I did wonder that as well, we will know tomorrow if he posts the latest daily deals from there...
Yep... bikesy is clearly earning referral income from the retailers as you click through to them so good incentive for him to get more clicks through there.

Eurosport Player renewal time at then end of November so anybody seen any stupidly cheap deals like the £2 I paid last year? Currently showing at £40
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Just wait until Black Friday as there's usually a deal on annual subscriptions.
I think I've paid less than a fiver a year for the past couple of years using the deals.

Just watch it with ES as your subscription usually rolls over. They wanted £39.99 from me and I'd paid £29.99 last year.

    Roll on black Friday !

Yeah, good idea to have a second email address on standby (as the best promos are only for new customers usually) and make sure you've cancelled your existing sub otherwise it'll try and take the £30/£40 quid (I seem to recall mine being £30 when I cancelled it a couple of weeks back?)

To be fair though, now that they show the grand tours etc uninterrupted I think it's pretty decent value even at full price - I will probably renew eventually even if they don't have a deal.

Sad to report that another LBS has announced they're shutting down, this time its the shop that started our club, the previous most recent was voted 5th best independent LBS in the UK last year. Those that know me know i work in ecommerce and have done now for almost 10 years, sadly this is far from the end of the demise of the high street, i'm seeing the real impact both online and in store everyday and its not good.

I suspect what we're seeing today in retail is what happened years back with technology specifically mobile and Internet.

What a shame, i just hope its progress in the long run

£211 if you take £40 off with the code CHAMP
Still expensive, but looks like a nicer product than the GORE varients.

I prefer the normal Idro. Who needs pockets in a rain jacket ? Presumably your jersey underneath has pockets ?
    Cheaper too.
  • May not be heavily reduced but I'd call this a bargain as it's cheaper than the phillips saferide that people rave about.

Used it for the first time today in the pitch black, has a fantastic beam, just like a car headlight. The bulb sits in the top of the unit so all the light going towards the road and not into oncoming drivers/cyclists eyes.

Interesting, good spot. Looks a very forward centered beam though, not much to the sides, but marketed as stvzo compliant..
    For £40, it's definitely tempting.
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

    Personally, I would go for this: https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-l ... bike-light

Although Torchy is a great guy, I think this is better and a billy bargain.

Could you comment on the mount (of the Torchy one)?

Thinking about replacing my saferide with something else, not sure it has another wet winter in it - but I either need fairly cheap mounts so I can have it ready to go on a couple of bikes or a mount that is quick to transfer.

Was thinking about getting one of these - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/lezy ... prod175189

That Halfords light is decent value for what it is, but the point of these lights is that the beam is shaped so that you don't have a hot spot killing your night vision, and you don't blind people when you have it shining up the road.

The Halfords light does have a shaped beam to some degree - with a clever optical shaping polymer lens and also a fresnel wide angle diffuser in the central part. There is no hot spot but it doesnt have a cut-off like stvzo.

Chucking this into the mix since I've just ordered one. Seemed like a good £/lumen ratio. Anyone using one?

It's a more permanent fixing, your standard plastic mount which you then slide the light on top of to clip it in.
I'll grab a picture if you like?
Uses a allen key bolt, so slightly better than the hand twist style ones for stability IMO.

Nice to see Lezyne bringing out some Stvzo lights!

I don't know much about higher powered lights, but you can get the Ryder Orion 1500 lumens USB Front Light for £26.10 from Cycle Republic if you use the code LIGHT10

I got one last year, good power but I found it more of a general flood of light compared to what I was using previously (Moon XP300). Thus I now use both, the Moon on the right side of the bars / on the road for the more focussed beam and the Lezyne angled to the left to flood the verge and hopefully give me more warning of suicidal badgers / rabbits / deer... guess a lot depends what you're used to.
  • MARSHMALLOW20 gets you 20% off https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/EBPXRT58V ... -road-bike , making it ~£580 including delivery.

Few other good deals in the "flash" section, such as £1 for those tool bottle cases https://www.planetx.co.uk/deals.

Worth checking the tyre section too, for those able to fit 38mm tyres, https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TYSCMRCFO ... -raceguard for £13 each is a great deal, mine have been good mixed surface commuters on and off over two years and they still have loads of life left (mine were £20 each from nextdaytyres).

Looks a good spot for someone like me contemplating a switch from 2-bolt cleat/pedals to 3-bolt, as it appears to come ready for both (although part of me expects that an optional extra is needed to one of the systems). Even the EU44 size left should probably be a good fit for me, as it looks like buying a size bigger than normal is prudent. Not modern day "super light" at ~720g a pair, but that's still lighter than my 2006 Shimano sh-m121g that are now starting to show their age with some damage to the uppers!

Merlin started a new "pre stock take sale section" last night https://www.merlincycles.com/-89975/?sort=price-min , which includes these shoes, but also has the BR505 hydraulic shifter and calipers in "Euro/US" (left side operates front brake) sets further reduced from ~£130 to £100 per end... Which I can't decide if this is a great road hydraulic bargain upgrade and/or spare box item, or if there is a serious design flaw!

The rs505 does have a design flaw, although it's one that can probably be worked round with regular maintenance - viewtopic.php?t=13089841

Now that I've got proper hydraulics on the new disc bike very tempting to upgrade the other disc bike. Probably more sensible to hold out until next year though.

Right, so since CRC put the price back up on that lezyne I found, I took a punt on one of these - I haven't actually ridden it yet but have done a little comparison against my saferide 80 - it's not quite up there with it, but is pretty decent for the money.

Buying the light direct from torchy you can get it for £34 with code ukvapers and mine arrived the next day after ordering.

Thanks. Bought a pair of GP4000s II in 28mm. Only thing is the current tyres in my Boardman hybrid are 32mm, I had it in my head they were 28mm so I hope they fit.

GP4000S size up big so they will probably not be far off 32mm anyway.

IIRC, the Boardman hybrids have ~19mm internal rim width, in which case 700x28 tyres will be absolutely fine. And as Apreading already wrote, the 700x28 GP4000S IIs size up big, ~31mm.

I only received them yesterday from Merlin so yet to try them, but I've been lead to believe the 700x28 4 Seasons size up quite true, I was almost tempted to source a pair of 700x32 instead for the Cube... But that would be a very close call on clearance.

I have 25mm GP4000S on the front and 28mm GP 4 Seasons on the rear - on the same rims. There is maybe 1mm difference between the two at most.
