OK - Official thread to post interest in a group ride for forum members. (Similar to NapD's Legbreaker Ride a few months back)

Bring in Spring and get a warm-up for the early sportive season.

This is a North West-based ride (Cheshire/Derbyshire). Sorry for those that live further afield - you'll have to organise your own!

I'm proposing Sunday March 7. Route http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bi ... ring-Fling - 55 miles with a cafe stop.

Meeting place will be the Macclesfield Leisure Centre.
Priory Lane,
Macclesfield,
Cheshire,
SK10 4AF

10:00AM

Post in the thread if interested and we'll start formulating a plan!

Not sure how stupid the hills will be - but there WILL be hills. Lots to chose from around here:

    Winnats Pass
    Cat and Fiddle
    Pym's Chair
    Holme Moss
    Swiss Hill
    Mow Cop

Depends on the route and the riders!

Not too bothered about terrain. The route last time was good. Not too hard, but not too easy either.
  • Count me in.

As I mentioned in the other thread, the Hartington route is a bobby dazzler.

That route is pretty easy, but these aren't....

With not liking steep hills to start with combined with not doing much riding since the beginning of September, means I'd probably end up walking them.

    I'm in.

Nottingham is close to sheep land.

As a relative newbie, silly climbs will make me sick and force you to wait for me.

I used to be able to see Mow Cop from my bedroom window. The thought of getting up it on a bike hurts, never mind trying it!!!!!!!

Sorry - I read that as you DO like stupid hills!!!!

We had a pretty mixed group last time and everyone made it up every hill. No person left behind!!

And we won't be doing ALL those hills. Just some of the ones around here. :)

I suspect it will be something reasonably flat with a few choice hills thrown in to make it interesting. This IS an early-season training ride after all!

It's nearly two months off, and from this weekend I'll have some rollers, so perhaps I'll actually have a level of fitness.

Going back to uni, working 9-5 every day, not having a use-able trainer, hating Manchester roads, not wanting to go out in the dark, and drinking too much beer, living to close to the office to commute, and then the weather over christmas when I had two weeks free to ride my bike, all that has destroyed the little ability I had.

Just realized that there's a race on the 7th... Not actually entered yet though, so I guess i'll see how I feel closer to the date. I've been informed by many racers that the first race of the season is usually very tough and chaotic so maybe avoiding it might be a better tactic.

Anyway, the ride in September was more of a social thing. No racing up hills or anything. In fact, I believe that there were a few complete beginners there. Nobody got left behind, nor was it at an annoyingly inconsistent pace while waiting for people.

I'd be interested! It would depend on which part of Derbyshire /Cheshire with regard to travelling distance from Cumbria.

I'm a maybe - if the start/finish was a bit closer to Sheffield I'd be a probably, but driving 70miles for a ride in the Peak District seems a bit wrong to me when I live right next to it!
    More problems but still living....

  • If I'm not working or all ready doing a sportive I'd like to tag onto this one guys. I need all the miles I can get to get me up to speed for L2P in June.
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?
  • Planning from two months out, I am in. Day after good lady wife heads off for skiing so at a looe(ish) end. Hope to do a few repeats on Holme Moss over Feb half term so should be riding OK by March 7th. Might still do the 100 at Cheshire Cat at the end of the month tho.
If I can feel the pain in my arse, I mustn't be hurting my legs enough.
  • Just looked at the map - any chance of cutting off before Warslow and heading to Longnor and the hairpins up from crowdicote? Loved that last spring when I was camping up there.

keep it more over to derby way, and less m6 side. Would make it easier for me. And bring the M1 closer for a lot?
