why not get something with a 20mm front hub? they're a lot stiffer than QR.

Just get the 20mm hub version of XT and some converters for the time being.

the xt 20mm hub is alot more expensive and is center lock

so don't buy XT? you can get a used mavic or whatever rim on a pro II hub for less than £50

Aren't XT hubs looseball anyway? more hassle than they're worth at that price, IMO. Get a decent sealed bearing hub and when the stock bearings wear out, replace them with some top notch ones, just as smooth as any looseball hub and half the effort.

i agree, you're ok with buying second forks so why not buy some second hand wheels????

if i were you id buy wheels first cos then you know for definite what type of fork you can buy, ie that hope will be convertable to qr or 20mm, another might be just 20mm or qr, wheels first

hope wheels do come up fairly frequently on ebay etc, i'd say get those dropoffs or something, though you could at least buy the front wheel before or at the same time if you can afford it, the back wheel isn't as important with regards to compatability, obviously.

in my case thats different. i need them both. the cassette body is screwed up so the cassette doesn't fit propely which means if i don't get a rear wheel then i wouldn't be able to ride :(

I know you'll be wanting a new wheel, but obviously you can go for pretty much anything, the priority is getting a front wheel that is compatible with the fork you buy.

order them with either the qr adapter or the 20mm adapter its up to you. i would advise getting a bolt through 20mm fork though and i would get rid of the large ring and fit a bash guard too for ground clearance and the look better

yep, pretty much. You can buy the adaptors separate though if you change fork or frame though. Depending how much they are, it could be worth buying them as well, just in case, you know?
