Same here - I'm sure those who are used to the peaks will know which bits of the route are good to do. I did part of it then hit the A57 on the way back (probably the scariest bit of the day)

Managed to scan the 'Classic' route here:

i recognise the bits around ladybower, through it seems strange (if i understand the map correctly) that it takes you down rlowly farm and up hagg side. those two are usually done the other way around. it does have lockerbrook to gorse farm descent and winstone lee tor to ladybower inn descent in the route which are top descents.
i dont know much of the other stuff though as im only familiar with the ladybower side of things

I agree pal - I was walking up some very rocky terrain esp the Hagg farm bit. I thought i'd copied it incorrectly onto my OS map but maybe they got it wrong in the mag?

yeah hagg farm is a pain to push up, we did it once on a slow ride knowing what it was going to be like though. we had already been down it earlier in the ride and didnt fancy pedaling backup rowly farm, so we chose to push up

hagg farm and gores are awesome descents, hagg farm is ideal for people looking to build confidence!

i think i might mean a different descent when i say hagg farm, cause the one im thinking of isn't good for confidence, its wall to wall rocks in a large channel that winds down the hill quite steeply and pops you out opposite the exit of the beast

i get the names mixed up between the hagg farm descent and the hagg side one. someone might know which im on about

Would love to have another ride up in the peaks next Saturday but.....Tammy is working next weekend so it wouldn't be fair if I went on my own + its just a tad too far to drive there and back from here in a day and do a big ride as well. Maybe next time :(

Jacob's Ladder is quite a way from Edale village Roo and in order to come DOWN it you usually need to get over to Castleton and around the back of Mam Tor, which adds a lot of riding to any loop which goes anywhere near Ladybower.

In fact, looking at the scanned image of the Classic Route on the previous page in his Thread, you can just see Jacob's Ladder marked on the map, right on the left edge about halfway up and you would have to come into it from the West so you can see just how far out of your way you have to go in order to include it in any Ladybower based ride. Have a word with Puddlerider as he seems to know his way around that end of the map quite well. The only time I've been up Jacob's Ladder we started out at Barber Booth but I think I could also put something together which starts/ends in Castleton.

If you really want to do that end of the map I'm sure it could be arranged.....

EDIT: I've emailed PuddleRider so see what we can put together.

if there is a ride going ahead on saturday i would be interested in tagging along, never done any cycling around the peaks, afraid of getting lost :)
  • Hi guys. I shall be there Saturday - there is a low take up because of the Cannock ride the following week.

Is everyone ok to meet at Hope station at 10? I'll be getting the train there and Rich may do too. Or is Edale a better place to meet? We don't have to do the WMB route btw.

Saturday 21st August - Peak District Ride

Meeting at Hope Railway Station in time for a 10am start.

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc ... 9&t=h&z=18

Members of the Facebook group can go to the events page to see a summary of the route but expect there to be a lot of map reading and head scratching

Please note that there are unlikely to be much in the way of facilities at the meeting point so bring what you need.

Please also note that this ride will require a return to the SLOW RIDES philosophy. Mainly because I'll be there..... Please read the very first post in this thread again if you don't know what this means. Thanks.
