    Wow quite busy tonight
    Just noticed a few points
1 628 woodheadpass does make it along way round to get to the meet point the a6 route towards stoney will be open as the quarry lorries do tend to keep it that way
I would expect that the snake would be open on Sundy morn though

2 the route that we've picked will be v pushy in mud through the forest up from ladybower though only for short distances and slippery as you like
Flats will allow you the advantage of wearing a decent soled shoe such as an approach shoe - remember this ride is not a race so speed in not a priority- and as such grip while pushing is an advantage

3 Tyres - been out lately around the conditions in the peaks at the moment and i'm running a Maxxis Ignitor 2.1 on the front with a similar width bontrager mud x (excellent) as a rear

4 Woodbine cafe in hope is agreat place for a brew afterwards -- though any pub is a good idea
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

Currently Running Kenda small block 8`s on my bike , if i do decide to show my face i`ll probably put my geax barro mud tyres on !! ... excellent in thick gloop

How are those small block 8's? I've seen good reviews for them but not sure what conditions they are for?

Only ran them a couple of times , as i`m not a fan of big tyres, .... rode them at cannock at christmas with all the snow and ice and was pleasently surprised :)
Designed for dryer conditions , with their tight block pattern , but seem to work ok at cannock ..
wouldnt mind a narrower pair if i could get some ....

    FINAL CONFIRMATION

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls...............

    It's on.

BBC weather says heavy snow and 29mph winds, accuweather says 50% chance of showers and 8kph winds. Personally I hope Accuweather is right, but whatever.

9.30am, upper level Ladybower Visitor's Centre car park. Burgundy Vauxhall Omega, tall bloke who is on a Spesh accompanied by a short bloke who isn't.

Those small block 8's run ok when rocky. I tend to use mine on the limestone trails in the south of France but are a handful when things get wet

    Evening Rich
Me take the lead.... all I did was ride the route up that you suggested 'cause I'd not done it before - it is agood way up the hill- to be said.

I will be happy to help out with routes etc on the day to make it all go smooth.

Re reading what you said to pick adifferent way / best track . there aren't agreat deal of choice that's much better than suggested on the original route plan though there's one of going further along the resevoir road then pulling back up to the gate near the top of the road /accesss track but I've not ridden that bit might try it tomorrow as I need to get out of the house as the missus is writing some work up for Uni.

tyre wise i will be using a maxxis ignitor 3.5 lust on the front, I've found this very grippy on trail centre type surface, not so hot in deep mud
and a maxxis minion 3.5 maxpro on the back, to be fair I've only tried it on a few rides and haven't got a opinion on it yet. saying that though the only negative thing i have to say about it is the weight. it does seem to grip well and has not slid out yet.
both tyres are tubeless, with stans solution in them
i have tried maxxis medusas (mud tyres) but found unless your in mud over a couple of inches there hopeless
i personally now go for grip over speed on a tyre, cause it enables me to enjoy the riding that bit more and that's also why i go for the larger 3.5, it just gives you more confidence

This ride has been put together as a group ride with the intention of everyone staying together and at a pace to suit the slowest rider.......

No cafes on the actual route, only a short detour to go into Hope if anyone wants to but by then I doubt anyone will be in a state to be allowed into anywhere serving food!!!!!

Let's see how we get on tomorrow before we talk about splitting up but as stated previously, the idea is to keep the group together if at all possible. I think that overall pace of the ride tomorrow will mean that the stops will be less frequent and not as long as they might be in the summer, purely because people won't want to be standing around much and risking hypothermia

Ok, so I have everything pretty much ready apart from working out how to get there and looking at the route however, do you think it is wise for me to go given the weather and that the only mountain biking I've done so far is a couple of 2 hour rides along river banks (River Mersey)? Also, I sorted my SPD shoes out today (meant to do them last week but had no time) and though I am not at all used to them they do have multi cleats fitted so come away easily (it's getting them clipped that's the hard part) and the pedals have one side SPD the other side plastic flats - I'm guessing I should be ok with these?

    Thanks

Just been out across some grassy(.....) banks, water logged and muddy lol, washed the bike and have a nice fresh muddy t-shirt to wear tomorrow. Will be investing in some better tyres I think, theses "specialized the captain" were all over the place!! Not sure how they will cope tomorrow :)

How many are still coming tomorrow? I've waited patiently for 2 weeks for this!
