@TimothyW has just pointed me at the back of the 1000 lumens light box and I've realised something.
The 2 LED 1000 lumens output light quotes the same battery capacity as the 3 LED 1600 Version - 6400 mah.
The 1000 Lumens unit has a 650 Lumens rating of 3 hours, and the 1600 a 640 lumen rating of 2.5 hours.

I think the 1000 lumens Is actually a better light out of the box - comparing the steady state lumens outputs
    Lumens (Hours)
              , 1000(1.5), 650(3.0), 400(5), , 150(13), 15(136),
    1600 (1.0), 1000(1.5), 640(2.5), , 240(7), , 15(128),

It's definitely not linear, and given that driving more LED's at lower amps is typically more efficient that less LED's at higher amps to get the same Lumens output, something definitely doesn't feel right. I'd much rather have the 650 for 3 hours than the extra 600 lumens I'm rarely, if ever, going to use.
I've asked Halfords for more details.

Yes - I never did quite understand how the 1LED 1Cell was 500lm, the 2LED 2Cell was 1000lm but the 3LED version was not 1500...

I find it hard to believe the 3LED version doesnt have a third cell though - why would they shape/size the case like that if it doesnt?

I wonder if they use different LEDs, given the following:

    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/sho ... -2-emitter
The XP-G2 is rated to 1.5A so output should drop off quickly above that drive current. The XM-L is rated to 3A so it can produce a lot more light if it is driven above 1.5A. The XP-G2 has a smaller die area so the resulting beam will be tighter, and, since they're pretty much putting out the same amount of light if driven below 1.5A the XP-G2 has a higher surface brightness resulting in the beam of the XP-G2 being more intense giving you more throw.
From what I gathered, the X-ML is brighter and floodier, but with less battery runtime, while XPG-2 emitter has much better runtime and throws a lot better.

To be honest, as stated my primary interest is to have a power bank that easily attaches to my handlebars and can be used for topping up the phone/garmin over the course of very long days in the saddle.

Certainly in this role it compares very favourably to something like the Edge 1030 battery pack, which is 3100 mah so quite a lot less capacity and a lot more money.

Then it has a (very) bright light thrown in to boot.

I was a little disappointed that the battery was flat when I got it out of the box - hopefully this doesn't indicate either that the battery in the unit I have is old/damaged, or that the battery discharges itself over time (as it's likely I won't be using it very regularly).

Anyhow. Halfords were happy to give me the BC 10% off, so for £25.20 the 1000 lumen unit is sounding like an even bigger bargain (vs the 1600) than I thought (with it having the same battery capabity and I can only see myself using 1600 lumens if I want to blind something/someone)

I'm happy to do some disassembly if it'll shed light on the construction and I can do so without risking warranty cover...

Cheers PP, no that will do the job nicely, £20 is still a bargain to me for what it gives me.

My current £1.99 one runs for a further 4 days, so perfect :-)

It looks bigger and more badass so they can charge more for it?
Maybe they intended on putting on a 3rd cell but it got left out to save cost.

    Anyone get this to work?
    I just go through a log in/already registered/sign in/please renew/log in loop.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Needs a different email address, I found that last year when I took up the £2 deal. Had two subs going for 2 weeks till the old one finished, still have two going now till Sunday.

If you're running out of email address to use then you'll need to contact customer support to have the account with that email deleted, I'll be doing that soon so I can reuse that email address next year when a bargain deal comes along.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Is anyone using a Eurosport Player subscription with a Fire TV at the moment?

Thinking about picking one up in the sales, although status seems ambiguous (app is available, some people say it doesn't work....)

Works fine with a chromecast, incidentally.

The app used to work for me on a Firestick, then it didn't.
No problem for me as I have an old laptop connected to the TV as a media player but as a sample of 1...

They got rid of the YouTube app a while ago due to some disagreement, might be related.

That's one of the things that really annoys me about these app-based viewers: you buy a piece of hardware partly because it will perform a particular function, and after a while that functionality gets removed. So my Fire Stick no longer supports YouTube, my TV no longer supports iPlayer or Netflix, my phone no longer does all sorts of things it used to, the list goes on...

I know why it is, but for someone who grew up with devices that carried on doing their job until they died, it's really annoying.

Yep. Amazon (Firestick) and Google (YouTube) fell out so are no longer compatible.

Casting Eurosport player or YouTube from your phone onto your TV via Chromecast works fine.

The web blurb says the 1600 comes with 3 LG batteries, and the 1000 with 2.
Doesn't mean that they are the same standard of battery of course.

To all the other Fire Stick owners, you can install firefox and watch youtube through firefox. You can even edit the playlist from your smartphone just like before.

But yes, it sucks. And the state of software and IoT is pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. I never had to deal with so much crap while running unstable linux distros on my laptop.

  • A few places selling the Ultegra 6800 version of the 4iiii mentioned above for £305 with the free HRM. Would match my groupset. Anyone use the 4iiii and can recommend?
  • I've had the 105 4iiii since April, had no issues with it at all, replaced the supplied battery (which only had #50% when it arrived IIRC) around August.

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/cyclin ... ion-camera £10 with an 8GB supplied SD card and supposed 2.5 hours running time... Bit of video footage hunting suggests the sound is quite poor, but video looks ok in daytime and through a short tunnel, yet to find a clip of how it performs dusk through to dawn.

Oh, nice spot. the Chilitech 720HD models are "ok", comparible with the shimano CM1000 as far as I'm concerned.
None are available near me though - soton had one in stock..

Could be a decent option to either source a bargain bike and convert it to hydraulic brakes, or maybe grab a frameset to build up at home.

Ooh - that's VERY tempting! I use a Garmin Fenix 3 for day to day use, but it would be nice to have something cycling specific that had decent mapping.....

To be honest, it's a mixed bag as I understand it - certainly you get a lot more, feature wise than you would with the Edge 520 (which is £150 in a lot of places) including proper mapping.

However, a lot of people find the touchscreen very frustrating to use (although there is talk of updates having improved the situation) - certainly you see the 820 up for sale second hand a lot, particularly now the 520 plus is about.

Fortunately, I already bought the Edge 520 a couple of weeks ago so it's less of a tempter for me, as buying two Garmin's in one month would just be stupid ;-)
