This month's ride will be an afternoon and night ride at Cannock Chase.

We will be meeting at Springslade Lodge at 11.30 for a midday start, returning to Springslade Lodge at 3.30pm for cucumber sandwiches and lashings of ginger beer before strapping on the illuminations and setting out again in the region of 4.30 - 5pm-ish.

Google map showing the location of the starting point: http://g.co/maps/m5b5m Turn off Camp Road onto Slade Lane and the parking is just on your left.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are coming on the night part of the ride, please make sure that you have fully charged lights, enough to last for at least 2 hours, and a working rear light as there may be some short sections of road riding.

Please post if you have any questions.

The Slow Rides are still going strong after almost two years. We have a group ride every month and some of the guys who live close to each other meet up in between as well. There is also a Facebook group which has 98 members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/slowrid ... fitpeople/ and this is now where most of the chat takes place. I always update this thread with details of our next rides too.

We are (mostly) still not the fastest riders in the world but we have members who are fitter than others. Everyone understands the basis of the rides and those who are faster go off the front but always wait for everyone to join up further up the trail. We may be slow, but we are not unskilled. Most of us are comfortable riding Red graded trails and we have a few people who like the black stuff as well.

Everyone is welcome to join our rides, as long as you know what you are letting yourself in for. Bring something to eat as our 20+ mile rides always include a picnic :D

Locations of the next six monthly group rides have now been posted on our Facebook group. They are:

December Ride: Nothing fixed yet. I am going to wait till after Christmas, see what the weather is doing and possibly throw something together at the last minute, probably in the Peak District around Ladybower/Hope area in the week between Xmas and New Year.

    January 28th - Gisburn Forest.
February 25th - Peak District (Ladybower). Traditional ride retracing the route of the very first Slow Ride to mark the 2nd anniversary of the group.
March 31st - North York Moors (Kirkbymoorside)
    April 29th - Coed y Brenin
May 27th - Peak District including descent of Jacobs Ladder
June 24th - Forest of Dean

In addition we also have our first Slow Road Ride on April 15th which is taking place in the Peak District. I'm hoping that we will have a few of these road rides next year but I don't plan on creating a separate group dedicated to them.

Details of each ride will be posted closer to the dates including meeting locations etc. Our usual meeting time is 9.30 for a 10am start but due to the distance some people may have to travel to some of these rides, we will be starting at 11am.

Our Facebook group can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/slowrid ... fitpeople/ and each ride has its own event page. If you can't find them, post on the wall and I'll make sure you get an invite sent out.

Doesn't look like I'll have chance to get out this week so I'll leave you to arrange your own rides and start afresh in January. Don't forget that our first outing of 2012 is in the exposed setting of Gisburn Forest. I think we'll end up keeping an eye on the weather for this one as there is a good chance we'll get snowed off.

Saturday 31st March is our first outing onto the natural trails of the North Yorkshire Moors.

All I can tell you about this ride is that it will be between 20-25 miles and it starts in Kirkbymoorside. The meeting point is here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=54. ... 8&t=h&z=18.

Parking costs £5.30 for a full day, there is free parking at the roadside but I'm told that this gets taken early.

Usual arrangement of meeting at 9:30 for a 10:00am start.

Yes, I know this is the MTB rides section of the forum and I don't intend making a habit of this, but as a few of us have roadies as well, we are having our first Slow Road Ride on Sunday 15th April in the Peak District.

The planned route is 45 miles and includes (according to BikeHike.co.uk) 4500ft of climbing. The route also only has ONE option to bail and cut it short, and that comes about 70% of the way round.

Meeting at 9:30am for a 10:00am start at the roadside parking near the Yorkshire Bridge pub between Ladybower and Bamford. There will be a lunch stop in Chapel-en-le-Frith, and maybe another stop for drinks and cake in Hope.

    Starting point: http://g.co/maps/vdej5

Normal service will resume on 29th April with a trip to Coed y Brenin :)

Our next planned outing is to Coed y Brenin on Sunday 29th April but it seems there is an Enduro event happening there on that date. I have emailed the Visitor Centre to ask if trail access is affected and if it is there will have to be a last minute rethink about where we are going.

I will confirm as soon as I know what's happening.

There is but the visitor's centre tell me that there will be a rolling closure on some of the trails while the Enduro riders pass through then they will be re-opened.

Sunday 24th June will be a ride at Hanchurch near Stoke on Trent. Meeting at 9.30 for a 10am start from the car park next to the Poachers Cottage pub: http://goo.gl/maps/Pz5Q Park where the Bus Stop symbol is.

I understand that we may have a guest leader for this ride who has offered to session some technical sections and offer some skills advice if people want to do that.

Will try and get on this, meet a few fellow radar' riders..
Know the area fairly well as its only down the road and we ride there quite often. There's some nice new stuff left over from the recent xc race there, but at the same time, some of the good stuff has been trashed by the loggers.. (was there on tuesday)
