Or... set up a standard cunning plan (as Wheezy McChubby suggests) along the lines of:

1st weekend of the month : Kent rides, beginning from Crystal Palace Park Entrance, 10am.
3rd weekend of the month : Surrey rides, beginning from Kingston gate, 10am

This would give options for those who hate trains / rail replacement services but who also don't fancy cycling 10 miles to get to the start.

+1 While I'm down with the Kent ride, I'd much prefer a Surrey one.

    What's wrong with Kent

Ex girlfriend, the entire place reminds me of her. I hate her. Other than that, logistics.

The routes LL posted only get near part of the sportive route, and given the numbers are limeted to 300 I think we should be OK.

  • Gosh, Crystal Palace is 18 miles from me! That could well work out to being a rather long day in the saddle... when were we proposing doing this again?

It is indeed, I signed up to that as a warm up to HOTA as it was meant to be this Sunday (would've been interesting!)

Date : we're talking about 28th Feb, right?

    Route :
I vote for Kent Hills route(s). Meeting at entrance to CP Park, off Anerley Hill.
    List of people attending:
    Dondaddyd
    LondonLivvy
    Bassjunkieuk
    Clever Pun

Meeting at CP is just about perfect for me, although I'd have a choice of hills to come over or around to get there so that should warm me up nicely!
Which one of the routes are we considering?

just so everyone knows we're not meeting at my gate.

Start is 8 miles from me so that's doable. However I am far from being match fit so may hold you up...

I'm in for a CP start. That's only a few miles from me and I'm always starting there with Dulwich Paragon anyway. Hopefully the snow will have gone by then!

Actually I think Richmond Park is further south of the river than Crystal Palace, in fact RP is probably officially in Surrey rather than London proper. it's just far further west...

It's not further south of the river than CP, although there's not much in it. It's officially in London though - the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames (a little unsurprisingly :P )

Richmond is Surrey I think. Over the bridge in Twickers is Middlesex.

Errr, given that Richmond is ON the river, how can it be further 'south' of the river than Crystal P alace?

And it's not in London - it has a county and a non-London postcode. That's my test, at least, of whether or not somewhere is in London.

I think the being in London test is when you have to pay the GLA tax!

Yet it is in a London Borough and its own website states that it: "is the largest Royal Park in London..."

Of course it is in London, as is RB of Kingston-u-Thames. It is part of 'Greater London' and is taxed by Boris like any other part of London.

Think the list needs to be kept sorted and tidy. Didn't spot whether anyone else had been left off inadvertently, but it seemed a bit harsh that no one had reinstated PP and the 'maybe 1-3 others', given the effort made to post from the antipodes! Anyone happy to trawl back through the last 2 pages to check before the thread deteriorates into a discussion about geography

.. oh, right ... too late
