  • With Halfords selling the Tacx Flux for £399 on ebay and 15% off after 10:00 today, this sounds a bit of a bargain.

Is the 15% off from eBay or Halfords?

Thanks! That would make the Flux a very tempting £349, which is £200 cheaper than the new Flux S model, and only £35 more than the Vortex...

I've ridden the Xtreme version. Bullet proof tyres and good grip in wintery conditions but tremendously slow too.

I don't like them. They seem ok to ride, but they very quickly split around the circumference between the smooth middle section and the herringbone type tread either side. Mine did it, and I've seen a few other pairs do it too. It happens way before the tyres are worn out.

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/cyclin ... ion-camera £10 with an 8GB supplied SD card and supposed 2.5 hours running time... Bit of video footage hunting suggests the sound is quite poor, but video looks ok in daytime and through a short tunnel, yet to find a clip of how it performs dusk through to dawn.

Oh, nice spot. the Chilitech 720HD models are "ok", comparible with the shimano CM1000 as far as I'm concerned.
None are available near me though - soton had one in stock..

Well, no, the website said they had one in stock - turned out that was rubbish. Still, they substituted a kitvision Escape HD5W for the same price.

Bargain - I have a good friend I race/ride with they can get 25% off any turbo trainer in the Halfords range. I had been considering the new gen mid level trainers to replace my vortex but after you posted this I am highly considering it.

Would it be a no brainer to pick the 1st gen drivo over a 2nd gen flux, direto or kickr core? Considering I’ll get the drivo for £450...

you could also get the 1st gen flux for £300!

If i was to go for this would i stil get the 10% BC discount if i did click and collect?

  • Yes - I was highly considering the first gen flux. But after the link was posted above I'm now tempted by the the extra specs of this and the deadly accurate power(my winter and race bike have p2m but my turbo bike currently relies on the vortex readings...)

10% BC should apply to click and collect, that's the way he told me to do it so we can use his discount when I collect. I cheekily asked if they could stack on his work discount, but unfortunately they changed it last month!

Personally I would say yes, that's a top rated trainer for incredible money - all things being equal.

Be prepared to take a drop in your FTP though, my DD trainer proved that my Vortex over read by around 10%.

Yeah, my thoughts were the same. I don't really need half the features it provides such as the max power/gradients. But it's not that much more than the flux, but it is much quieter, more reliable, better ride feel and super accurate power.

I am fully prepared for that - there is no way I can do 410w for 20 minutes!

But the FTP it did provide gave me good numbers to use on Sufferfest which has brought me some reasonable race results. I will definitely need to redo full frontal though, I'll probably not even be able to turn the cranks if I attempt it at the current power settings.

Agreed. Loved my Vortex but upgraded to Direto as wanted to try dd. Ftp went from just over 4.6w/kg to 4.2. Bit disheartening but you know you're training to a real power figure.
  • Just spotted that Wiggle now have Conti GP5000 listed for pre-order. Price is easily beat by other retailers on the whole. However, with the loyalty boost on just now a platinum member gets the tubeless version for £52.79 ea. Significantly cheaper than anywhere else I've seen.

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gp5000/?s=grand ... &sr=gp5000

Probably be available even cheaper somewhere if you're willing to wait til Boxing Day though...

EDIT: T&Cs say discount applies to in-stock products only. Appears to work on these tyres right up til putting them in your basket, but I didn't actually make the purchase so can't comment on how the transaction would actually go through.

I have ordered it for collect in store, so no money or info exchanged other than email and I let my friend know so he can put it aside for me.

But I've been doing a fair bit of research on the Drivo and quite disappointed to read a lot of people having issues with ERG mode - I spend about 5 hours per week doing ERG intervals on sufferfest with any extras outdoors or on Zwift, so majority of trainer time is all ERG.

DC rainmaker and Shane didn't seem to have any issues with their review models. But while researching I just happened to watch Shane's Vortex review and I was actually surprised at how good it did. I mean, I love mine, but I was expecting much better things from the Drivo and now I am in second minds about if I should buy it or not.

Obviously £450 is a bargain, but I'm not sure I can face a £1000 trainer giving me issues with what I used it most for...

Anyone have any personal experiences with Drivo/2/Direto/2 and using it for ERG training, especially shorter 20/40, 30/30 and 40/20 efforts?

I've got a Direto. ERG works very well on longer intervals, but takes a few seconds to get up to resistance, so not great for really short intervals and sprints. Drivo is supposed to be the same; Drivo 2 is much improved - but the Neo is what you want for very short intervals.
