    Evening peeps...

Everyone is sounding up for Sunday looking like its gonna be a blinder.

Opinions should I leave the SPD's on after lest weeks performance or should I stick the flatties back on?

You lot know this patch better than me so advice would be welcome

depends if you used to spds or not, I'm going to be using flats on this trip, i rode the peaks last year in spds but couldn't help wishing i had flats on, might be a confidence thing but going down those rocky slopes in spds was scary
    what are brakes for again
  • Leave the SPD's on. I here the peaks are quite rocky so you'll ge bounced off flats.

I'm off to Greenhalgh's tomorrow for some supplies

Hmmmm choice DMR V8's with nice non slip pins and bail out option :D

OR SPD's extra pull on the upstroke (fnerrr) more comfy shoes and feeling "clipped" in NO BAIL OUT OPTION

I've just returned from the garage, chain back on and treated with friction eliminator then it gets a blob of wet lube on each link tomorrow. I've had a go at these fekkin gears and I'm starting to think that the mech's fekk'd. I'm twiddling the hi and low screws but nothing is happening, it still won't drop down onto the small chainring and I think I'll be needing those small gears on Sunday so it's off to the shop tomorrow for some professional fettling.

I've got my plastic box ready with SPD's (definately get used to them before you go throwing yourself around the Peak District Dave, but once you are you'll wonder how you lived without them), front mudguard (I don't usually have a rear but I do like to keep the mud and sheep shite out of my eyes), helmet, garden pressure sprayer to clean the bike and there will be another box with a full change of clothes. I just hope we get back to the cars before the facilities close!!!!!

There is a bike wash at the visitor centre, it's a hosepipe clipped to a tap on the back wall!!!!

  • Hmmmm if it's going to be muddy, I might have to go get another tyre, I don't know if the Cinder is a good mud tyre or not.

Ladybower Inn or Yorkshire Bridge are the closest pubs but it depends on what time we finish as I really want to be home before the boy goes to bed. I'd recommend taking a change of clothes even if you aren't going for a beer after, or some mechanic's plastic seat covers (ask at your local garage they might just give you a couple for free)

I've had good reports of the maxxis advantage being a decent mud tyre, have got a pair on, they roll very well too, they may not have chunky stumps on but they have good 'paddles' mine are 2.1's and they do a decent job of clearing mud off.

How are those small block 8's? I've seen good reviews for them but not sure what conditions they are for?
