphill sections you'll be picking yourself up off the floor every five minutes and you don't want that with so many people around carrying cameras

Just been out across some grassy(.....) banks, water logged and muddy lol, washed the bike and have a nice fresh muddy t-shirt to wear tomorrow. Will be investing in some better tyres I think, theses "specialized the captain" were all over the place!! Not sure how they will cope tomorrow :)

How many are still coming tomorrow? I've waited patiently for 2 weeks for this!

The Captain were the tyres my bike came with. I've not had any real problems with them but they certainly slide a lot when the going gets muddy.

I've had a txt from Frostys, he's arrived in Sunny (?) Yorkshire and has opted for flats tomorrow. He's picking Raj up in Sheffield at 8.30 and I'm hoping to link up with him on the drive over.

Right, A57 look like it's currently open and the weather forecast doesn't show anything that might close it overnight.

I'm having an early one so I'll be logging off shortly. I'll see some of ya tomorrow and to those who can't make it for whatever reason, I'm sure there will be other opportunities.
