Your best bet is probably to wait for Black Friday. If you can, that is. Last year I got Pearl Izumi AmFibs at half price.

How do you rate the pearl izumis?

Bear in mind I don't have experience with high-end bib-tights, and my current best comparison is a set of Castelli Omloops. These are the Pearl Izumis I got..

    Pros:
    • Very toasty
    • mild spray from the front isn't an issue (the bottom isn't that well protected)
    • very nice touches: easy "WC access" in the front, plus over-overshoes to avoid the well known drip inside
    • The pad is IMHO better than, say, dhb aeron roubaix tights, but definitely worse than Progetto Air X2 in Castelli.
    Cons:
    • The sizing i or seems .. slightly big. I could have possibly gone a size smaller than usual. Not helped by...
    • ...the fit. Look at the pics on the road.cc review. Similar wraps appear on me. The material used may be toasty, but is nowhere near as stretchy as roubaix or lycra and, therefore, the fit is not going to be as good
    • The contact with the saddle is, a year after purchase, noticeably whiter than the rest.

Would I buy them again? Only if the smaller size fit me better. I believe there must be better for similar prize out there. On the other hand, I'll happily reach for them as soon as the temperatures go below 3 C.

I bought a decathlon usb light for £10.

The reason is because they can do either red or white - so they can fill in on either end so I only need to carry one spare.

Damnit. I've ordered a similar light online that can be front or rear. But that was £20....

Hadn't Heard of such a thing before.

I wonder if that's why the person I saw the other day on a nice bike, in full racing kit was riding along with a red front light...

And on the subject of Wiggle Black Friday deals, any opinions on Fuji bikes, they have several at half price.

  • Just noticed cycledivision have got Cero AR24's and AR30's back down to the old price they were selling them at previously. Which makes the AR24 a bargain for winter and the AR30 a bargain for summer..

My spare rear light is always switched on when I'm riding in the dark, so that I don't become invisible without realising if one of them fails...

    My commuter has:

    Front light
    Rear light
    2nd rear light
Fairy lights around the main triangle
Reflective tape, tyres, child seat reflector

+ 1 interchangeable spare in the bag just in case

Still get the occasional SMIDSY. Considering fitting a disco ball and a fog horn.

Genuinely I believe most smidsys are more a case of the driver seeing but misjudging the overtake/pullout - or not realising/caring what they are doing. Everyone is in a rush these days...and they have no justice system to answer to when things go wrong...

Car drivers have hit fully lit up lorries and busses. What we do is of little consequence, until the consequences are greater for the drivers. That said, do what you can.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Many thanks for this review. Been looking at these or the dhb equivalent for commuting and short runs. Have a set of chapeau winter tights. They're ok but not much use in the rain.

Clearly there's some drivers just not looking where they are going. They're very much a minority though.
The vast majority are looking where they're headed so play the odds and dress for that.

Had a car try and cross in front of me last week ... no sun to excuse the lack of sight - add that to the fact that I was in a car - during the day - it may not be a conspicuous car - but it's big enough to be easily seen - fortunately we were only going slowly - didn't get the wave of apology though - I don't mind genuine "oops" (if there's no collision!) if you get an apology ... we all make mistakes.

TBF, whenever I'm driving into a low sun (yes, driving), I switch on the lights. Not because I suspect the car behind won't see me but because, on such a high contrast situations I find it a lot easier to judge distances and approach rates if the car ahead has the lights on. Therefore, I see the lights as an aid to the car behind.
  • Wiggle / Chain Reaction are selling the Wilier GTR Team 105 Road Bike for £999.99, which is £300 less than their price for the 2018 version.

The 2019 bike has the full R7000 groupset and the same wheels as the 2018 bike, so it doesn't seem like they have cut any corners.

Sizes M, S and XS only though.

Not a bargain but nice all the same!

  • £2.50 bonus cashback at Quidco today for a purchase before 1800.

Lots of automatic 10% additional discounts on shown item price at Merlin for various brands when added to basket, including Continental; Sealskinz; Funkier.
If you have reward points, which can be used on £50+ baskets, they are some good deals to be had eg. pair of GP4000S IIs for ~£52.50.

    https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cub ... prod165625 £700
Yes, it's technically a womens bike, but the 56cm (in stock at time of posting) would fit someone like me* around 5'10" with short legs (385/591mm reach/stack, my 58cm Cube is 388/610), think of it as a black and teal Bianchi colouring.;)
Tiagra group with 405 hydraulics is a bargain for someone not fixated on a lightweight bike.
    * Perhaps with a +10mm longer stem.

I had Fujis in the last few years, I am very happy with them (top models though).
Sturdy, good control (depending on tires and wheels) and speed.
I got mine from CRC half price, they always seems to have a few models from last year knocking about.
Sizing is accurate, I am 172 cm and riding S/M.

Tthe Tacx Flux Smart Trainer is £399 at Halfords as a Black Friday Deal - https://www.halfords.com/cycling/turbo-trainers/trainers/tacx-flux-smart-trainer

Also same price at Cycle Republic.

Both retailers previously had this trainer reduced to £450, but as far as I know that's the lowest price it has been.

Would be interesting to know what the actual power bank capacity of these units is - have thought about getting such a unit for bikepacking, doubled up with reserve light/torch duty.

The slightly smaller unit is also on there for £25.10 with code - https://www.cyclerepublic.com/bikehut-f ... umens.html

This can be had cheaper with BC discount on top but don't take it for granted. Halfords official stance is that the BC discount isn't available on already discounted items but the odd store assistant might accept it if you ask before you buy.
