Yeah, I know it's a bit late notice but to be honest, I just plain forgot to put them on here.

Saturday 25th June will be the Slow Riders' first visit to Penmachno in North Wales. I've never been there and know nothing about the place so if you do and want to join in, be there at 9.30 for a 10am start.

For those who don't fancy driving that far I have said I would go back to Linacre Reservoirs near Chesterfield on Sunday 26th June, and show a few of the guys around that route who couldn't make it in April. There are no facilities at the car park so bring everything you need and we'll be stopping out on the trail for munchies. There is also a nice bike friendly pub on the way back to the cars so bring some beer tokens if you fancy stopping for a cheeky one at the end of the ride.

Details of both these rides are on our Facebook Pages: https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=gr ... 5274424640

Saturday 16th July is an outing to Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire.

The plan is to meet up at Dixons Hollow and do the WC course then move the cars back to the Visitor's Centre and do the full Red route. Yes, I know that the Red goes through Dixons Hollow and we could just start out from there but if we move the cars we can have tea n cake in the cafe when we finish :)

Usual plan, meet at 9.30am at Dixons Hollow car park for the ride to start at 10am.

    Change of Start location....

The plan was to ride the WC then move the cars back to the Visitor Centre to do the Red, but after speaking to others about it we will just park at the Visitor's Centre, set out on the Red then when we get to Dixons Hollow, break off to do the WC loop before continuing on with the Red route. This is because of the potential of getting muddy then having to pack up bikes and move cars before setting out again. This also means that we can still have tea n cake at the end :)

Big Question, it's an open forum with new riders welcomed, not sure of the numbers yet but typically we get anything from about 5 to 20 riders at an event.

Have a look on facebook Slow Rides for Unfit People and you can look in the events page for numbers.

You're more than welcome to join us Adam but without wanting to sound like I'm trying to put you off, how much of a noob are you? Dalby has some technical sections and is a long ride. Including the WC loop I'm expecting to put in around 27-28 miles on Saturday. Hope to see you there. When in the Visitor's Centre car park, look for a silver Renault Scenic with a towbar mounted rack and Slow Rides posters in the window.

I think there's about 10 coming this weekend. Weather forecast is for rain on Friday and light showers on Saturday so it could be a bit muddy :)

Our next outing will be the Hooooooge Peak District Ride. This route is a 45km route (or 27 miles in English) taking in a few familiar trails and quite a few new ones. I haven't worked out where on the route we will be starting from yet but the arrangement will be the same as usual, 9.30 meet for a 10am start.

This route is quite a bit longer than our recent outings so the emphasis will be on taking it steady, keeping the group together and getting everyone to the end. Bring plenty of water and munchies.

I'll be back in the next day or two to post up the starting location.

Please Note that considering how wet we got at Dalby on Saturday and how exposed the Dark Peak area is, if the weather forecast is for torrential rain then this ride WILL BE POSTPONED. PLEASE check this forum thread or the Facebook group pages in the days leading up to the ride but especially on the morning of the ride if you're joining us. I will give as much notice as possible but it could be a last minute decision if the forecast is changeable. I take no responsibility if you don't check and turn up only to find you're the only person there!!!!!

  • Hi, I wouldn't mind joining you on the "Hooooooge Peak District Ride" on the 30th.

Been riding on and off for 20 yrs, but more off than on recently and more and more on road than off road in the last 12 months ( money well spent on a MOUNTAIN bike ! ) so that should qualify me on the unfit criteria :)

Not a fan of Facebook, so ill keep an eye on here for more details and hope to make it along on the 30th

With a small amount of tinkering with the end of the published route which now gives us 3 options of how to finish, I can now confirm that our starting point for this ride will be the car park of the Yorkshire Bridge Inn.

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=53.36342%2C-1.69885&hl=en&ll=53.364267%2C-1.698868&spn=0.006709%2C0.01929&sll=53.363263%2C-1.698211&sspn=0.000839%2C0.002411&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=19&t=h&z=16

Please do not use the pub car park as this may cause issues with the Management, but looking on Google Maps there looks like there is free parking along the main road either outside the pub or further up the road towards Ladybower Reservoir. Either way, get yourself there, park where you like and ride to the pub car park in time for a PROMPT 10am start. You'll be pleased to know that to get onto the route from here there is about a mile of tarmac to get your legs working, but at the end of the route we come out pretty much exactly where we have parked.

    Questions?

Most importantly, some ID (especially as you're new to the group, in case you crash and we have to tell the air ambulance who you are ;)) something to fix a puncture at the side of the trail, pump, a spare tube, spare brake pads, a multi-tool in case anything comes loose/needs adjusting. Some people go to extremes and others travel light. You'll find people out there who have a spare rear mech hanger (not a bad idea actually) spare spokes, cables etc.

Don't think that you need to go out and buy everything at once, as long as you have the basics, you'll find that there are people in the group who don't mind you borrowing tools while you build up your own toolkit. It's when people turn up with nothing that those who are prepared get annoyed, we've had one guy on a ride last year who didn't even have tyre levers or patches when he got a flat!!!!!

There are plenty of 'what should I carry' threads on this forum and here are a few links to other websites so you get the idea:

    http://www.mtbtips.com/beginner-mountai ... in-biking/

    http://www.romp.org/rides/beginnerguide.html

    http://www.southdownshosting.co.uk/smtb ... ers-guide/

You'll see from these that there are a few core items that everyone will have with them and a few bits that some carry and some don't. Remember that next week's ride will be a long one and in addition to bike bits you'll need plenty of water/energy drink/Electrolyte drink whatever you prefer, and some food. There are usually lots of short stops on our rides when you can grab a quick munch on an energy bar, flapjack, banana or whatever, plus a stop for a trailside picnic so you'll find people bringing a few sandwiches as well. Depending on the size of your backpack, you may find that what you take is determined by what you can fit in it. Not much help I know but it's a 'how long is a piece of string' kinda question, ask a dozen riders and you'll get a dozen different answers :)

Ask if you need any more help :)
